Peter Johnson has publicly said that this announcement will be major, and is one of, if not the most significant announcement to come out of UND in the 22 years that he has worked at UND. That includes Ralph Engelstad's announcement.

Fox College Sports is broadcasting pretty much all of the UND home games that FSSN is producing. If they have access to Fox College Sports on DirecTV the only games your parents would be missing would be special additions like this weekend's games in Alaska.

Will the logos be kept at The Ralph ?
82SiouxGuy replied to JESUS,family, rutgers's topic in UND Nickname
The NCAA ban does not affect anything in WCHA play. So UND will still be able to host WCHA playoff rounds, and the Final Five will probably remain in St. Paul for the forseeable future. One possibility is that the NCAA has discussed going to a first round playoff series, especially if they add teams to the playoffs. That round wouldn't be held at the Ralph. Other potential casualties would be volleyball and women's basketball playoff games. -
I don't put a whole lot of stock in computer rankings, especially in the first half of the season. The rankings are too skewed by the original projections, no matter how inaccurate they may be. It is always better to play a team to get a better feeling for which team is better. But the better team doesn't always win, sometimes it's the lucky team that wins.

South Dakota State is 0-4 this year and they made the transition several years ahead of UND. I don't think they are any better as a program. NDSU went 3-8 last year after finishing the transition. They are playing much better this year. UND beat USD 13 out of the last 14, with the only loss in that stretch being back in 2005. A second loss in 15 games doesn't make USD a better program. I think that you're jumping the gun a little bit saying that the other Dakota schools are so far ahead of UND. South Dakota was the better team on the field today, they made fewer mistakes and they were at home. It doesn't mean that they are a better program.

Where can we get Sioux Jerseys after next year?
82SiouxGuy replied to BobIwabuchiFan's topic in Community
They will still care about the logo. They won't want people to continue to use it because then people will continue to use the Fighting Sioux nickname and not transition to the new name (whatever that may be). Letting the logo remain in the general population will extend any difficulty in transitioning to a new name. They will control the logo as long as possible. They may even be able to find a way to extend the period in which they control the logo. Once the new name and logo is in general use and gains enough traction (gets popular enough) they will probably let the Fighting Sioux logo go. Edit: Since I'm not a lawyer I don't know if this is possible or not. The University owns the art work that is the current logo. Owning and controlling that artwork may give them more rights to control its use than just the basic trademark laws. Or not. Another question for trademark attorneys would be whether the continued use of the logo by REA is enough to give UND control since it wouldn't be totally abandoned. The logo would be visible to people all over the country as long as UND hockey games are shown on Fox College Sports. -
Forget days like November 29, 1975 when Livingston came to Grand Forks to play. The temp at game time was 28 with 10-15 mph winds out of the northwest that got stronger through the game. Attendance was 5,212; and Livingston won 34-14. Or November 20, 1993 when Pittsburg State came to visit. Game time temps were a balmy 41 with winds out of the south gusting from 10 to 20 mph. Attendance was a huge 3,759. UND won by a score of 17-14. Which set up... November 27, 1993 when conference foe Mankato State made a play-off appearance at Memorial. 15 frosty degrees greeted the crowd that day and 3,047 hardy souls made the trip. UND won big, 54-21. Or November 19, 1994 when Northeast Missouri made the trip. They found high temps of 30 degrees with a little rain and a 7 mph wind with gusts up to 21. 3,520 people watched UND win that game 18-6. Even ideal November weather of 35 degrees, sunshine and a SE wind of 10-20 mph on November 18, 1995 and a fierce rival in NDSU could only bring out 5,595. We won't talk about the score in this one. Those were the post-season games hosted at Memorial. High temps on game days for play-off games in the Alerus Center have ranged from a high of 62 to as low as 19, with most game day highs in the 20's and lower 30's. Those are the normal temps in mid to late November and early December. If we couldn't get even 6,000 for a play-off game against NDSU, at a time when the rivalry was at its strongest, what are the odds that attendance would average more than 5,000 for games in November no matter who comes to town if they moved back outdoors.

2 Tix Available for Fri Denver Game
82SiouxGuy replied to beebsb010's topic in Tickets wanted / for sale
Of course the total per seat cost will also change with the Fighting Sioux Club level. Levels higher than Coach's Club will be more. We are in the upper deck and the last time I figured our ticket price by the game it was closer to $20. We usually sell any extra tickets at approximately face value, sometimes rounded up to a number easier to handle like $30 if the face value is $28. The extra dollars selling them that way help pay for games like Manitoba or during school breaks when you can't always sell the tickets or have to sell them real cheap. For instance, we have usually sold Manitoba and Under 20 tickets for $10 just to get bodies in the seats and recoup a few dollars. And a few times we have taken offers to let the free market decide the price, like for Minnesota games. And for some games you can't sell the tickets or the person that agrees to buy them doesn't show up, so you lose money on those days. I don't think we have ever made money selling tickets at the end of the year, the goal is always just to come close to break even for tickets that we don't plan to use. -

It is illegal in some places. But it isn't illegal to scalp tickets in Grand Forks. We have had this discussion before, and if I remember right the law in North Dakota states that individual cities can make their own ordinances on the subject. Grand Forks does not have an ordinance against selling tickets for more than face value. You may not like it, but it is legal and our free market system says that you can sell tickets (and most other things) for whatever price you can get for them. -
I believe that Mr. Fritz made multiple donations. I know that he donated art work and artifacts. But I believe he made more than 1 cash donation also.
-
They run buses from the Chester Fritz lot, and I think from the east end of campus also. I don't think they search backpacks on the bus, but they do in the building. Unfortunately, that's a fact of life in any building of any size for events these days.

