  1. If UND plays to their potential, they should win. Augie is very young. I think I saw something about their 2 deep has 20 true or redshirt freshman. If UND doesn't give 100%, Augie can capitalize and walk out with a victory. I think it will come down to which team makes the fewest mistakes.
  2. ScottM and RD17, Thanks for the info. I forgot about all the *cough* non-athletic scholarships that are handed out. There was a good discussion about this on another board. star2city, Are you speculating UND and St. Thomas starting a new DI conference, or becoming travel partners in an existing DI conference?
  3. RD17, Do you think St. Thomas' facilities are okay? The BB arena looks a little small. Also, unless they drop sports, they will need over 190 scholies to be fully funded in all sports. With the cost of St. Thomas at $20-27,000 a year, that's a lot of money to be handing out.
  4. I don't think that any of the schools would currently make a good addition to the NCC. UNK would probably be the best candidate, but they don't want to increase their athletic budget. Whoever can kick their program and funding up a notch (or two) would be the ideal candidate. Winona has made progress in increasing their funding, but they still have a ways to go.
  5. Anybody hear if Newberry will even be able to make it up to Grand Forks? Ed Schultz mentioned on his show that they might not be able to make it because of the hurricane. He said he would talk about it later, but I had to get back to work .
  6. NDSU only played Minnesota State-Moorhead twice. It was a three year deal that both sides thought was benificial to cut the contract short.
  7. Found the link on ticket prices- CLICK HERE Guess the prices are a lot closer to DII than I thought. UND's $29 game might only rank second to Montana vs. Idaho.
  8. Riverman, I found out from someone that was at the game that single game tickets for the endzone area at the NDSU/Montana game were $20. There was a good thread on the angivensaturday board about ticket prices for I-AA. I'll see if I can dig it up.
  9. Riverman, I don't know how much their single game prices are, but season tickets for the Griz are $148 a seat. I think their booster section starts at about the 20. I think they sold between 17,000-19,000 season tickets. I wouldn't call it being duped. I'd call it smart business sense. If they can get a sellout, why not charge as much as they can. Granted, I think somewhere arond $20-22 would be more reasonable, if they can get $29, so be it. I have seen a lot of other schools that charge a lot more for rivalry games.

    Golden Arm

Jim, You know the official spokesman of the Prestigious Golden Arm Award is no longer allowed on this site . Only starting QB's are allowed to compete for the Prestigious Golden Arm Award. Otherwise, NDSU's Rod Malone would have walked away with the award hands down. 1 for 1, 20 yards, 1 TD. QB rating of 598 UND's game was nearly voted a scrimmage, which would have made UND ineligible for the award. The vote was 8-7.
  11. Somebody dig up that link. That would be a good one.
  12. Sicatoka, The only guess I can come up with for US is Unsportsmanlike Conduct, but that would be a 15 yarder. Maybe it happened on the 20, so half the distance to the goal would make it 10. Wait a minute, that would mean that UMC got down to the Sioux 20 yard line. Did UMC even make it past the 50?
  13. Sicatoka, The answer about the UCD/GVSU question is maybe. UNC and UCD can fund at the DI level, they have to follow DI rules, but yet UNC's volleyball team is ranked in the DII poll, and Tony stated that records will go into the DII record book. It's like they're in NeverNeverLand this year. Anyhow, other DII over I-AA victories Valdosta State over Florida Atlantic (FAU was ranked #24 in one poll, but wasn't in the top 50 in the USA Today/ESPN poll and not in the top 40 of Don Hansen's poll. They also finished 2-9 last year and had a Gridiron power index ranking in the 80's- not good) Tusculum over Elon (NDSU beat Tusculum the week before)
  14. Sicatoka, Do you know what the penalties were? 100 yards in penalties in a first game isn't terrible, especially if they were procedures or offsides. That's just first game jitters, and UND still has two more weeks before they need to have them worked out. If there was four or five holding or interference calls against UMC, it might be cause for concern.

