  1. Thanks. I think it's mainly one topic where we haven't agreed.
  2. You're 61 and I'm 53. What's your point? You're not my elder even if you're a few years older. If you can't have an adult conversation, that's your problem. I don't go in for the group think that happens around here sometimes, especially the negative group think. I try to bring facts into the conversation as much as I can rather than just go with the emotional BS that often gets thrown around. I look at things from a different point of view than some of you. But I guess it hurts some people's feelings if I disagree with them. Again, that's your problem.
  3. Actually, we have met a couple of times. The last was when I picked up the hats that Mafia made. But we have never had much of a conversation in person.
  4. Never challenged or tried to provoke her. But you do seem obsessed with trying to start something.
  5. I also admitted when I was wrong. Not a lawyer, but someone that likes to keep facts in the discussion as much as possible. Too many people just want to throw out emotional arguments.
  6. I blame distracted posting. It's kind of like texting while driving, I probably shouldn't be doing other things at the same time I'm posting.
  7. I would take a job with UND Relations. I get tired of the negative attitudes and comments that are thrown out when people have no idea what they are talking about. If someone wants to question why they dropped the shuttle, I don't have a problem with that. I would recommend that they contact the people in charge and ask the questions. But just getting on an internet forum and ranting, calling a simple decision like this a huge, unforgivable mistake or similar attitudes aren't productive in any way. There might be very good reasons for decisions that are made. I used the shuttle from time to time, and I don't think it got very heavy usage. If it didn't get heavy usage and they were losing money on it, that is an acceptable reason for discontinuing it to me even though it is an inconvenience to me. People rant all the time about UND and other public bodies wasting money. Here is a case where they are trying to save a few dollars, and people complain about that. How about getting actual numbers before going overboard with the complaints. How many people were actually using the shuttle? There are several parking lots that are much closer to the REA than the ramp. They aren't as close as riding the shuttle. Many of them are only $5 versus the $10 in the ramp with the shuttle ride. There are options. There is parking around Albatross for $10. Again, not as close as the shuttle, but probably closer than some of the UND lots. Look at options before just complaining. I agree, if people don't like it they don't have to buy tickets. You know when you buy the tickets what the parking options are. Since I don't have a parking pass, I've done a lot of things for parking. I've ridden shuttles from bars. I used to park at Memorial and ride the shuttle when that was an option, I even walked from there a few times. I've parked on the street. I've parked behind Tabula. I've ridden with a friend with an A sticker and parked by the Nursing building when that was an option. I've even used someone else's parking pass a few times. I find the best option available to me and I use it. But I don't go on the internet and rant about it if someone does something I don't like or agree with.
  8. I believe that the REA parking lots are pretty much filled, so I doubt that this was the plan.
  9. Funny, I went to a football game and a hockey game rather than arguing with people on the internet.
  10. He may be right. Iowa and Illinois are 2 schools I always thought should consider it. But what does "a matter of time" mean in years? 2, 5, 20?
  11. I didn't see large numbers of elderly or people with disabilities. Actually I saw very few people with disabilities. There were a decent number of families. How many other schools provide shuttle service? You love to rant about how terrible UND is and that they shouldn't have gone DI if they couldn't afford to do the gold plated version, how many other DI programs provide shuttle services for fans? UND has no obligation to provide the shuttles. If you buy a ticket, getting to the game is your responsibility. I'm going to miss the shuttle, but I will find other options.
  12. I rode the shuttle 5-10 games a year for the past several years. My estimate is an average of about 300 people used the ramp and shuttles. I don't think I ever saw the ramp over half full even when other events were using it. That is about 2.5-3% of the attendance at each game. Most of them showed up at one time to ride back after the game, that's why there were lines. Almost all of them fit on the 4 buses that made the initial trip back.
