My Guess would be Forney, since he didn't dress on Saturday. You would think a recruit would be with a current player watching the game. Also, player's that don't dress are always decked out in a suit. I would find it hard to believe that a recruit would be wearing a suit. But that's just me. Just a shot in the dark.

I'm not gonna sit here and try to defend Joe Finley simply for the fact that I will get blasted...But he's a lot better than anyone on this board thinks. I'm not saying he's a stud or a great player, but I see a lot of glimpses of potential coming from the guy. In Friday's game, did anyone see the hit he put on Skille right around center ice near the penalty box? It was a great open-ice hit and Skille was very slow to get up. Joe came all the way from across the ice and lined him up. A great play IMO. Now, once he starts doing that on a regular basis, players will get the hint more and more often. I know everyone tends to focus on the negatives after dealing with a loss or losses, but watch him an entire game. He does a lot of the little things right IMO. A lot of those things go un-noticed. All anyone remembers is the mistakes and rightfully so, but take a look and watch him once in a while. Your opinion will change of him. Lay off of him.

The 2nd goal that Lamoreux(sp?) gave up was just plain weak. The shot was from the point, wasn't floating, it didn't get tipped, and he had a clear view of it since I sit directly behind the goal. The goalie is the best penalty killer, and if Lamoreux would have made that save, it would have saved a goal obviously while allowing the Sioux to get a line change and their prime face-off man in the circle. He's gotta come up with that puck somehow last night.

For the record, I never said you were insane. I said your comment was insane. That's not a personal attack on you in any way. Settle Down. We moved up in a poll without even playing a legit game last week, does that seem loopy to you or is it just me? That just shows how bad and unreliable some polls are.

Ok, let's try this again....CoteauRinkRat asked you to offer some insight to the discussion instead of constant smack. This discussion is titled "Sioux Men vs. Bemidji St.", yet you come back with a post stating that Winona State won a game last night and have a good chance to win the D-2 title again. Do you see where you went wrong? Because if you don't, I can type slower and a little clearer next time. Good Luck. To correct your post, Winona State has now won 28 games in a row after their 119-38 win over North Central, MN College last night. Who/Where the heck is North Central, MN College/University anyways?

Greene played in the playoffs last year, do a little research. Probably only 10 minutes at the most each game, but that's pretty good for a rookie I would say.
-
Where's Bobby Ryan? He was the 2nd pick of the draft maybe 2 years ago and he can't even crack a U.S. National Team, let alone crack an NHL lineup. Why is every player you you listed either a forward or a goaltender? I would hope that Ottawa doesn't want Lee to turn into a player like the ones you mentioned. Vanek? Did you watch him last year? No, cause he rode the pine in the playoffs when it mattered. This year he started to figure out that he's gotta play both ends of the ice and is flourishing. Stahl? He's 2-3 years into his development in the NHL. Bouchard? Another player with 3 years experience in the NHL who is starting to show some promise in his 2nd and 3rd years. There are always a few exceptions to the rule, like Crosby, Malking, Ovechkin. But how well would these 3 players produce points in the old NHL as a rookie? Their numbers would be way, way, lower. I would think that anyone who follows hockey knows that it takes defenseman the longest to adjust to the NHL game from college. Hell, defensemen are usually the slowest to develop in most leagues, whether it be college, high school, pro, etc...

A team that has 1 loss through 35% of their season isn't good enough for you? They beat and tied an unranked team in Mankato. Mankato isn't nearly as bad as you seem to think they are. Who cares that they are unranked, does it really matter? Being in the bottom half of the WCHA isn't great, but it would get you near the top of a lot of other things. So when a top team "struggles" against an unranked team, yet still wins, they should drop in the polls? That's an insane comment to make. The Facts are the Facts.

I stand corrected. I've been to a lot of the rinks and never really noticed the difference in length so much. According to USCHO, 5 are olympic size(UM, CC, AA, SCSU, Mankato), 1 is close to olympic(UW) and the other 4 are NHL-size rinks or smaller(UND, MTU, DU, UMD).
-
I'm not dis-crediting the Gophers schedule or their current record, but how many of those games have been at home? I think all but the SCSU game as well as the UofMaine game correct? Either way, I just want to see how they handle a good team on the road. We'll see how good they are after a weekend or 2 on the road like that IMO. It's tough to beat Minnesota at home because their olympic ice sheet helps them immensely I believe and a lot of the teams that come into their rink, don't have a olympic facility to practice at. Their team speed is their strength and an olympic rink maximizes that strength. But again, they take advantage of their strengths/assets. More power to them.

Fairly sure that it bounced off of him or got redirected off of him. It was kind of a circus in front of the net at that point and all of a sudden the puck was in.

