  1. It still sounds like whining when it is part of every game discussion and most other threads. It isn't going to change unless the member schools decide to make the change. All of the teams have to deal with it. And it isn't going to change in the middle of the season. Maybe someone should start a thread about how horrible the refs are and try to keep it in one place rather than letting it dominate so many other threads. But Ole's right, even if it is true it sounds childish to continually complain about the refs.
  2. It would take him stopping the next 62 shots to get to 90% the quickest. He hasn't played that many games, so it isn't a huge accomplishment to get from where he is to 90%. Maybe you forgot his stats from last year, they were pretty good:
  3. He has struggled some so far this year. Dell played about the same as Eidsness before this weekend, but Dell had a pretty good weekend. Pro teams don't make decisions on signing players based on their performance in a couple of games. They don't even make the decisions based on a single season. They scout for years. They look for things that they can fix or potential for the players to improve. Buffalo likes Eidsness and if he wants to go pro at the end of the season they will sign him. He would probably start in the AHL, but if he struggles throughout the season he might start down another level. This is from Hockey Futures, I would trust their opinion a little more than the average sports rube:
  4. He was pretty highly regarded coming into the season and I don't think that a few games are going to change the professional scouts minds. As a matter of fact, others seem to think of him more highly than a lot of the fans on this site. So yes, I do think that he could sign a professional contract right now if he wanted to do that, and he will probably have that opportunity after the season.
  5. Check Ticketmaster.com. They had quite a few tickets left.
  6. It will be difficult with the twins missing the next 3 games.
  7. The comparison is never going to be apples to apples unless the schools have exactly the same sports. But comparing the size of departments and the capabilities of those departments is a valid comparison. Without hockey it looks like UND would be close to SDSU, but well above USD. UND usually makes a small profit in the athletic department (about $200,000 last year reported and probably wouldn't without hockey) and USD made about $3,000 in the last reported year. If you go to the link that was provided you can look up all of the information you want, although it is hard to break it down because for the most part the only sports that are seperated out are football and basketball. It looks like USD lost about $180,000 in that year for football and UND lost about $145,000.
  8. Ticketmaster has plenty of tickets left for Friday, I didn't check Saturday. It is Thanksgiving weekend and the students are gone so there are tickets left in 1 lower section and all of the student upper deck sections plus a couple of more. Ticketmaster.com is now more interactive so you can pick your seats.
  9. For those that can't make it they can watch the game on Fox College Sports, available on many cable systems and on Direct TV.
  10. I'm pretty sure that UND is on the same border as NDSU and SDSU. UND gets coverage from the same outlets as NDSU. None of the schools you mentioned get much coverage in the big media markets like Minneapolis, Madison or even Duluth; except for UND hockey. So your point is off base, UND isn't losing any coverage that they would have gotten by being in the Summit/MVFC except for games they would have played against NDSU, SDSU or USD. And UND can still play games against those 3 schools, it just won't happen as often.
  11. Either that or he needs a bigger freezer.
  12. The new format started today, so your info wasn't that old.
  13. A lot of schools are only going to want 8 so that they can get 1 or 2 FBS games plus 1 or 2 OOC, especially Montana. It is possible to play another league school as an OOC game, it just wouldn't count in the standings.
  14. I believe that the programming on 107.9 is just another location for 1590 AM. In other words, it looks like Fox Sports is no more and they are playing rock music on both of those frequencies. 1440 is as close as Grand Forks comes to a sports station right now.
  15. Do you think that they'll decide to dump UND? UND is a quality school that will add to the conference. The reasons that the Big Sky decided to add schools are still valid. The Big Sky doesn't have a lot of better options in the western part of the country. The Big Sky is going to be plenty upset with USD. Some may not be happy about traveling all the way to Grand Forks. But none of them will blame UND for this situation.