  13. One other thing to remember is that cash may not be the only thing that REA provides for UND. There is a value to services provided. If REA provides services at lower cost than UND would be able to provide for themselves (or no cost), there is a value to that because it is money that UND doesn't have to spend. It is often called an in-kind donation. That value is also probably mixed into the 990 somewhere. That's another reason you either need to read the attachments and schedules very thoroughly or get an explanation from someone at REA.
  14. 1) I don't think that is the 990 for the full organization. It seems to only be part of the organization. My guess is that they have more than 1 501©3 set up. It might be the 990 for the Betty, but that is just a guess. 2) You probably have to read through any explanations. I doubt that it's as simple as picking out 1 of those lines. Sometimes the answer is in one of the schedules later in the document. 3) You may need to talk with someone at REA to get the explanation or break out the number.
  15. I'm pretty sure that Jayson said the Android app wasn't done yet. They are working on it but don't have a release date yet.
  16. Because of the North Dakota Legislature. Remember, they wouldn't accept the donation of the building if it was going to cost any money. They wanted to have a track record showing it would pay for itself, including long term upgrades. That's where the delay comes from in terms of turning the building over to UND.
  17. His point is that all costs and expenses have to come out of the funds before they transfer money to UND. They can't just transfer all revenues that come in. If UND owned the building then UND would pay those costs after the money was transferred. A facility is going to have costs and expenses no matter who owns it. If you are that concerned about the funding, do your own homework instead of asking someone to spoon feed it to you. As has been stated on this thread, all of the information is available with a small amount of digging and a phone call or 2. You can see the Form 990's from past years at several different web sites. Google it. The forms are often 30+ pages long, you should be able to find 2011 for sure. You may find 2012, it takes a little while for them to get posted. 2013 may not have been filed yet if they operate on a budget year starting July 1 or somewhere else in the middle of the year. As a 501©3 non-profit, the 990 will provide a lot of the information, although not always a lot of detail. The IRS is very protective of the 501©3 status so 990's are pretty accurate. Call REA and talk to Jody or an accountant. Call the athletic department. And as a part of the state government, UND will provide a great deal of information to the public. Ranting about how REA is screwing UND on an internet bulletin board is just wasting people's time.
  18. You really don't need to beg.
  19. I can't find it right now, but there was an official policy related to tribal approval. The NCAA decided they would allow appeals on a case-by-case basis and that It was first announced for Florida State. With that precedent it was also set up for other schools using Native American names and imagery. They set up a window of time for the schools to get tribal approval. That's how other schools like Utah State still have approval for using Native American names. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/24/sports/24mascot.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0 http://archives.republicans.edlabor.house.gov/archive/hearings/109th/fc/ncaa121506/franklin.htm
  20. The approval by the tribes was a method to give the NCAA an out in cases where there was actually push back on the new policy. It wasn't part of the original policy. The long term goal of the NCAA still appears to be eliminating all Native American nicknames and imagery. The policy does discuss racial, ethnic and national origins. It isn't a big stretch of the imagination to think that they will extend the policy to all nicknames and imagery related to race, ethnicity or national origin at some time. So, at this point in time a name like Fighting Norse is not against the policy, but tSic has always wanted to avoid human nicknames that might be a target of an expanded NCAA policy.
  21. He is Associate Athletic Director for Development, which means he raises money for the Athletic Department. The position requires a lot of travel to meet donors and potential donors that are interested in giving money to the Athletic Department. The best place to meet many of these would be at UND athletic events around the country. That means either the UND Athletic Department or the UND Alumni Association is going to pay for the travel. If he meets with alumni or other potential donors on the trips he is doing his job.
  22. Not going to waste my time. Just stating a simple observation about your behavior. Of course I try to use generally accepted spelling and grammar from the English language.
  23. You seem to think so based on your normal posts.
  24. Do you actually think you know more about running an athletic department than Mr. Faison? I highly doubt it.
  25. I don't think that the CBS Sports contract would stop Midco from getting a feed from someone else and broadcasting a game from some other place.
