First Period, Lee will spot Watkins in full flight, put it right on the tape to send him in all alone on Miami Goaltender Steve Hartley. Watkins will beat him glove side and Hartley will realize that he is better suited to follow in his dad's footsteps (Robert Hartley, Atlanta Coach)

I have to try and make this one as it is only 7 hours from Ottawa. I should make the Saturday game and the Friday game depends on my wife's schedule. Any recommended hotels or post-game suggestions yet?

Wishful thinking on your part Sagard as all of Toews numbers indicate that he will score like Parise and will be a more complete package to boot. He was the top player at last years U17 and how about comparing his scoring to that of Parise while at SSM (nearly identical). You can have your little hot-shot media hog while we get a hockey player

#$%& NHL has still learned nothing from the damage of the strike as the draft this coming weekend will be a closed door event (invitation only) at the Westin Hotel. Now that I am in Ottawa I was hoping to attend the event at the Corel Center and I was going to wear my Sioux Jersey and shout my support for Lee. Way to think of the fans once again Bettman you sawed-off loser!

DMT provided the updated and final Central Scouting List for North American skaters. Keeping in mind that Toews will be a first round pick next year, the talent and potential of this inbound Sioux class is mind-boggling

Unless the NHL plans to change the draft eligibility rules, once drafted, college players are exempt from the two year signing rule until they complete their education or indicate they are leaving college hockey, at which point the two year clock kicks in.

This Team Canada conspiracy thread seems to a popular one with certain members of this chat as it resurfaces several times each season. Perhaps there are certain elements within Major Junior Hockey who would like to see elite players punished for going the college route. Probably the same team executives who have lost some of those players. However, as others and I have stated before Hockey Canada wants nothing short of Gold and will take the best available players regardless of what league they come from. If there hadn't been an NHL strike last year, Zajac would have played for the Canadian Junior team in Grand Forks. College players will continue to play for Team Canada and you will get to watch the likes of Toews and BC's Bertram don the Red and White in the very near term.

Thank goodness I know French because the translation was too painful

The story in the link puts an end to the Esposito saga. http://www.tsn.ca/chl/news_story.asp?id=128506

As far as big players like Wheeler go you never know what you are going to get because they are slower to develop. Wheeler could be the next Cam Neely who didn't break out until his was 21 or he could be the next Jason Bonsignore, a total bust.

Actually, I think Mueller is destined to be a typical Gopher. I recall him getting tossed from the most recent U18 game against the Swiss for a very dirty hit from behind. He should fit right into Lucy's lineup.

No need to wait for Canuck's response. Since Sutter will be the coach again this year half-checks will not be tolerated by Team Canada.
-
Toews will play in the U18 tournament this summer. Don't be surprised if he gets an invite to the Canadian Junior team as well. The UAA series could be a challenge if the Sioux are minus all five players.

NCAA top 30 prospects for 2005 NHL draft
Sioux_Hab-it replied to Superman0099's topic in Men's Hockey
This list is merely one of undrafted NCAA Freshmen. Thanks to this years NHL strike, next years article will read: 1. Toews 2. Lee 3. Oshie 4. Chorney . . . . . . 30. Kessel -
UAA must have known of Hill's intentions for awhile; otherwise, they wasted little time in hiring his replacement, Dave Shyiak from NMU. Details within the link. http://www.uscho.com/news/2005/06/14_010637.php

Hmmm, can't beat Alaska so let's hire their coach.

As I have said before, Canada is never satisfied within anything less than a gold in hockey therefore, I always knew Toews would be included. However, I am confused as to why they have invited a useless plug like the Goofer's UpChucko to their Junior Evaluation Camp this summer.
-
Actually, he would have been on Canada's U18 team at the most recent World Championships but Shattuck's playoff schedule precluded him from attending the preparation training camp.
-
Glad to hear his is putting his golden education to good use.
-
They don't, its just that Major Junior Teams make an owner more money because you will attract a similar sized crowd and you don't have the pro salaries and travel expenses to shell out.
-
I still think the incoming class has way more talent and potential than any previous class and they will have the added benefit of solid goaltending behind them. I can't wait to see them play.
-
I think the big difference for both Colorado schools over the past decade has been the quality of the Goalies and the D-Men they have recruited, many of which they pluck from junior hockey in BC and the Canadian Prairies. Come to think of it the Sioux haven't done too bad in that department either with the likes of Commodore and Roche.
-
Actually, this story just confirms everything you believed to be true. However, several members in this chat have thought otherwise about his hockey intentions and which school he might wind up at in 2006. I only mentioned the story to help put any NCAA speculation to rest.

As an aside, it looks like Shattuck's Esposito has decided to go play Major Junior for the Quebec Remparts. I would be shocked if they traded up to get him with a first round draft pick unless they had some kind of a firm commitment. http://www.tsn.ca/chl/news_story.asp?id=126970

Don't tell me you slept or drank your way through what could have been an education.
