  1. Their job description does not include posting on fan forums 24 hours a day/7 days a week. It's Sunday, and they had a football game yesterday. Jayson will probably address your question when he gets a chance during the regular work week. Insulting? Get over yourself.
  2. There are several strong programs in the league. UND is only going to get 1 vote in any conference decision. Most of the decisions are supposed to be made based on what is best for the entire conference, not what is best for an individual school. Getting a television contract that pays the conference to broadcast hockey games every week on a national basis is good for the conference.
  3. There were very good reasons for leaving the WCHA after Minnesota and Wisconsin announced they were leaving. Those reasons still apply. The television deal was made well after the new league was formed. UND had no choice about being party to the league TV contract as long as they wanted to remain part of the league.
  4. I believe that Paypal takes money out for 2 different reasons. If the person marks "I'm paying for goods or services", then the person receiving money is charged a fee. If the person marks "I'm sending money to family or friends" one of two things happen. If the money is coming from a bank account, there is no charge. If the money is coming from a debit or credit card, the sender is charged a fee. So my guess is that the people marked the paying for goods button.
  5. Most of that money goes back to the member schools also. I found and posted a breakdown of revenue and expenses from the NCAA web site at one time. I'm not going to go back and look for it right now, but I believe the NCAA budget is less than 10% of the TV revenues they bring in from the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball tournament. Just about all other TV money goes straight to the conferences and schools. The NCAA passes hundreds of millions of dollars along to the member schools, with the bigger conferences taking home most of it.
  6. A vast majority of the TV money flows through the NCAA and back to the member schools. So the schools themselves would need to return the money.
  7. The NCAA is a true membership organization. The NFL is set up a little differently. Legally, the 2 organizations are not set up exactly the same. I haven't done any research on the topic, so I'm not sure exactly what power the NFL would have over something like a nickname. Just because one organization (the NCAA) made one decision doesn't mean that the NFL could do exactly the same thing. I'm sure that the NFL could do something more than they have. The NFL may do something more in the future. At this point they are leaving it to the individual teams (although they are probably putting some pressure on Washington because of the negative or potentially negative PR).
  8. Are the NFL and the NCAA related in any way? Do they work the same in any other way? They are different types of organizations. They can make different decisions based on different criteria. The NCAA made rules, which they were legally allowed to do. The NFL may be able to do something more on the subject if they chose, I'm not sure what their limits might be. But so far they have chosen to let Washington make their own decision. That may or may not change in the future. And the NCAA has absolutely no control over the NFL, so their policy has no bearing at all on the NFL policy.
  9. He can't compete on the football field so he has to try to impress them in some way. He's choosing the squad's other area of expertise.
  10. I'm guessing that no one does, just sayin'...

He must have had a 50% completion percentage to be ranked that high.

Sure, some web site I've never heard of is supposed to prove that he is a better than average QB? 9 out of 21 passing for 157 yards is not an above average QB performance. Nice try troll.
  13. As has been said by many others, coaches usually get too much credit when things go well and too much blame when they go bad. Others give them little or no credit for anything that goes well and still blame them for anything that goes wrong. In many cases it can be a no win situation.
  14. As I said, they made the playoffs last year. Ponder got hurt and missed the playoff game. Don't the coaches get credit for going from 3-13 to 10-6 last year?
  15. They went 10-6 last year and went to the playoffs. Would that be because of the coaching? Or do you just blame coaching when it doesn't go your way?
  16. This topic has been covered before. This post from Teeder11, http://forum.siouxsports.com/topic/16567-gf-heralds-wayne-nelson-calling-und-green-and-white/#entry537400, gives proof back to 1995. That was as far as he could go back in the GF Herald archives. I go back to the 1960's in Grand Forks and I remember the term Green and White being used in the 60's and 70's. For those of you that don't know, that was when the Sioux nickname first became an issue, but I don't know if that was why Green and White was used or not. MafiaMan may not remember that (I'm guessing that there may be a little loss of memory caused by alcohol, but that's only a guess), but the term Green and White has been used to refer to UND athletic teams for a long time. Maybe it wasn't used much between 1988 and 1992. I lived out of state during that period. But it was used as an alternative before that.
  17. Not everyone got PBS in the 80's. Not everyone can get PBS now. There is no perfect answer. TV rights and coverage is continually changing. What exists now is not what will exist later this season, and isn't what will exist next year. We get it, you used to get UND hockey games on FTA, now you can't get them. This contract, with Midco purchasing the TV rights and broadcasting games, was the best option available to UND when the contract was signed. Which means it was the best option overall for the UND athletic department. The UND staff is trying to do what is best for the athletic department. That may not be what is best for some individuals. But having the same conversation over and over again for the entire 5 years of the contract isn't going to change that.
  18. UND hockey games were on PBS in North Dakota. None of the other sports were broadcast, and the coverage was only broadcast to people that were able to receive Prairie Public Broadcasting. That was mainly in North Dakota, and in the area close to North Dakota. I don't think that UND hockey games being broadcast on Prairie Public was a significant factor in recruiting.
  19. If they get paid a small amount for every subscriber on Dish and/or Direct, that would probably add up to a lot more than the number of subscribers it may cost them in their cable systems. They want to build their cable systems first and foremost, but getting on national systems would be very good for their business.
  20. I've been told by several Midco people that they are interested in Direct and/or Dish. They also talked about trying to get on Twin Cities cable systems. These people all realized that there are UND alumni spread around the country, and that they are interested in UND sports.
  21. Do you really believe that thousands of people in the western hemisphere stumble on UND games while surfing FTA, and then they become fans of UND athletics? I'm sure that there are people that have become fans of UND hockey after stumbling on the games. But the number is not in the thousands, and most of those fans are not fans of the entire athletic program.
  22. Fox College Sports does not broadcast in HD on their regular channels. Those are broadcast on SD.
  23. Not as many games were shown. Last year was the first time that 40 plus games were shown. Before that it was usually hockey and a couple of football games. More games builds fans more than a few games. Exposure for more sports is also important. Again, Midco purchased the rights so they can build their business. One of the tools they are using is UND sports on their sports network. It doesn't make any sense to Midco to just give cable systems the UND games. That doesn't help them build their network. And they don't get their money's worth (the $200,000 they are paying UND every year) if they aren't building an audience for the entire sports channel. Building a good sports network will help build demand for the network with other cable systems, and may even help Midco build enough interest to get Direct or Dish interested. Long term, building the entire sports channel will help Midco get it more exposure, which will help UND athletics get more exposure. You keep bringing up the fact that some people can't see the games. UND is working on building things for the long term and so is Midco.
  24. Putting 40 plus UND games, in sports like basketball and volleyball besides all 7 football games and all home hockey games, in thousands of homes in 4 states will give more exposure to more people than the games that were shown on FTA. That doesn't count the 2 half hour coaches shows that Midco is producing each week and broadcasting in all of those homes. In spite of what you believe, not a large number of viewers on FTA are going to become big fans of UND athletics. Putting those games in homes within 250-300 miles of Grand Forks is more likely to get create long term fans for a school like UND than having it on FTA.
  25. The store is run by a private business known as GW Gear (Green and White Gear). It has been around for more than a year. They don't have a nickname that they can use to promote the school or products. UND has been known as the Green and White as a secondary and informal nickname for years. The media has to use something, just using UND gets very repetitive and doesn't always read well. If you go back and read Herald stories over the years, you would see the team being called Green and White even in stories where Sioux or Fighting Sioux are also used. There is so conspiracy. The paranoia runs very strong.
