  1. And what is this "impossible standard" to which you refer?
  2. Ok, I'll bite being my name was mentioned. First of all, Hak took over UND not Wisconsin. The program he took over had been winning National Championships at the rate of about 1 every 5 years for the last two coaches. We were the Boston College of that era. Where the cheese heads have Badger football and the Packers, UND Hockey is the only game in town on the national stage. I think we need to define what our expectations are (and I think they are different than the Badgers). I see a collective lowering of expectations here - being there is good enough, it's somehow harder, ect. My expectations for this program are some National Championships. I am not saying fire Hak, but I am saying that I am getting frustrated with our lack a championship. A better question might be what BC expects after York retires. Will they be happy with being close but no cigar? In my mind, the expectation that the Sioux Hockey team should win some championships is not unreasonable. Dredging up all of the other programs that haven't gotten it done lately (Red) does not make me happier with our lack of success.
  3. York did ok in Tampa, Detroit, Denver, and Albany.
  4. Unlike some teams, we don't hang banners for those. We all know what big games we are talking about - What's his frozen 4 record? 1-5? Again - not saying fire Hak, just wish he could get us over the hump. I hate the idea that collectively Sioux fans may be deciding that just being there is good enough.
  5. Now you're just being idiotic - no one said anything remotely like that.
  6. Let's not be so smug until we win a Natty.
  7. Back on topic - A lesson we saw reinforced today - never go into a prevent or defensive shell - It never seems to end well for us. Keep doing what got you the lead in the first place.
  8. There is parity in hockey just like there was parity from 78-00 only it was us not BC that seperated ourselves.
  9. And not named North Dakota
  10. Just using your question to make what point? Everyone knows the answer to this - York is golden - he has BC doing what we used to do. Was there any fire Blais talk? TDon has been on the hot seat in Minneapolis even after two Nattys - its been in all of the papers. Another failure would add fuel to the fire.
  11. I would hope we all live in the world where we expect some championships from UND - not entitled, but earned by the best team in college hockey. Anything less is a lowering of expectations. I see a lot of that around here lately. Pretty good is getting to be good enough.
  12. By the way, what did we make of the favorable opportunity of having a regional at the Ralph and having Holy Cross upset the Gophs in the first round?
  13. Sorry, but I can't make any sense of the idea that championships come in bunches other than thinking that these programs had great talent during these times. We've had great talent but no championships lately (see Toews, Oshie, Duncan, Parise, etc). What are you saying that that makes me believe that we will win a bunch soon?
  14. Don't disagree, but that has zero to do with them kicking our butts in the Frozen 4 year after year
  15. So how did the Gophers and Denver do it back to back and BC ..... well you know.
  16. I didn't cherry pick the coaches - this represents UND's record from 1978 to Hak. Not unrealistic at all - just the records of his two immediate predecessors. By the way - Gino = 3 - count em 3 Nattys
  17. Oh, I forgot - it's almost impossible to win a Natty in this day and age.
  18. In my mind this is a much more pertinent comparison: Gino Gasparini - 392-248-25 - 16 years 3 National Championships Dean Blais - 262-115-34 - 10 years 2 National Championships Hak took over a team that went 30-8-3 the previous year
  19. Agreed - If we added in a respectible power play we might be hard to beat.
  20. In my opinion the first thing we need is for a goalie to cowboy up and have a shut-down tournament. We have entered the tourney with some good goalies with great stats, but none has been "the guy" in the tournament. The ratio of a goalie stealing one from us in the tournament vs UND's goalie stealing one from someone else is pathetic. Next, I beleive we have to have a flexible game plan. It's well and good to have the "we'll only play our tradtional way" philosophly when we play Mankato, but when it's BC, a little flexibility would be nice. A couple of our losses appeared to be because the other team anticipated what we would do and frustrated us. Finally, a little luck, although we would still need to capitolize on it. I thought we had all the luck we needed last year when Yale beat Minnesota, but it was Yale and not us that took advantage of it.
  21. Hmmm - several possibilities - those of us who hate the dump and chase as a constant philosophy are wrong, or - in some years (Toews, Oshie, Duncan, Boshinski, Parise) we had so much talent we would have scored under any system - who knows, maybe we would have scored a lot more goals then with a more open system, or the dump and chase isn't suited for every team and skill set we have - works great with some, not as great with others, or the dump and chase system is becoming more rigid as time goes by - how long did it take us to carry in the puck during power plays - the first time we did it against Miami we scored. Since we don't have two sets of data - one where we dump and chase and one where we don't, its hard to know what this means.
  22. So ...... You're saying we just aren't lucky enough?
  23. So our lack of success is due to the 16 team regional? BS again. It didn't seem to be too hard for Minnesota twice, Denver twice, Wisconsin, Minnesota Duluth, or BC. Roughly the same amount of teams and one wins the championship. Tired of excuses as to why we didn't get it done. I'm not blaming the tourney format when we had Oshie, Toews, and Ducnan and still couldn't win. I might add that the 16 team tournament could be our friend this year.
  24. Are you saying that those years that BC handed us our asses in the Frozen Four is because they didn't have to travel as far for their regionals? I call BS on this. BC may have had an easier time getting to the FF, but once there they kicked our butts. I recall a regional here in the Ralph where we flamed out at the FF.
  25. I call Bull**** - most don't want him fired, they just want him to loosen up the "system" and win one finally
