  1. read your policy handbook. I'm just rephrasing what it says. Don't get off track here, people in here tend to take one little tidbit of what I comment on and twist it to make me out the bad guy. Just look at the facts. The Sioux Nation has asked for the retirement of this name. Plain and simple.
  2. So now Indians are being compared to cartoons? I know you are trying to be funny, but this isn't funny. Typical ignorance on your part. Call us whiners. But this is one battle that will come to a head soon enough. And by the way, only Papa Smurf had the red hat.
  3. Saying and doing are totally different animals. Walk your talk. If you truly were honoring the Sioux, you would respect the wishes of the SIOUX NATION. Oh, honor, but not that far, right?
  4. Man Kupcake is spineless........ For being the PRESIDENT, he doesn't know S#$^ about the history of this name. Listening to the comments made by him has caused many to lose even more respect for him. Before he speaks again, he should really do his research. This name was started in the 30's not 20's, and he forgot to mention the countless amount of other Sioux Tribes that have asked UND to quit using the FS name. What a coward. He will personally hear it from me.
  5. I like the Sons of Norway myself. Instead of painting the face of a Sioux on the Goalie mask, we could just make it see-thru so you can see the "chances are very very good that he's not a minority" goalie underneath. How about the Fighting Ralph's? Then we could all dress up like back-up goalies with swastika t-shirts on underneath our hockey jerseys!! Or we can keep it more local. Something to do w/ the Sugar Beets.....or Potatoes....or the Mosquitoes..... I know those don't convey the Strength and Courage and Fortitude of my people, but at least we would be keeping it real. (Its a joke. ha ha.)
  6. LOLOLOL This is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time!! Most won't get it, but some will.
  7. It sounds like this is the attitude of the people on this chat board. If the name goes, then the Sioux should go to, right? This campus needs people like me to remind them of why this name needs to be changed. If not, then you'll have people like Cupcake Misinforming the world about what is actually going on up here. He made it sound like 1/2 of Sioux country was for the name, when in fact there is only one tribe that is neutral on the issue. He forgot to mention all of the other Sioux tribes that are against this. For being the president of this Institution, he sure didin't know any history regarding the use of the name.
  8. Why should I come to the Law school? Chances are I've never seen you at ANY other Indian functions on campus, why is that? Did you ask Darlene who I was? Ironically, I'm one of the "only" Native students on this campus that is an active member of this community. Regardless of how you feel, a majority of the SIOUX tribes have passed resolutions calling for an end to the use of the FS name, and I too have spoken to many many tribal leaders. I also grew up around Indians. I can empathize with the conditions on the reservations because that is where I came from. There are some Indians who grew this way and other who don't even have a clue as to what I'm talking about. I wonder which you are? Maybe I will come visit you. I hope you are there today.
  9. Just drop the "Sioux" part. I'd be happy w/ that to. Hell, I'd even be willing to relocate, not go to school here, and even inform other Natives to stay away from this campus if you removed the Sioux part of the name.
  10. Compromise. How about this. I propose that since this University is the Fighting Sioux, that EVERY ENROLLED MEMBER OF THE SIOUX NATION, US AND CANADA, THAT IS ELIGIBLE, IS ENTITLED TO A FREE EDUCATION AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA, AT ALL LEVELS OF EDUCATION. ALSO, EVERY BUILDING ON CAMPUS WILL BE RE-NAMED THAT OF A L/D/N/ CHIEF OR MEMBER OF HISTORICAL IMPORTANCE. That would be my compromise. That would be something I would agree on. I would be for that. See? I'm a compromising person.
  11. Who the F#^# do you think that logo looks like? A Nazi? A Viking?? I think we can safely say that it is suppose to look like a Native American off of the cover of a romance novel. Regardless of the name, the SIOUX Nation (all but one tribe) has asked this University to end the use of this name, isn't that enough? If you want to know what a Sioux is, look it up in an encyclopedia, I'm sure you won't find a picture of a drunk college student in a green wig. I'd be willing to bet you'd find information on the Oceti Sakowin. Hetche to yelo.
  12. Why doesn't it align? Spirit Lake is the only Sioux tribe that has not passed a resolution calling for the end of the use of the logo/nickname. Kupcake forgot to mention the entire SIOUX Nation of SD has passed resolutions, as well as other non-Sioux tribes, against the name. I've always said one tribe, go ahead and look at my past posts. And Mr. Sica, before you accuse me of something, do your homework. hetche to yelo.
  13. Me too, I didn't get a waiver. I wish someone paid for my college to, unfortunately, my mommy and daddy can't pay for my education, so I have to pay for this education myself. There are more scholarships given to athletes than to natives. And besides, out of all of the tuition waivers out there, less than 1/2 go to natives, more go to "other" minorities and people of need. Know the facts before you whine. Hetche to yelo.
