  1. Reviving an old thread : On the WDAY 6:00 news, it was reported that the DII commish has been getting a lot of coaches requesting that ONE game against a I-AA opponent will not count towards the SSI, especially if it is a rivalry game. The soonest a vote could be taken would be April. Edit-It is the chair of the DII championship committee.
  2. The minimum NCAA regulation size soccer field is 110 by 60 yards. Lacrosse is approximately the same (I found come conflicting dimensions). With soccer, you would also need approx. another ten years for the goals. A football field, by comparison, is 120 yards by 53.3 yards.
  3. UND 92,96 How would you classify NDSU's track facilities (sans Schlanser Track)? I don't know a lot about track, but I wouldn't say NDSU track has the greatest facilities, but yet has probably been the most dominant program in the NCC.
  4. UND 92,96 That article looks like old information. There are contracts with Cal-Poly and UMD that were signed well over a week ago. I'm guessing that the game would still be the start of a home/home, so UND would benefit with a sellout game in 2005. One that tickets could be sold for substantially more and help fund some guarantees for the good DII teams that are supposedly headed for GF.
  5. The rumor in Pittsburg, Kansas is that Rocky Hager will be taking over the Pitt State head coach spot, with Chuck Broyles moving to AD. This is from Pitt. State fans on the D2fooball.com board. Edit- Rocky Hager was reported by FOX news as being one of two finalists for the SE Oklahoma head coach.
  6. Wow, talk about being all-inclusive! Thanks for the info, RD17. Let me see if I have this correct: Let's say next year the final Northwest Region poll looks like this: 1)St. Cloud State 2)Grand Valley State 3)North Dakota 4)Saginaw Valley State 5)Nebraska Omaha 6)Central Wahington 7)Western Washington 8)Minnesota Duluth 9)Winona St 10)Augustana Then the playoff field would be SCSU, GVSU, UND, SVSU, UNO, and Winona- because Winona is in the top 10, the NSIC would get an autobid, and would therefore bump out the #6 seed If I have this right, that's seriously messed up. They should just give three autobids to each region, one for each qualifying conference. The remaining three spots would be at-large picks from the regional poll.
  7. No word on the other one. It was an attempted attack, in which the victim was able to get away.
  8. I would look into selling the movie rights.
  9. RD17, There are no autobids in DII. It is strictly the *cough* best *cough* six teams in a region that will make the playoff field. If there are six teams that meet the playoff criteria better than a NCC team, there would not be a NCC team in the playoffs. The NSIC was proof of this fact, until Winona was selected in 2001. Diggler, Forgot Mercyhurst and soon to be GLIAC member Gannon are in Penn. Geez, get a team from Jersey and it would be the Coast to Coast Region
  10. The incident that supposedly happened outside Hornbacher's in Fargo was made up.

    Clueless fans?

The only exception I have seen for a team supposedly having exceptional speed and actually displaying it was UC Davis this year. Their 6'5" 320 pound O line looked like they could have played running back if they wanted. Their D line and LB's could also cover sideline to sideline like nothing. It seemed like they had the speed of a good Miami or Florida State team.

    Clueless fans?

UND 92,96 I think the speed of the South is a myth. UND had the same, if not more, team speed than UNA. Same thing for NDSU when they played Tusculum. The southern schools have more emphasis and highlight speed more than the northern schools, but aren't any faster. It's two different systems- pass happy, speed running vs. power running, pass half the time. The defenses have adapted to the offenses- the south doesn't need the extra size to stop the power running, so they don't have it. A decent southern ILB would have a hard time playing SS in the NCC.
  13. The RMAC has one decent team. The LSC champ got spanked by GVSU, they had second stringers in at halftime. The South might be overrated, but no more than the MIAA.
  14. Diggler, I think it's just Washington to Ohio . RD17, I hate regionalization. It's a stupid knee-jerk reaction to the 1986 championship game. [sARCASM] How could the top two teams be from the same region, let alone the same conference? [/sARCASM] The West region, even with the MIAA, will be the third strongest region. Obviously, the NorthMidWestCoastToNearlyOtherCoastFrequentFlyer Region will be the strongest. Next, would be the South Region, with the likes of Carson-Newman, Catawba, UNA, Delta State, and Valdosta. The West, once dominated by perennial Semi-final loser UC-Davis, might be able to advance to the final if they face the representative from the WeDon'tHaveATeamThatFullyFundsScholarships aka the Northeast Region.
  15. Different reference points. I think the GLIAC/NCC teams are going to be pretty dominant in upcoming years. It's a shame they will have to meet before the finals, or even the semis.
  16. RD17, Won't there be one more "at-large" spot next year? Six spots per region less one spot for each of the four conferences (may not exactly work that way) equals two "at-large" spots. Currently, there was only four spots for three conferences, only allowing one "at-large" spot.
  17. I don't know, but I do know they haven't been any better than the best NCC teams . The GNAC (Central Washington's four team conference) will also be in the region. I believe that it will be called the Northwest region. The region will stretch from Washington to Ohio. They might as well thrown in two more states and call it the Coast to Coast region.
  18. The playoff field expansion and region realignment passed last year. The SSI issues haven't been addressed, but the expanded field can help ease that inadequacy somewhat.

    BCS

There was an article in the USA Today yesterday about the BCS possibly adding a fifth bowl after the current four are played in 2006. The teams would be ranked and the top two would play in the "championship" bowl. It still wouldn't be perfect, but it would be an improvement.
  20. It's the Blue Key Honor Society from each university that owns the Nickel. I doubt they are known for their keggers. What happened to the Blue Key at UND? I think that's where the confusion of NDSU owning the Nickel stems from, as only NDSU has a Blue Key anymore.
  21. Bingo! The Nickel Trophy, 2,500 times larger than a regular five-cent piece and weighing 75 pounds, was inaugurated in 1938 and is presented each fall to the winner of the North Dakota/North Dakota State football contest. Two inches thick and 22 inches in diameter, it is an exact replica of the once-minted U.S. coin. It has been the object of many intercampus raids, recoveries, and more thefts.
  22. This is really starting to get sickening- An attempted abduction in Fargo at 3 p.m. today in the Mexican Village parking lot -Two recent abduction attempts concern Fargo police
  23. Scary stuff. I live about six blocks from Northport. Keep your eyes open for yourself, and others safety..
  24. RD17, I'm pretty sure Burrell and Johnson want to be somewhere with a decent track program. There goes any chance for your pipe dream
  25. I doubt it was steroids. Most that use them (you would be suprised how prevalent they are at the college level), are knowledgable enough to be able to pass a postseason test that they know about. Is ephidrene banned by the NCAA? Something along those lines would be my guess. The USOC will ban a person if they drink too much coffee in the morning.
