  1. Looks like the Alerus Center is extending open hands to grab the checkbook from the city of Grand Forks once again. The Alerus Center is over $450k in the red for the year according to KVLY-TV, and is asking the city of Grand Forks for over $250,000 to help attract events (more subsidizing). Congratulations Grand Forks! You're well on your way to subsidizing the Alerus Center for well over one million dollars in only four short years . With the ridiculous property taxes in Grand Forks already, something has got to give. On a more positive note, the Alerus Center will be creating some space for UND football (displays, etc.) as long as $276,000 is donated for the cause.
  2. I'd say the lunch ladies are out to get UND athletics. I was taking "this year" in the context provided two sentences earlier in that link-
  3. Sicatoka, You also have to read the more recent IAC minutes-LINK

Looks like Hector Airport is already giving the 119th some land-Happy Hooligans gain some land There was a news report last week stating that Hector Airport was willing to add a substantial portion of land to the lease of the 119th if needed. From The Sicatoka's link provided above- It only makes sense for government efficiency to move the 119th to Grand Forks and move the 188th to Fargo.
  5. Where does UND recieve any money from concessions? There might be a small amount of trickle-down money from REA for the ticket guarantee/advertising aspect of the contract, but the Alerus doesn't share any concession revenue with UND. Hyslop's concession revenue went to dining services.
  6. NDSU has won two DII national championships(wrestling 2001, women's track 2002) and had several runner-ups since UND won their last championship(football, 2001). Matter of fact, NDSU has the same number of DII championships in the last four years (4) as UND has since the inception of DII. If that's RT's thinking, it's severely flawed
  7. The UND -Delta State game should be an interesting matchup. Delta State was an option team when NDSU faced them in 2000. Now, it seems they have taken to the air. I remember they had a rather unorthodox defense with DT's or DE's that were in the 200 lb. range.
  8. dakotaboy, Read the link I provided above. It's the full article about DSU, parts of which you quoted. Here's an important excerpt: The AD and football coach are currently only interim employees. What better way to impress the administration than to state boldy, "I'm a big thinker, and won't stay status quo if we can do better."

WDAY reported tonight that if the 119th "blends" with the GFAFB, GF's ANG unit (188th?) would have to be relocated due to lack of population for recruiting. Fargo, with the state's largest recruiting base and no ANG unit, of course, would be the leading candidate for the 188th relocation. Government at it's finest
  10. Answer-The GLVC UMR to leave MIAA for Great Lakes Valley Conference following 2004-05 season:
  11. DSU announcement was more of a chest puffing manuever by an interim AD than anything else- LINK I can possibly see Mary moving to DII, DSU would need some MAJOR improvements and fundraising before they could afford it. Unless, of course, the expenses of DII are reduced.
  12. They subscribe to the Herald, but I don't believe they actually read it . This info came directly from someone associated with UND hockey, past or present, not the Herald or any of it's staff.
  13. Take this for what you will (worth the price of the paper it's printed on ): I was talking to the inlaws this weekend, and they said Hakstol was offered the job on Tuesday or Wednesday. They chit-chat with people associated with UND hockey, both past and present, and have nothing to gain(especially in casual conversation with a Bison fan) about disclosing this.
  14. Minnesota played UND in 1973 and 1974. The meeting prior to that was in 1927. Here's the info on the series-LINK
  15. Corella, Filling a full DI schedule can be done. It's a lot of work for a coach and AD, but witness NDSU's women's volleyball counting for the RPI this year.
  16. He would have simply stated DI (or D1 in 1234 speak) if he was talking about the other 15 sports.

I thought UND ran a tunnel, a.k.a. flanker, a.k.a. jailbreak, a.k.a. fold screen, not a bubble screen.
  18. The move to DI by NDSU was preceeded by Chapman's RI plan. With over $100 million in research funding and engineering programs winning national competitions, I'd say the athletic department is catching up to the academic department with a move to DI.
  19. Thanks star2city. The only site I found the Alerus/UND contract details was on the UND-fraud site, so it was taken with a hefty grain of salt .
  20. As seen on the KVLY news this evening, the Alerus Center and UND are in negotiations so UND can get a better price for using the Alerus. This brings up a few questions- 1) How much is UND currently paying for using the Alerus? 2) How many free tickets does UND give away? (From UND's official finances-LINK in 2002 football revenue was $338,000. Dividing by the 56,930 people that attended UND football games in 2002-LINK that averages out to be $5.94 a seat. That seems very low, especially with less than 3,000 season ticket holders ) 3) If the Alerus lowers it's revenue from UND football, will GF residents be willing to soak up the red ink? Property taxes are already ludicrous in Grand Forks, and the Alerus is creeping up on the $1M deficit number. Would a parking fee help out?
  21. Prior to the 2000 census, the government would use the enrollment numbers provided by the schools. In the 2000 census, they do have a "group housing" category that has a college/university division. If anyone has some patience, here's the official site-LINK It's more fun to find something than the NCAA site.
  22. I'd file this under the "smack talk that turned into a rumor" file. Digger's the feature LB in a defense that revolves around him. Wasn't it his dream to play for UND since he was rummaging around in trash containers?
  23. I saw a 24 hr. Fitness Center in California that had an escalator outside to the front door.
