It is 4-3 Finland after two periods. Matt Greene's penalty that lead to the Finn's 4th goal wouldn't have been roughing in the NHL. Only a pansy would haved called it that way and perhaps Ballard told the referee as much to get his 10 minute misconduct. Hopefully, Zach can find his game in the third and pull this one out. The goalie, John Grahame, needs to improve his game as he has allowed 4 goals on only 16 shots.

Leave it to the IIHF to generate a confusing schedule but in reality it is here's to an all Sioux final game. If the US wins they will play Russian and if Canada wins they will play Sweden.

Why don't you personally put this whole issue to bed for us, once and for all. Get on the phone to Ed Belfour and ask him what was he thinking when he recruited Greico for UND. After all, how could the Eagle know as much about goaltending as you do.

Commodore and Toews are with team Canada

The famous Mr. Ed?

Scroll back and read the original thread to see that MacKenzie said several years from now he will be the most complete player in the NHL, not now. Now back to the game or should I say the Eric Staal show as he has had the puck on a string today.
-
If you had seen the TSN segment, Bob MacKenzie wasn't trying to claim that Toews would ever challenge Crosby for the overall scoring title. Even the great Gretzky was not the most complete player of his era, as he didn't typically kill penalties, block shots etc. The complete players of that era were the Trottiers, Messiers and Yzermans. The discussion even noted that Toews already handles pressure and interviews better than most. Additionally, if you had watched the Ottawa series carefully you would have seen several Crosby defensive errors that lead to Ottawa goals, so hardly a complete player. In my own opinion Toews is a more intelligent player than Crosby and I have never seen anyone else in college hockey who was better at getting in really tight to the net and scoring roof-daddy goals.

It will be an 11:15 start for those of you in Grand Forks, 12:15 in the East, so I am going to sneak away from work with some buddies this afternoon to watch it at the local sports bar. It is a good opportunity for Team USA as Team Canada could be exhausted from their tough OT win over the Czech's yesterday.

There was alot of discussion regarding Toews and his future on TSN yesterday. Some of the analysts wondered if Dale Tallon is offering Toews all of the contract incentives he clearly deserves. At the end of the discussion MacKenzie blew all of the other analysts away by declaring that within several years Toews will be the most "complete player" in the NHL. Another analyst asked him better than Crosby, his answer was yes with the emphasis being on the "complete" as in his opinion he has never seen such a young player who is so good at all aspects of the game.

Just finished watching Canada play Belarus, and Toews was solid again with a goal and an assist in a 6-3 Canada win. Commodore had an assist as well. Of course the pro-Russian referee did his best to keep his Russian league players from Belarus in the game by conveniently providing them four 5 on 3 PPs and let half of their infractions go. Oh well what are you going to do when the tournament is in Russia. It was just like the Sioux having to play in Gopher land with their favorite referee calling the game.
-
It would seem that the Gophers and Russians really do have alot in common. Check out the World Championship schedule link and scroll down to the end of the page. For the playoff rounds it would appear that the Russians are always guaranteed to play in their chosen time slot regardless of how they finish in the standings. http://www.iihf.com/Hydra/Tournaments_07/o.../113/index.html

Huh? The Spartans were Greek and the image on the Ottawa Jersey is definitely that of a Roman. I agree that the image isn't that of a Roman Senator. The helmet suggests that he is a Centurion, but do you honestly think the team should have selected a fat guy in a toga and head wreath as their logo instead?

Bochenski is having a great game against the Slovaks today with a goal and an assist half way through the game and the US is up 4-1. The Slovaks seem to be gassed having played the late game against Canada yesterday. Final: US wins 4-2

Per the explanation in this link he is still eligible to return to university and finish out his eligibility. http://www.cfl.ca/index.php?module=newser&...y&nid=16141 Being drafted by the CFL doesn't preclude him from sigining with any other league but given that his dad was a CFL star I suspect I will be watching him play for my Alouettes in a couple of years from now.

In today's Canadian Football League draft, Donovan Alexander was selected in the third round by the Montreal Alouettes. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/feature/?fid=6685

I was hoping they would give him player of the game but it went to his linemate Nash. Oh well, still an outstanding game from the 19 year old. At least TSN recognized his great play on the third goal. He must enjoy wearing the black alternate jerseys. http://www.tsn.ca/canadian_hockey/news_sto...66&hubname=

I am surprised on how complete a game Canada is generating today as I was a little nervous after their first two against weaker opponents. The addition of Phaneuf to the blueline seems to have been a big factor. Toews is moving the puck like a Pro so unfortunately Chicago fans must be drooling. Now 4-2 Canada As an aside, apparently after only two seasons, Cogliano has left Michigan to sign with Edmonton. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=206355&hubname=

He was probably waiting for the officials to blow the whistle which is what they will do if you lose your helmet in either junior international or college hockey. He kept playing after he lost his helmet instead of heading to the bench.

Correct, Canada will only add one more player from the current playoff round and it will likely be a forward. Based on the team's play thus far Toews will likely continue playing for the remainder of the tournament. Remember what Hrkac did immediately following a stint with Team Canada at the Olympics. I am hoping for an encore performance.
-
It was, Toews, Nash and Doan are the number one line and are thrown on as the first PP unit.
-
Toews is still playing because so many players said no to Steve Yzerman following their teams elimination from the NHL playoffs. No one is expecting very much from this team but it should be a great experience for JT regardless. Right now they are getting outplayed by Norway. Ouch! Score is 1-1
-
Toews played on the number one line and although they were held scoreless he didn't look out of place. Commodore took a highstick in the chin late in the game and I think he forgot what tournament he was in because he hopped up and challenged the German who did it to a fight. The German declined his invitation

No but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express this week. A couple of the games were broadcast on TSN and based on the hype I guess I was expecting to see a lot more from him. If that is the best he could do against the best players his own age, he is not going to be at the same level as a Toews or Kessel. It is always possible that he just had a bad week, maybe an injury or illness was involved. However, the ranking that placed him number one was made before this tournament so it was a bad time to look very average with all the scouts watching.

So you post as both PCM and Siouxtatoo42 I will add one more thing on the subject. Regardless of the law and how anyone fells about it this sentence could be very bad with respect to competing with the CHL for Canadian talent in the future. If I am trying to convince a a kid to stay in Canada and play junior hockey don't think I wouldn't say look at what they did to Jonathan Toews for enjoying a couple of beers with his friends.
