  1. He obviously has a serious problem if he tested positive 12 times and still managed to skip 11 tests so far this year. Especially when he knew the tests were coming. I hope he finds a way to kick his habit.
  2. The schedule did originally show the CC series on Tuesday and Wednesday nights but that was a misprint. The correct dates are February 26 and 27.
  3. At the rate that UBC is moving in their approach to joining the NC$$ it looks like it will be at least 5-10 years before they could consider putting together a western hockey league.
  4. I wouldn't want to see anyone try to throw an elephant from the upper deck.
  5. I believe that you were looking for homo sapiens, which is Latin for "wise man" or "knowing man". DaveK seems to have his own dictionary and his opinions can often be substituted for facts, at least in his arguments.
  6. I was in school during that time period but I don't remember any name close to that. Sorry I can't help you.
  7. It's interesting that you question that move but you throw out other scenarios and ask people to believe them with far less corroborating evidence.
  8. This question has been asked before. I didn't go back to find it, but I am pretty sure that Jim Dahl said he would change the name if UND changes their name.
  9. That is the reason that they are in separate conferences. That doesn't mean that they would have to stay in separate conferences. One option would be to have teams make 1 trip and play both teams. Or as was pointed out earlier, the Alaskan teams have to make several trips to the Lower 48 so it isn't crucial to limit others to only 1 trip to Alaska. But I still believe that the WCHA would rather have UNO than UAF and Blais going to Omaha could be a sign that they are interested in switching conferences.
  10. There is a pretty good chance that the actual application will be completed after the decision has been pretty much settled. UNO probably won't want to put in an actual application unless they know that it will be approved. Why burn bridges in the CCHA unless they have to. But the proximity to many other schools and the previous working relationship with so many former NCC schools make it the best possible fit for a 12th team in the WCHA when Bemidji is added.

    Blais

I think that this increases the possibility of Omaha moving to the WCHA. I'm sure that Blais would love competing with all of his old pals and making trips back to Grand Forks and Minneapolis.
  12. The first part of my post was in response to mikejm who said that 2 WCHA teams would spend 11 days in Alaska every other week. I was just pointing out that it would probably be 2 weeks in Alaska and 2 weeks in the Lower 48 for the Alaska teams so it would be 1 trip per month for WCHA teams to Alaska. As for UAA, it should cut their travel slightly. They will still be limited to the same number of games per season. They will probably have the same number of league games spread over 11 teams instead of 9. However they would probably play home and away series against UAF instead of just a single series each year. That means 1 less trip to the Lower 48. It also means that each team would have fewer home and away series with league opponents each year.
  13. I'm not sure that it would be real hard to schedule. The league would just have to set up a more predictable schedule. Teams would be paired up and rotate schedules a little more. They would just have to get the Alaska portion of the schedule done first. That being said, I'm not sold on the idea either and think that Omaha would probably be a better match.
  14. It would actually be 2 WCHA teams spending 11 days in Alaska once per month. The Alaska teams would still spend the other 2 weekends each month down in the Lower 48 except for the 2 weekends they would play each other every year. So it would end up being 1 less trip to the Lower 48 each year for both Alaska schools. And probably result in 3 or 4 extra days of school missed for each of the other 10 teams because of travel.

Or: Will it go round in circles Will it fly high like a bird up in the sky Will it go round in circles Will it fly high like a bird up in the sky
  16. The Women's Olympic team will be picked in a camp and then stay together as a group and play games until the Olympics next winter. I think I heard that they would be headquartered in the Twin Cities. That's the way Men's Olympic team was selected and operated in 1980 when they won the gold. The key is that they are using amateur players. The 1980 Men's team was made up mainly of college players. The current Men's team will be selected after a camp, but they will probably all be current NHL players. The Olympics will be held during a break in the NHL season. My guess is that the Men's Olympic team will play a couple of quick exhibition games against other Olympic teams and then play out the Olympics.
  17. My reply was a joke. Obviously you didn't get it. Maybe you missed the winking emoticon. Are you missing your funny bone? After thinking about this issue a lot, I think that Geaux Sioux is correct. I think that UND would have had problems no matter what they did to work with the tribes. There is a more active opposition group working on Native American issues in the plains area than in most other parts of the country. AIM is one example. UND might have been able to work with the tribes better if they had worked harder earlier. But they would have had issues and an active opposition group no matter how hard they worked.
  18. I knew that the Channel Cats were in the Northwoods Leage and it was a college league Cape Cod only probably not quite as good of quality. Many of the best prospects play in the Cape Cod. My point was that there were 2 efforts to have independent summer baseball teams in town that were higher level than the schools or legion teams and neither one did well at the box office. I should have been more explicit in my description. Pro baseball would definitely need a new park, and probably a large benefactor to pay for that park. Pro baseball did work in Grand Forks for many years. The Grand Forks Chiefs were a member of an earlier form of the Northern League. They were a minor league team for several different major league teams from the 1930s to the early 60s. The best known player to play for the Chiefs was probably baseball Hall of Famer Willie Stargell. He hit 11 home runs and batted .260 for the 1960 Chiefs.
  19. Just because NDSU caused the problem doesn't mean that they should help fix it.
  20. I know that while remodeling some Grand Forks schools they have put in more windows and put windows in rooms that did not have windows before. The reason they stated for doing this was to allow more natural light because it is healthier than fluorescent lighting.
  21. I believe that Texas Tech ended up at #7 in the 2008 final BCS standings and Kansas ended up at #34.
  22. If anyone told you that life was fair they were lying to you. Of course that wouldn't be fair either.
  23. The problem is that Fighting Sioux is a great nickname. It would be (will be?) hard to replace. But I agree with you that a good nickname can be found and a successful switch is possible. But I also know that nothing is going to please everyone.
  24. I beg to differ with you a little bit. The vast majority of us are not happy that a change seems very likely. That's why this thread and several others exist. Without seeing the future it is impossible to predict that no one will be happy with the change at any point in the future. A certain group will be happy with the change, the size of the group will depend on the quality of a replacement, how it is implemented and how long it has been since the change. More people will be happy in 5 years than in 1 year and more people happy in 10 years. And there will definitely be a group that will never be happy with a change.
