why's that HockeyMOM?

Discussion.....of the former logo used by this website. That's what we are discussing.

I'm just starting the discussions and giving you information you may not know (or want to know), its up to you whether or not you want to believe it.

Dr. Evil, never heard that one before. Did he tell the truth too? Maybe he told people what they didn't want to hear.

I asked it to start discussion on it. If its not offensive, why was it removed. If it was offensive, then what was offensive about it. Actually, I was hoping one of the moderators who stay up and read all of these threads could answer this, because they are the only ones who can answer this.

Does anone know what happened to the "chief" that this website had in the top left corner? Hmmm.....

Don't worry, we'll be there to "back" your president, I have a few trump cards that haven't been presented yet, just waiting for the right time. But that time is coming.

Dakota student articles So after a really long 2 week discussion, the name was changed from Flickertails and the unofficial name "Nodaks" to Sioux. With no mention of Honor. more to come.... I heard directly from the horse's mouth (actually, not a horse, but one of the VP's of the University, unofficially of course) that they are talking about acquiring 500,000,000 from the Engelstad's, but that's unoffical, of course. He sounded pretty serious about it, though.

I am STILL here is because my better half is still going to school and I also spent so much damn money here that I need to at least get a diploma out of the deal. If those two reasons didn't exist, trust me, I'd be as far away from this Mosquito infested/potato smelling/frozen 80% of the time/Homogeneous place as I could get. Many of the instructors here are great instructors, but I'm willing to bet other Institutions have excellent instructors as well.

Why not? This university is a good university. Not a great University. That will only happen when they do away w/ this controversial nickname/logo. When that happens, then they can grow exponentially. Did you know that in all Tribal college magazines UND makes absolutely no mention of the FIGHTING SIOUX nickname/mascot? I wonder why that is? Is It to lure natives in that don't know what's going on up here (like me), or do they do it so that natives actually consider coming here? Besides, if I'm not welcome here in ND, I wish people would come up to me face to face and tell me. Most of the people on this campus that I know are for change, but unfortunately we don't make those decisions, they are left up to RAAALLPH and the SBHE, and now the NCAA. Is there a reason I shouldn't be here? I've spoken to many many students on this issue, in a very positive way. I've broken many stereotypes here on campus, like: -Natives go to school here for free (which they don't) -the Sioux gave UND the use to this name (which they didn't) -All Natives get free money when they turn 18 (which they don't, some do, but not all) -UND is honoring the Sioux (there is no on answer to this, but show me how they are "honoring" the Sioux, and I will tell you the truth behind that.)

If it doesn't, then why did they do away with the little black sambo? or the fact that when Abercrombie came out w/ that caricature of Asians on their t-shirts they had to quit selling them? If the entire SIOUX nation is asking you to not use their name or a logo that is affiliated w/ their name, then who are you to complain? If it isn't offensive, show me other ethnic groups that are used (and not vikings/leprechauns/animals). Yeah. Think about it. If this school was the home of the Fighting Jews, you think the Jewish community would embrace it? Yeah, I'm sure they would be all for H-Jew-O, Jew-veniers, Jew-Dogs..... And its not just the Sioux Nation that has asked. the National Congress of American Indians has also asked for the retirement of the name, and that organization is compromised of tribal leaders of ALL of the federally recognized tribes. hetche to.
