Weekly odds that the game is broadcast nationally.
82SiouxGuy replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
If you read what I said, I said let them know about the problems so they can fix them. But the overreaction is amazing. This is a new project, for a new team. They aren't going to be at any where close to their best right out of the box. All reports are that the Midco broadcasts are as good as last year or better. It is the transmission to other forms, either to Fox College Sports or to the webcasts where the problems seem to be coming up. It is hard for Midco to know about some of these problems until they actually do a game or 2. When they find out that there are problems, then they have to figure out how to fix them. My guess is that most of the bugs will be worked out in the next couple of broadcasts. But go ahead and overreact all you want. The complaints about games not being on FCS next year are a totally different story. That is because of the new league, and there are many factors that have gone into those decisions. And as I have repeated many times the last couple of months, the current TV structure is not complete and is not carved in stone. There will be additions that will improve coverage for some people. We don't know all of them that will happen, and I don't have any clue whether any of them will help you. But you can be sure that what is on paper right now is not the sum total of what will be available by the beginning of next season. -

This is a new production team, and that was known to UND before the contract was signed. This is a large expansion for Midco to give sports in the Northern Red River Valley a lot more coverage, focusing on UND. Midco put HD in the contract starting in 2014, they are going to try and get it set up by fall of 2013. I believe that they are using the same video equipment for games as was used last year. These were 2 EXHIBITION GAMES for an entirely new team and new relationships between Midco and Fox College Sports. Don't forget, not all hockey games were shown on Direct TV in past years, some of the games were skipped when they had other programing to fill the time. UND and Midco seem to be working to fix the problems. Southpaw is right, everyone needs to settle down. Let them know about problems so they can fix them, but several people are way over the top on this. -
Soooooo time to move on..... NAU game this week

So far UND has done well with players on academic teams. I don't know about any of the other Big Sky teams. -
Interesting comment from someone willing to trash an entire athletic department to keep a sports nickname.

POLL: Should UND-NDSU Resume the Football Series?
82SiouxGuy replied to ShilohSioux's topic in Football
It is a long story. The short version is that NDSU moved up to Division I several years before UND. They wanted to continue the series during the transition. Playing a Division I team would have counted against UND trying to get into the Division II playoffs, so UND stopped the series. UND was interested in playing again once they started the transition, and still are now that UND is a full FCS member, but NDSU refuses to consider it because the AD is still mad that UND stopped the series. Many NDSU fans are still upset because they believe that UND cancelled just to create problems for NDSU during the transition. -

And then you called people morons because they believe NAU is a good team. -

Just because a team hasn't been good for a while doesn't mean that they can't be good in an individual year. Talk about conceited morons. Try growing up and not being an internet troll. -
How much new gear I buy will depend on how much I like the new name. But I will probably buy something pretty much right away.
-
Other reasons that UND beats NDSU are when NDSU overlooks UND, that UND considers it their Super Bowl while NDSU doesn't care about the game, UND gets lucky, and if it happens in a meaningless sport.

Wikipedia says 10,000. I wonder if they are able to add seating for special events? I know they did some renovations a few years ago, including putting in new turf.

He asked a question, I answered it. As to your questions, I do like rainbows and lollipops, don't know any unicorns, and never heard about a name pr payroll, whatever that is. But doesn't just about everyone like rainbows and lollipops?

I agree with you about the NCAA, although I don't know if there is actually anything they could do about it. But it is probably best not to poke that bear. I have quite a bit of Sioux stuff and will probably continue to wear it. I don't have much plain UND stuff. I will wear it and will probably buy more. When a new nickname is chosen I will buy new stuff and wear that. Slowly I will wear the new stuff more and more, especially to games. I support UND no matter what the nickname is.
-
That question would have to go to a compliance officer. There are rules against providing things to athletes that aren't available to normal students. I don't know if selling something would break that rule or not.
-
Why, because I know that the NCAA is very serious about giving ANYTHING to athletes? That is how schools and athletes get into trouble, by starting with small things.
-
And again you are making long term projections based on short term results. Only idiots would base an opinion on the long term strength of a conference on the scores of 2 football games in a single year. NDSU fans think they got jobbed at EWU and they are holding on to a grudge, something they do very well.
-
Yes, this would be against NCAA rules. This is from the UND Information to Boosters.