    Golden Arm

Jim, Everybody knows the Prestigious Golden Arm Award presentation takes place on the D2football.com board. It is of national interest. btw-you forgot the second candidate for NDSU, Rod Malone. He went 1 for 1, 20 yards, 1 TD. Efficiency rating of 598
  16. petey23, Answers- Nebraska had a lot of injuries last year on D. Linebackers are the heart of the the Nebraska D, and Bohl had coached them for the past 8 years. Yes, the defense did slide, but the OFFENSE took a bigger dive over the past couple years, yet nobody was canned on that side of the ball. I think he was a bit of a scapegoat, and maybe didn't get along with Solich that well. I think if Solich hadn't dumped some coaches last year, Nebraska fans would have wanted his head ( A lot of them already did). I don't think Babich was a horrible coach, but he was insufficient in some critical areas. He did get some very good recruits to NDSU. One of his biggest downfalls was motivation. Babich-era Bison teams never seemed to have a good start. It was the second quarter or second half many times before the team would wake up. His play calling/ offensive scheme was awful. I think Stauss is a difference maker in one apsect- leadership. He has good athletic ability, and does make excellent choices. From what I've heard, the offensive system is what makes him look good and would make most decent QB's look good.
  17. That happens when you have a roster of over 100 players. Football only uses #1- #99 so there is usually some duplication. Just think what it's like to keep track of a team like Carson-Newman that has over 200 players reporting to camp. I think there might be some rule that two players that share a number cannot play the same position.
  18. Sicatoka, I've thought about getting the webcast package, but my experiences with live streaming video tells me that it isn't all it's cracked up to be
  19. tuggnutt, How does the GLIAC make it to lure a quality non-conf. opponent? Most GLIAC teams only schedule ONE non-conf. game, some don't schedule ANY. The MIAA made it easier to schedule a quality non-conf. opponent, with teams like NWMSU, Pitt. St., MoWest, Truman State, or Emporia State. Most of the teams in the MIAA scheduled two non-conf. games. The only thing the GLIAC and the western indies add are increased travel costs.
  20. UND 92,96 All I was looking for was opinion and perspective. Thanks
  21. UND92,96 Can you enlighten me on a couple questions? If UND has no desire to play a I-AA team, why did they advertise for a I-AA opponent on the AFCA website? On that same note, why did UND also advertise as a I-AA school looking for a I-AA or II opponent on the AFCA website? Why was Dale Lennon quoted this year as telling a recruit that UND would be a I-AA team during his eligibility? (I believe it was a Canadian recruit) If UND actually schedules non-conf. games with DII teams that have above .500 records, I'll believe that they are concerned about the playoffs. The strength of schedule was a criteria before, it just wasn't quantified into a point breakdown.
  22. I do have to tip my hat to UMC for having one of the toughest non-conf. schedules the last couple of years. Now, if they only could compete
  23. You can bump up everyone ranked after #10 one spot. Tuskegee got it handed to them by an unranked team, but the game wasn't final until after the voting. Expect a tumble at least as good as C. Washington's #9 to #22 drop.
  24. I think the football game should at least be scheduled for the "proposed" next four years. After that, it can be reanalyzed to see if it is still beneficial to both teams. Let's say there are 6,000 season ticket holders for UND football (just picked that number out of the sky- I would guess it is a little high, but we'll use it for the sake of example)- average price of a seat is about $13, so that generates $78,000. Now the other 7500 people will be paying $27.50 (not including ticket surcharges) =$206,250. Why would UND want to turn away a football game in which they can take in nearly $300,000- not including concession sales (which would be greater than any other games). D2 and DIAA games can be competitive. UNC vs. Montana last year was tied going into the fourth quarter, but Montana's depth proved to be too much as Montana won 31-17. UC-Davis routinely beat up on IAA's when they were D2, and I believe they were even beating Montana going into the fourth quarter a few years back. Jim and DMB, I am a quasi-UND fan. I will be going to the Sept. 20th game vs. Newberry. I also do make it to one or two hockey games a year.
  25. New article in the Herald about the UND/NDSU rivalry-Games of jeopardy NCAA classification changes makes the much-anticipated rivalries between NDSU and UND . Lennon makes absolutely no sense about the strength of schedule index, unless he is conceding that UND will have absolutely no chance of beating NDSU. He continually schedules sub -.500 d2 teams(some with zero or one wins), but a win over a IAA team is worth more than that. Here's the SSI from the NCAA site: I was a little suprised that Gene Roebuck was the only major coach with some cojones.
