  1. You are so ignorant, maybe after Feb 1st Indians won't be allowed on campus, is that what you'd like next? If there are other Indians who don't have the same views as me, that's fine, but where are they?
  2. The Irish, that school was founded by the Irish. I've never heard of the Vandals as a cultural entity. The Quakers are a religious group, not a people. The Aztecs are a Native American group, central American, but one none the less. What's your point?
  3. There's a difference in appropriating money to the largest Minority group on campus and kissing the a$$ of the alumni. You should know this with a name like Sicatoka, but the True Sioux don't sell out. There is hundreds of millions in trust that prove this point.
  4. LOL.....we have been talking.....and talking.....and talking.....and talking, and you know what? Everything I tell people just goes in one ear and out the other. We are discussing the same issues that we went over before. It gets tiring. The bottom line is my opinion about the name is the name of all but 1 Sioux tribe, and that is that UND needs to find a new name. I have heard many viewpoints, and I have not heard one that is solid yet. But I'm waiting, and listening, for any "good" reasons to keep the name.
  5. So know you know all about the Sioux, huh? Did you learn this by drinking H-SIOUX-O and eating SIOUX Dogs? Or did you learning by taking Indian Studies classes offered by Non-Indians, or did you learn it by hanging out at American Indian Student Services? I don't remember seeing you there, but then again, I don't see many Non-Indians there. And you know what? There are millions who don't care about the Sioux, and I don't expect them to. Just like the Norwegians, I could care less about them, too, but because of the Vikings I learned so much about their culture living in this part of the country. Again, please tell me how you were "exposed" to the Sioux. And don't tell me that seeing a drum group and a couple dancers constitute knowing and understanding my culture, because that is very far from the truth.
  6. Those "elders" you talk of, they did not officially give the name to this university. And if you truly believe that a handful of Ikce Oyate, or Common people, can go somewhere and represent the entire Sioux nation without its approval, and that case would actually be legitimate, then you need to become more educated on how governments and societies operate. As for dogging on other NA's, If they want to come talk to me, I'm at NAPS all the time, just come ask for me. Oh wait, he/she didn't claim to be Indian, just that he/she had some Cherokee blood, there's a big difference. I am enrolled, and I am against the name. hetche to yelo.
  7. Because if he/she did, he/she would understand the hurdles that the Native Americans face every day and he/she would understand why we are going to get the name changed.
  8. Negative, I didn't change my name, nor do I plan on it, just a little FYI. You know, believe it or not, there are more people out there than just me that would like to see this name changed. As for me. Yes, I am a UND student. Yes, I am Lakota. Yes, I am a veteran. Yes, I am one of the few who can actually claim to be SIOUX on this campus. And yes, I am the owner of www.siouxcrew.com.....just give me a couple weeks, I'll have it up and running!!! I hope you all can come and see my awesome website dedicated to all of the wonderful "FS" fans that eat SIOUX DOGS and drink H-SIOUX-O, then belittle the ones who are the rightful owners of the name. Hetche to yelo. I would be willing to sell this website to someone though, say for $100,000,000.00?? LOLOLOL
  9. One must take that first step. Thanks NCAA for taking that first step!!! Someday, you people will have to treat the Natives of this continent with respect, respect that your forefathers didn't give my ancestors. You can call it HONOR, but I have copies of resolutions from all but ONE federally recognized Sioux Tribes calling for an end of the use of the name fighting sioux by this Institution. Its not what YOU think, it what and entire Sioux NATION thinks!! Hetche to yelo!!
  10. ! That sums it up, EXACTLY!!! You are NOT SIOUX, and not only that, but you don't even practice your INDIAN WAYS.........I AM a member of the L/D/N Nation and I do practice my Lakota ways, and I am DAMN proud of what the NCAA did, but honestly I didn't think it was enough, but its a good start!!! Lila waste'!! Hetche to yelo!!!!!
  11. Thats who I am, I'm Native, there's no denying it. I can't blend into the crowd, especially here on campus. I am Lakota. I don't tell people what I am, but if they bring it up, I will tell them. I'm proud of my Lakota, sica, not like some other Indians I met that are ashamed to be who they are, including my daughter who wants nothng to with with her heritage. Of the over 400 so call "Native" students on campus, how many actually interact with the Indian community on campus? less than 1/2, and that's not b.s. But, when you are the only Native in a room of 300, primarily Caucasian, people, its hard not to differentiate yourself by anything other than skin color. And I'm proud of who I am, are you?