  16. USD was going to make a last attempt at the Summit/MVFC combo whether anyone announced any of the moves to the Big Sky or not. Obviously the South Dakota Board fo Regents wanted to keep USD and SDSU together if at all possible. UND keeping quiet or making the announcement had no effect on the situation. The Big Sky said that they didn't want to add any more football-only schools. Davis and Cal Poly were the exceptions to the rule. Football-only in the Southland or Big South would have been very difficult if they were even possible. The Big Sky was the 3rd best of the possible options, Summit/MVFC or Summit/Big Sky football would have possibly been better options, but neither one had a chance of happening. The Big Sky without USD is slightly less desireable. The Big Sky without Montana or even Montana State is even less desireable, but even under those conditions the Big Sky is still a good conference and the best available option at this time.
  17. Do you believe that the MVFC would have taken UND? Do you believe that USD would have said no to the MVFC and yes to the Big Sky just because UND was standing beside them waiting for a conference? Neither situation would have happened under any conditions. You're fooling yourself if you think UND waiting would have changed this situation in any way. USD said yes to the Summit without UND many months ago. They decided to do what was in their best interest without regard to UND. Nothing wrong with that. But they aren't going to change that strategy at this time. They planned to switch to the Big Sky because that was what was best for them at the time, they thought it was their only chance at a home for football. It had nothing to do with whether UND went with them or not. If the MVFC has come calling then they would take that option because they believe it is best for them. It wouldn't matter where UND stood on either issue. UND had 2 options, Big Sky for all sports or Summit for most sports plus football as an independent. It didn't matter if USD was standing beside them or not. Those were UND's options. UND made the right decision.
  18. The MVFC had no intention of adding both UND and USD under any conditions. They didn't plan to add any schools right now. They didn't want to go to 10 teams and definitely wouldn't have gone to 11. So waiting wouldn't have gotten UND into the MVFC. If USD has received an invite to the MVFC and take it as it sounds like may be happening, they probably would have done the same thing if UND were still waiting with them. Their move to the Big Sky had to be approved by their Board of Regents. It still would have taken this long, even if UND were still waiting with them. The MVFC would have had the same amount of time to change their mind and make an offer to USD. They probably still would have made an offer to only USD and not UND. And USD probably would make the same decision because the Board of Regents would look at cost of travel and having USD in the same conference as SDSU. No matter how UND played the game, the result for USD doesn't change and neither does the result for UND.
  19. The exact numbers aren't important because each show is going to be different. There is no way to say that any show that gets 2,500 people would get a profit of $25,000 unless you have all of the details for that particular show. We don't know the exact conversation that was going on and don't know if he was being literal or not. He may have just been throwing numbers out to prove a point. The point is that they can make a good profit on a small show if it is done right. And if the attendance is really good the profit can increase quite a bit.
  20. That was before my time. I remember listening to games on the radio in the late 60's and early 70's, then attending games later in the 70's. Those all were afternoon affairs.
  21. Red Frog said that you guys could finish this game. The rest of us wish you would.
  22. The point of a dome is to avoid 20 degree temperatures with 30 mph winds and snow. They could have put lights up at Memorial if they wanted to play at night. College football is meant to be played during the day for the most part.
  23. The numbers are probably off. But if the show makes a profit at 2,500 then the extra 500 people are almost pure profit. They would operate with the same staff at 3,000 as at 2,500. The ticket per person is all profit (unless the act gets a piece of the gate rather than a flat fee). Additional parking is pure profit. And any concessions sold to those 500 are mainly profit. My estimate would be an average of $50-60 profit per additional person for that scenario. It would probably take about 3,500 people to reach that $86,000 profit rather than 3,000.
  24. Sorry about mixing and matching with the articles. Read both of them and only linked to one.
  25. New GF Herald story says that the buy in is $250,000. Golf currently belongs to the America Sky Conference and will stay there. Faison is quoted as saying that they plan to keep all current sports and that adding men's tennis will only cause some minor adjustments to correct any Title IX issues.
