In today's Canadian Football League draft, Donovan Alexander was selected in the third round by the Montreal Alouettes. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/feature/?fid=6685

I was hoping they would give him player of the game but it went to his linemate Nash. Oh well, still an outstanding game from the 19 year old. At least TSN recognized his great play on the third goal. He must enjoy wearing the black alternate jerseys. http://www.tsn.ca/canadian_hockey/news_sto...66&hubname=

I am surprised on how complete a game Canada is generating today as I was a little nervous after their first two against weaker opponents. The addition of Phaneuf to the blueline seems to have been a big factor. Toews is moving the puck like a Pro so unfortunately Chicago fans must be drooling. Now 4-2 Canada As an aside, apparently after only two seasons, Cogliano has left Michigan to sign with Edmonton. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=206355&hubname=

He was probably waiting for the officials to blow the whistle which is what they will do if you lose your helmet in either junior international or college hockey. He kept playing after he lost his helmet instead of heading to the bench.

Correct, Canada will only add one more player from the current playoff round and it will likely be a forward. Based on the team's play thus far Toews will likely continue playing for the remainder of the tournament. Remember what Hrkac did immediately following a stint with Team Canada at the Olympics. I am hoping for an encore performance.
-
It was, Toews, Nash and Doan are the number one line and are thrown on as the first PP unit.
-
Toews is still playing because so many players said no to Steve Yzerman following their teams elimination from the NHL playoffs. No one is expecting very much from this team but it should be a great experience for JT regardless. Right now they are getting outplayed by Norway. Ouch! Score is 1-1

Toews played on the number one line and although they were held scoreless he didn't look out of place. Commodore took a highstick in the chin late in the game and I think he forgot what tournament he was in because he hopped up and challenged the German who did it to a fight. The German declined his invitation

No but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express this week. A couple of the games were broadcast on TSN and based on the hype I guess I was expecting to see a lot more from him. If that is the best he could do against the best players his own age, he is not going to be at the same level as a Toews or Kessel. It is always possible that he just had a bad week, maybe an injury or illness was involved. However, the ranking that placed him number one was made before this tournament so it was a bad time to look very average with all the scouts watching.

So you post as both PCM and Siouxtatoo42 I will add one more thing on the subject. Regardless of the law and how anyone fells about it this sentence could be very bad with respect to competing with the CHL for Canadian talent in the future. If I am trying to convince a a kid to stay in Canada and play junior hockey don't think I wouldn't say look at what they did to Jonathan Toews for enjoying a couple of beers with his friends.
-
As a Canadian, I think your many laws would be a whole lot easier to accept and understand if they truly were applied equally and fairly to all. We all get to watch the many exceptions that are made for US celebrities on our TV sets as well, inlcuding crimes as extreme as murder. If you want to compare an 18 year old man who due to his culture and heritage has likely been drinking wine with his meals for several years now with sex offenders then you truly have my pity. Maybe someday soon I will be watching you in a Borat sequel.
-
Perhaps you should take up French Canadian Heritage with Toews, Lammy and the Parises the next time you get a chance.
-
Sorry to put a damper on this thread, but I suspect he has been invited as a form of insurance for Team Canada in case too many NHL players should happen to decline the invitation following the completion of the first round of the playoffs. Based on what happens tonight, the likes of Crosby, Staal, Roberts and Recchi could be added to Team Canada's lineup tomorrow.

Until today I didn't believe any of the previous posts regarding an early departure by Brian Lee, now I am not so sure. A local newspaper, the Ottawa Citizen, has reported that Ottawa may be looking to move Wade Redden's big salary following the 2007 playoffs. Apparently Edmonton is the likely destination which is the closest NHL franchise with respect to his hometown of Lloydminister. In support of this theory; Craig McTavish and Charlie Huddy have been taking in the games in the current Senators/Penguins series. Given that Ottawa's number one D pairing has become Volchenkov and Phillips, IMHO this story is believable.
-
I believe he has the same advisors as EJ and JJ, Dee Rizzo and Pat Brisson.
-
No big deal as Bayda had the same status for a good portion of the Cane's season.
-
Mike Commodore will play for Team Canada at the World Championship in Russia later this month. http://www.tsn.ca/canadian_hockey/news_sto...99&hubname=
-
That sounds more reasonable.
-
Who told you that. I would think that Lapointe is a much more likely addition to the team.
-
" ... whip it good! ... "
-
It truly is and right after I posted I recalled that Hamilton is in the mix so if no one leaves early the team would only add Trupp and Lapointe. Next season could be phenomenal!
-
A great news day for next season, I can't wait for October. The only question this raises is how may of the current recruits will be willing and able to wait another year to join the team. If Toews stays for 8, I would think that Trupp and Lapointe are the only two definite additions, and maybe Malone
-
There is still no agreement between the NHL and Russian Hockey so it all depends on how quickly they want to get their draft pick signed. I would bet on Kane being selected first overall too but don't count Turris out of the equation. Bucky will be sweating bullets if Turris gets selected by the LA Kings.

I have yet to see a plausible explanation of how anyone would replace Lee with someone better for next season. How many of you hockey intellects who want him gone can name teams that have won the national title with a D that is led primarily Sophomores and Freshmen. It doesn't happen because good D-men who can play mistake free hockey take longer to develop. While Lee didn't meet some of the lofty fan expectations, he is still a very good DI player and I look forward to bigger and better things from the whole Sioux D over the next two seasons.
