They are still kids, I believe that you have stated the same. As kids they still need guidance. They still need to learn. They still make mistakes. They don't know everything, even if they believe that they do. Isn't college supposed to be a place where they learn, where they are guided, where mistakes are corrected? If the answer to that question is yes, then you don't just "let kids be kids". You correct when you can and you help them learn lessons about life. They aren't going to completely stop making mistakes, none of us do. But it's a good thing if they can learn to cut down on the number of mistakes they make and the severity of those mistakes.

This is from the article in the GF Herald over the weekend. It doesn't mention anything about any charges other than the 4 minors, so I doubt that there will be any other charges. If they were going to charge any more players they would have included them in the statement.

POLL: Should UND-NDSU Resume the Football Series?

Don't you have enough football players that have been charged with crimes in the past few months to field a starting 11 plus have a few subs? -
Thank you for your concern, and thank you for your interest in UND football. If I were an NDSU fan I would be more concerned about having cupcakes on your teams schedule that you can beat by 60, and the fact that 10 players have a court date coming up in less than 2 weeks.

I would guess that the team is going to take it one game at a time, and try to win each game individually. When they get down to the end of the season they will deal with the playoffs if they get a chance to go. A conference title is always one of the team goals at the beginning of the season and they will continue toward that goal until it is decided. The playoffs would also be one of the team goals at the beginning of the season. But I really don't think that the team is spending much time worrying about playoffs or bubbles at this point in the season. The next thing on the team's minds should be Cal Poly and stopping their running game.

Blaming the NCAA for what someone does on an ESPN broadcast isn't much different than blaming the NCAA for what the Washington Redskins do with their nickname. Or blaming the NCAA when the Atlanta Braves fans do the tomahawk chop. The NCAA has no control over either ESPN or the Washington Redskins or the Atlanta Braves. They do business with all 3. But the most they could do with ESPN is to ask that it doesn't happen again. The NCAA didn't single out the University of North Dakota. They singled out 30+ schools that had Native American names or imagery. They ended up giving about 6 of them passes because their local tribes gave permission to the schools within a set time period. UND couldn't do that. UND couldn't get the proper permissions when they got a second chance. The other 20 something schools had to change a name or lose NA imagery. UND was part of that group. No one expected this to cure all problems or eliminate any references to Native Americans immediately. Dwelling on every incident isn't going to help anyone and is just going to drag out the pain even longer. If Lee Korso actually threw the headdress, ESPN should be upset about that. That is an insult to many tribes. He may not be aware of that. But if someone wanted to actually accomplish something, alerting ESPN to that fact would be a good thing so that it doesn't happen again.

Most coaches don't keep a starter on the bench when they return from an injury. Hanson won the job last spring and again this fall. He looked excellent in the playing time he had. I expect him to return as a starter when he is healthy enough to play on a regular basis, whether that is next week or one of the weeks after that.

Your other option would have been to duplicate what was on the monitor and have them both showing the same thing. But this way you can use the computer for something else while watching the game. That's the way I have things set up also and it works great.

The NCAA doesn't have anything to do with the TV contracts for college football. The conferences and schools have their own contracts. So I'm not sure which contract negotiating session you are talking about, the one for NCAA tournaments? A small incident like this wouldn't even be on either the NCAA or ESPN radar. Plus, FSU has the right to use the nickname and imagery from the NCAA, and ESPN was just mimicking FSU. The NCAA isn't going to cause a fuss over that. It is doubtful that anyone other than some sensitive UND fans and maybe a few Native American activists would care about this, and the Native American activists probably don't watch much college football.

1. The NCAA doesn't control ESPN + 2. They were talking about Florida State, which has permission to use the name and uses similar costumes and actions = Nothing is going to happen and the only ones that are going to get upset about it are UND fans

I remember drinking under age also. And I remember some students getting caught and being suspended. If you get caught, you pay the price. If your coach gives you explicit instructions and you don't follow them, you're going to have to pay the price. The team was stupid and they are going to pay the price. It is as simple as that.