  12. Its a Sioux thing, you wouldn't understand. If you can be bought, then I can't explain values to you, sorry. I'm not bitching, I'm only conveying the message that a majority of the Sioux Tribes have, and that is "UND, change your Logo/nickname."
  13. Wow, people, before you waste my time, do your research. 1. This University does not contribute to the INMED, RAIN, INPSYD, or similar programs. Rather, these programs PAY the University to be here on campus. We are currently working on having these programs transferred to other universities throughout the region if UND does not change the name, so be on the lookout for that. There are only 2 Indian programs on campus that are paid for by this state the other 28 have to pay to be on this campus. 2. Land? What kind of land did you lose? What kind of treaties were written with your people that were broken? Can you shoot me a copy of them? Thanks! 3. Stipends? Free Money? Where? I don't get squat for being here. I don't go to school for free, I don't park for free, I don't get free supplies or computers, and I don't eat for free. Come to think of it, I don't know of any natives who get these "free" priviledges. 4. If this is what you consider honor, then I don't want it. This is like bonking some hottie over the head, taking her home, and telling her that you are going to honor her by marrying her. Do you think she considers it an honor? Maybe you consider this honor, but I don't. hetche to
  14. Why do you insist thinking the people that came up here in the late 60's are the "say all" of the entire Sioux Nation? They weren't a part of the Tribal Government, nor did they hold any power to do what they did. This would be like you going over seas and making some pact for North Dakota without the consent of North Dakota. If that is your only reason as to why the name should be changed, I suggested you try harder, because that holds no water. Please don't talk to me about agreements...if the majority in this country held to their agreements, well, you probably wouldn't be here now, because this would still be Indian Land. Yes, you are not an expert in Sioux culture, so don't give your opinion because you don't know anything. I could teach you, but that would require me teaching you about Lakota values, and quite frankly, UND is NOT the place to talk about values, because the mighty dollar can overstep anything here. Not in Sioux Country, look at the money we STILL didn't accept for the Black Hills, I guess our values cannot be bought. Hetche to
  15. Wow, that just might work, going to SCSU. At least there I don't have to worry about people that are honoring me not wanting me there....lol, have you heard yourself lately? "We're honoring you, and if you don't like it, LEAVE"......lolol,..you are right about SCSU though, I recently got a letter from their president thanking me for keeping up the fight. At least their President has a spine.
  16. It is obvious you haven't heard anything I said since I signed up in this homo..geneous site. I think this school is a good school. Unfortunately its plagued with this name that it not theirs in the first place. Is that the solution then? Just go away? Wow, why didn't I think of that! Maybe we should have told the British that during the formation of this country. Maybe during the Civil war we should have told the blacks "if you don't like it, why don't you....well, that wouldn't have worked because they were slaves....", but you know, throughout history, there have been many wrongs that at the time didn't seem wrong. Geez, what's wrong with slaves? What's wrong with women not being able to vote? Why do those Indians think they have to be citizens of this country? All of these attitudes were felt by the majority of the YT's in this country back in the day, and after seeing the old KKK fart that just got sentenced on the news, I see that some people still feel that way about people with different skin color. Again, who cares about Sioux Falls, they aren't making a mockery of our name. Besides, there are a heck of a lot more Lakota/Dakota in Sioux Falls than at UND. Geez, I wonder why. And.....again, I do not go to school here for free....just another stereotype the majority have against the minority.
  17. Lolololol, Wow, the ignorance, I think it is absolutely crazy how you all think. we are discussing the Sioux Name here on campus, right? Why are you making reference to all of the names of the town and states? I've given you the facts, and those facts state that a majority of the Sioux Tribes have passed resolutions against the use of the name here, plain and simple. I could care less about a 1/8th hockey player (if he was trying to get into my tribe, he wouldn't qualify w/ that quantum) who likes the name or the use of Dakota in the states here, I am simply addressing the issues here on campus. If its such an honor, why is there no mascot? If its such an honor, why doesn't this University "brag" up the FS crap in the tribal college magazines it advertises in? If its such an honor, why did RR change their name? and Stanford? And all of the other 100's of schools across the country? By the way, if you'd like to discuss this, I'm usually at AISS, (American Indian Student Services for those Sioux that aren't really Sioux), come on by and chat. I don't drink, nor do I give money to Engelstad, so unfortunately I can't meet you at the games, maybe next fall you can come and visit us protesting outside, I'd love to talk to you about these issues. Hetche to yelo