I believe the cut off is 30% of the season, and can't play at all in the second half of the season. I think he played in at least 4 games, which would probably make him ineligible for the medical redshirt. -
Basing an opinion about an entire conference on 2 individual football games in a single year shows a real lack of objectivity and a lack of credibility. It is another example of NDSU fans holding a grudge. The attitude isn't based on reality, it is based on the hurt feelings of a group of individuals that can't get over perceived slights their favorite school received almost a decade ago. It is yet another reason to take the opinions of NDSU fans with a grain of salt on many things.

It is possible that Midco is using a different method or different satellite to transfer the signal to Fox College Sports and losing something in that transfer. That would explain why Fox viewers might have had a different experience than Midco viewers. If Fox has made any other transmission changes, that might also explain things.

There are definitely problems with the defense. But I'm not sure if anyone knows for sure what is the root cause of the problem. Key players were lost at several positions. Some of the returning players haven't performed to the same level as before. A lot of times the players have been in the right position, but haven't made the tackle. That means the coaches probably had the players in the right position but the player didn't do what they were supposed to do. Other times it appears that the player wasn't in the right position, but we don't know what caused that. We don't know if the player made a mistake on their assignment, or if they were put in the wrong position by the coaches. Also, the team is playing a long stretch of quality teams. The last 3 teams are all higher in the Big Sky standings than UND and the game before that was a FBS school. They have NAU, Monanta, and MSU in the next 3 games. UND hasn't played a series of games with quality opponents like this in years, if ever. That will wear on a team. That may have contributed to last night. UND hasn't developed the depth they will need to compete in the Big Sky on a regular basis. As geaux_sioux says, we have seen that the team has the talent to compete at this level. They don't have the consistency yet to compete on a regular basis. The team is a work in progress. It will be interesting to see what happens during the next few games. Other than UND fans, most people expected UND to be in the middle to lower part of the Big Sky this year. That is where they are right now. There are 5 games left so we will see where they end up.
-
They also only have 2 wins so far, Azusa Pacific and Weber State. If you want to compare scores, Davis lost to San Jose State by a score of 45-13, San Jose beat San Diego State 38-34 and UND lost to San Diego State 49-41. The only reason that the UND-Cal Poly game wasn't closer was because of turnovers. Turnovers can change the complexion of a game very quickly and don't necessarily reflect the talent level of a team. The only UND game so far that has really gotten out of hand was the EWU game yesterday.

My guess is a lack of actual evidence. You can investigate all you want, but there are rules of evidence and if you can't meet those rules you can't prosecute. Evidence needed would probably include some kind of a paper trail, video evidence or some kind of actual evidence that specific alcohol was provided to specific individuals. If multiple people brought alcohol, and it was a party so multiple people probably brought alcohol, how could they prove which person supplied the alcohol that a specific minor consumed. If only 1 or 2 people supplied all of the alcohol, they might be able to prosecute them. But I highly doubt that only 1 or 2 people supplied alcohol for a college party. And even then it could be hard to prove that the minors didn't consume alcohol some other place also. I'm not sure who you are referring to as a captain that was present at the dorms. The captains and assistants are MacWilliam, Kristo, Rowney and Knight. I don't remember them being listed as present at the dorm when 911 was called or when the police were present. Derek Forbert has been listed as present in the dorm, he is not a captain.

UND was picked 6th by the media and 10th by the coaches before the season. UND probably has one of the most difficult schedules in the Big Sky. Some place between 6th and 10th is probably where this team actually ranks. The team has better talent overall than the past few years. It is also facing better teams, and more good teams, than in past years. Welcome to the Big Sky.

NDSU fans keep telling us that no one cares, and that it will never be mentioned again. I guess that the Strib didn't get the memo.

Where exactly did he apologize? He tried to explain what happened by saying that he let his emotions get the better of him. But he never used words like apology or sorry. There is a difference between saying that you may have said something wrong, and apologizing for doing it. That is the most we are going to hear from him on the issue, but it wasn't really an apology.