It's on there...I see what you are looking at, and it's not listed on that window. But that page is probably made up weeks in advance, and since this game was only confirmed on Saturday afternoon, they probably didn't update the page. Like I said, it's on their webpage. Towards the bottom half under the upcoming events section on December 2nd, 2006. GVSU Webpage
-
Here we go....Go to the website that I linked earlier, scroll towards the bottom of the page and it will say upcoming events. Find the Football game(It should be the 1st event under December 2nd), and under the far right hand column under the coverage heading, it says "GT". That should be what you have to click on once you have paid your $6.95 I would think. You get one game for that price, so make sure you pick the football game. You can click on the link right now, and all it states is that the game feed will begin automatically once the game starts.
-
Here's the link, according to the UND Press release: UND-GVSU Internet Game Once you get to the page, it appears you need to click on the far right side of the screen on the "GV Sports Network" Banner and go from there. You gotta register and it costs $6.95 from what I can tell.

The world is not perfect. We should be happy that it's on FSSN. This whole argument about WDAZ dropping the ball is kind of funny. No matter what they do, it will never make everyone happy. Get over it, move on, and find some place that carries FSSN to watch the game.
-
They are playing extremely well right now, but I wanna see the Gophers play a tough team on the road with a good goaltender before I give them a ton of praise. Is that too much to ask?
-
That can't be right, can it?

I didn't mean to make it sound like the national rankings play a role in the selection of the host site. I was just stating the obvious. If you are a top 2 team, you should get to host. Regardless of regional rankings. That was my point. I understand that they both were #1 seeds in their respective regions, but where do you go from there? You have to look at something. It always comes down to money. Let's say UND and GVSU were playing in the national semi's, and GVSU is clearly the number 1 team in the country right now, are you honestly going to send them on the road because they might not draw as much money compared to UND for your company(NCAA)? If that's what is actually happening, then it's rediculous IMO. What does the regular season mean then? Just be good enough to get into the play-offs and then rely on your home attendance drawing power to gain home-field?
-
I thought the rule for the World Jr's. Tournament was that you had to be under the age of 20 through the entire tournament, and since his birthday is 12/23/86, that means he missed it by 2 weeks roughly. Am I mistaken?
-
By just a few days I believe.
-
I don't think that's entirely correct. UND is not guaranteed to host anymore games. Just because we are a higher seed doesn't guarantee us that luxury. Once you get to the National Semi's in D-2 football, you can throw all logic out the window when the NCAA determines which team gets to host. Like someone brought up, the UND-North Alabama game of 2001. How the #1 or #2 ranked team has to travel in the National Semi's is still a mystery to me. I don't care that we could have potentially generated more money than North Alabama, that was extremely unfair for them.

I feel way more confident playing a great offense that has a more conventional offensive set than one that is really hard to prepare for(UNO). GVSU, to me, is a lot like USD's offense where they tend to pass more than run, but are far more dangerous than USD because of their quarterback.
-
I can see why people would be, and should be, disappointed in the number of rushing yards allowed by our defense. But when you only see this type of offense once a year, or in this case twice, it still doesn't make it any easier to defend IMO. I was at the game and there were plenty of times that they would run the option to the near side line and Miller was able to get the pitch off and their running back was off to the races. Other times, it was the result of a busted offensive play that allowed Miller to gain so many yards on the run. The 50-some yard run he had in the 1st half was a result of our secondary locking down on their receivers, but our line didn't close the gap fast enough in the pocket and Miller was off to the races. As you can see by the numbers, it doesn't really matter who Omaha played, they ran the ball at will on every team, not just ours. Also, it seemed to me like the defense was jumping a lot at fakes or mis-direction plays early on. Lennon came over and "politely" reminded the defense after they gave up the 3rd TD in a row in the 1st half to "quit guessing and stay with their responsibilities." That just reinforced what I saw on the field. Maybe a bit over-pursuing, some guessing, and tentativeness on the D's part because of UNO's potent running attack. And that Zach Miller guy is "pretty good". <----Insert sarcasm---->

Being a fully-funded D-1A school doesn't mean you are gonna be tough competition. That's a poor statement to make. That's like looking at their schedule on paper before the season starts, and saying it's going to be the toughest schedule to date for the football team. How good is Ball State? Not very good. Minnesota? Well, it's the same old Minnesota. Minnesota=Mediocre. Being fully-funded doesn't mean you are going to be a more quality opponent. At best it gives you some depth, but that doesn't automatically make you a good team. Also, 2 games don't make a season. You need to look at the entire body of work. Look at Stanford, Mississippi State, Syracuse, Minnesota....how good are those D-1A teams? Not very good. Like I said, I'm not trying to take anything away from their season, because they had a great season and they could possibly win a National Title if they were able to play in the play-offs this year.

I personally think there are better moments at the new Ralph then the Holy Cross-UofM game, but to compare it to Ferris State beating UND at Mariucci is apples to oranges to me. UND wasn't the top seed in the region and obviously weren't playing a massive underdog like Holy Cross. Ferris State did have 30-something wins that year in the CCHA, so they obviously could play. They only true comparison between UND of 2002-2003 and UofM last year is that they were both ending the season on a slide of sorts. But I understand your point. Eventually people do need to move on from this game and understand things like the Holy Cross-UofM game will happen again.