Let's see who is living in the past, oh yeah, in your next post you talk about 8 national championships. How about winning something in this century before you start spouting off. Or winning a playoff game in a stadium you've played in for almost 2 decades. And as far as I know, there is no column in the standings for FBS wins. They count the same as any other wins. The only advantage they bring is some bragging rights for people like yourself. I'm pretty sure that the team itself realizes that the most of the FBS teams they have beat have been pretty weak. The extra scholarships haven't done much for them. So it's nice to talk about FBS wins, but in reality they don't add much except a little extra press. And then we get back to attendance. The Fargo metro area has more than 200,000 people. The Grand Forks metro area has about 100,000 people. Just by sheer numbers there should be at least twice as many people at NDSU football games as at UND football games. That math isn't too difficult for you, is it? NDSU should be embarrassed if there isn't a lot more people at their games. That is only common sense. Of course, maybe that's why you don't recognize it. And that doesn't even factor in a comparison of opponents, when NDSU is playing a long time foe while UND is hosting someone from Louisiana. Boy, you NDSU fans really get us with that attendance thing, don't you?

I have personally heard both Faison and John Staley, head of the GF Park District, state that UND tennis would be a tenant at the new Choice Financial Wellness Center at Altru Village (except the full name wasn't used). They are in the last stages of fundraising and should break ground before the snow flies this fall.

Probably a trade out for some advertising.

NFL teams can have 45 players active for each game. This total can include their #3 QB if they want to have him available to rotate in and out or play another position. Or they can have 45 active players plus designate another player as the #3 QB. In that case, if the #3 QB enters the game then the other 2 QBs cannot return unless the #3 gets injured. So you are basically right, although there are a couple of additional options.

Mr. Faison talked about an announcement regarding the indoor practice facility coming at Homecoming. In this thread it mentions a big announcement coming on October 8th, the Friday of Homecoming week (the quoted paragraphs are from the latest Alumni News). You could be onto something.

How has the Name Debacle affected alumni donations?
82SiouxGuy replied to BobIwabuchiFan's topic in UND Nickname
Unless something else interferes, UND will be asked to join the Summit League some time after the first of the year. They don't have a need to add someone immediately, and adding UND now or in May will result in UND becoming active at the same time. UND missed the deadline to become an active member July 1, 2011 and will probably be added effective 2012. My guess is that the Summit is waiting to see if Southern Utah gets a place in the Big Sky. If they do UND will fill that slot. Then the Summit has to decide whether to stay at 10 members or go to 12. If Summit doesn't go to the Big Sky, either UND will get the slot in the Big Sky or UND will join the Summit and they will have to find one more team to get to 12. Either way, UND will have a home for all sports with the possible exception of football. Football is another story and that will play out in its own time By the way it is slam, not slamb.. -

I believe that he is referring to these 2 paragraphs (bolding is my emphasis). -
Still better than an obviously false or intentionally misleading statement. Or using a blanket statement that is probably incorrect.
-
Or you can qualify things by saying "some people" or "a lot of us" or "not everyone". Your statement comes across as a pretty general statement that the general opinion of people on SiouxSports about RT and Kupchella is negative.

I think they normally try to arrive by early afternoon on the day before most games. Last year I was at the airport on business as they were leaving between 10 and 11 AM on charters for 2 different games.

Rosenfels is nothing more than a backup quarterback. He was traded for draft choices because they are a valuable trade commodity, even lower round choices. You blew any reason to look at your poll by mentioning the McHale poll, but even without that there is absolutely no way to rank backup quarterbacks throughout the years. But a poll of backups that doesn't include Steve Young might not be too credible. Favre hasn't missed a game yet, so I'm not going to get too worried until he does. As far as the WRs go, again I don't see much of a story. You may not know it, but it's doubtful that Vincent Jackson would be allowed to play until at least game 7. Because he didn't sign before the cutdown time he isn't eligible to play for 3 weeks, plus he has a 3 game suspension to serve after that. That means the soonest he could play would be about the same time that Rice will be available if he heals on schedule. Why trade more assets, plus pay him $7 million (his expected asking price for 1 season) and then probably lose him after the season? That sounds like a bad decision to me. TJ is a possession receiver. So is Greg Camorillo, who they got in a trade recently. Camorillo hasn't dropped a pass in more than a year. You don't need 2 possession receivers fighting over the same catches. So getting TJ, and his disruptive presence, wasn't a great move for the Vikings no matter how cheap the price. Plus, Harvin is as close to 100% as he is ever going to be. His head isn't hurting him at all right now. Fighting migraines will be an ongoing challenge for him throughout his career. But until his next attack, he is the #1 target for Brett.

Ralph brought a little Vegas to Grand Forks, so why not add a little Hollywood?