The police department and AD are doing their job. Laws were broken, the kids got caught. The coach and the AD have more responsibilities than just putting the teams on ice, court, field, etc. Part of their jobs are to teach the players life lessons. And part of their jobs are to protect the University. Hakstol and Faison appear like they are trying to do their jobs properly. And you are sounding a little like the Bison fans that want to protect their players.

POLL: Should UND-NDSU Resume the Football Series?
82SiouxGuy replied to ShilohSioux's topic in Football
The whole house sales comparison doesn't really cut it. And here's why. Both UND and NDSU are owned by the people of North Dakota. Ultimately Gene Taylor and every other employee at both NDSU and UND work for the people of North Dakota. Scheduling this game is like trying to negotiate a contract between 2 departments of the same business, not like selling a house. At some point there will be enough people demanding the game happens that Gene will be forced to put it on the schedule (if he is still at NDSU). I don't know whether that will come from the legislature or in another form. But it's going to happen. It's happened in other states where in state rivals should be playing and weren't. NDSU is just putting off the inevitable. -
So they need to raise about $90,000 a day until June 30, 2013 to reach the goal by the end of the fiscal year.
-
If they don't have it now they may never get it.
-
They are still promoting the Spirit fundraising campaign. They hope to wrap it up this year. I believe they were about $30 million short of the goal as of July 1. I'm sure that's why he is wearing a North Dakota Spirit shirt.

POLL: Should UND-NDSU Resume the Football Series?

Some people do care. Inquiring minds want to know. -
Since there were 2 minors right after school started, my guess is that Hakstol had a team meeting and warned them. 2 weeks later they have a team party that results in 4 more minors. That is outside the norm. Then you throw in whatever Kristo and O'Donnell did to break team rules. With all of the added attention due to previous issues at UND and the 10 football players in Fargo, Hak and Faison are making a point in a big way to get the team's attention.

None of those are considered professional in the same way that law and medicine are. They are very good programs, but they aren't classic professional programs. -

Other than the fact that UND gave him what he originally wanted and he decided that it wasn't going to work after all. What changed? -
The police have been involved since the beginning. This is from the original article written about the incident. I'm not sure why people keep thinking that the police weren't involved. They investigated and have filled out reports. More details are going to be released on Monday when the charges are officially filed.

You're right. Expecting a redshirt freshman to play would be questionable. The NCAA wouldn't pay as much attention in this case. But when a starter is injured in the opening game, and the injury is only expected to keep them out for a few games, it would raise a lot of red flags for the NCAA if they applied for a medical redshirt.

Does that mean that NDSU is afraid that they will lose to UND and hurt their chances of making the playoffs? What happened to the idea of playing anybody? And I thought you were done replying to me. Today we have added 2 different marketing strategies to the litany of reasons NDSU has for not playing UND in football. Just keep making excuses guys. -
POLL: Should UND-NDSU Resume the Football Series?
82SiouxGuy replied to ShilohSioux's topic in Football
I haven't worried about yearly or every other year for a long time. With an every other year schedule you would lose a maximum of 1 game every 4 years. That could be mitigated in some years when 12 games are allowed, which means you could still have everything you listed plus the series. It would also be mitigated by the facts that you could make as much money with the series, and the fact that the 1 out of 4 years the extra away game is only 75 miles away. A home and home series with UND every other year would be a very minor adjustment to your precious scheduling strategy. Considering the number of years that NDSU has had trouble getting home games, it should almost be a relief. Also, just look back to the series of years that Montana scheduled cupcake home games and the response of Montana fans after a few years. -

You do realize that this is a UND fan site, don't you? Do you think that you are going to come here, have your way, change our minds and make this another NDSU site? That would be even more delusional than anything found on Bville, and that is a high bar. The brick wall appears to be between your ears. If you don't want to hear what we are saying on this site, don't come to the site.
