NDSU to move to FBS with an invite from the Sun Belch?
FargoBison replied to SiouxVolley's topic in NCAA News
I get what you are saying but GSU was probably the worst Sun Belt team you could have picked since we kind of have a long distance love affair with them. They came to the dome twice in the playoffs, Bison fans would love to play GSU every year. The others probably not so much. -

Right now NDSU buses to USD and SDSU, that is it. So yeah things wouldn't change much. -

I think Herby is somewhat wrong. If NDSU gets the right opportunity they should go, if not they should stay. I am not sure if the Sun Belt is the right opportunity, I guess though if it did happen the other sports could stay in the Summit which would keep costs down. A major issue looming for NDSU football is the fact that the program can not find FBS opponents to play them. That will hurt recruiting, exposure and revenue if it doesn't change. -
UNI was 7-5 last year, they beat a Big 12 team and crushed a seeded playoff team. Hard to have a stronger resume then that, instead the committee went with powder puff South Carolina State who beat nobody of significance.
-
7-5 teams do not make the playoffs, see UNI from last year. That said maybe you could get there if Molberg and your offense can figure things out. The sky is very soft at the middle and bottom this year. and your defense is playing with an edge.
-
The MVFC is in the pilot phase right now, which means that replay is only at certain venues. WIU for example doesn't have it. Next year though it will be expanded conference wide.
-
Well the week before they were blown out by Utah and before that Notre Dame shut them out. Michigan was better under Rich Rod then they are now, at least then they had a dynamic offense.
-
Well the MVFC has video review....Get with the times Big Sky.
-
A case could be made that they will have the best football facilities I guess. Their IPF sounds amazing and they are building a new stadium. That said Frost is starting to show its age. I'd still put them behind both NDSU and UND.
-
But it would be less accessible, right now NDSU can blanket its home region with games that can be easily watched and with Midco that isn't as easy. The Summit has a TV deal with Midco, which means NDSU gets a few basketball games put on their network, KVLY also televises some basketball games on their main network(it isn't all MeTV). I don't think basketball is really hurting that much. I'm not saying NDSU wouldn't move to Midco but to get NDSU to move, Midco would have to step up with a very solid offer.
-
I'm sure Midco would love to get NDSU athletics but the check they would be cutting to get it would be large. NDSU football pulls in massive ratings in Fargo and statewide, KVLY has been very good to NDSU as well. Right now everyone in ND and northwestern MN that has a TV can watch NDSU football, that is hard to move away from.

For one...since when did Montana join the FBS? I don't think Fulerton has enacted Siouxvolley's master plan yet. Also Oregon did bad things to USD, UNI played very competitive games with their FBS opponents. Neither is on Oregon's level obviously but hard to knock a team for being very competitive. I have them at #14 in my AGS poll btw and it wouldn't be hard to make a case to rank them higher.

Every game is sold out and on TV. Fans are paying record ticket prices and a high premium just to tailgate. The scheduling model of buying home games has worked well and he only needs to find one more game for 2015 and one for 2016. He doesn't need to schedule the game, he can be selective as to who he wants to play.
-
Because Gene has zero motivation to schedule the game right now. NDSU holds all the cards and if UND wants to get back on his good side they give a little to make it happen. But like I said before both sides have too much pride to give up anything and a playoff game is the only way a game will be played.
-
The H&H with Weber only happened because we had six home games for 2014 and needed to bank one for 2015. It was an opportunity created by being able to play 12 games this year and didn't happen until it was clear we didn't need another home game. I do agree Gene doesn't want to play the game, he is making an offer that he knows BF and Bubba won't accept. That said he has to make an offer or Bismarck might schedule the game for him. I think the only way for the game to happen is if it is a playoff game or UND gives up something in return(like by accepting a 2 for 1).

Both schools are great, both alumni bases raise a ton of money and both schools have academic and athletic accomplishments to be proud about. Saying that isn't so hard, not sure why it is so tough for other people. I've never understood why people feel the need to tear each other down academically, it is just stupid. As for the game, be mad at Gene but he is only doing what he thinks is best for NDSU. That is his job and he has done it well. Take his offer, don't take it, whatever I don't care. Both schools have too much pride to give any ground so the only way this happens is a playoff game.
-
No strings attached with playing Montana, no pressure to schedule them ever again if we don't want to. That isn't the case with UND and it will never be the case.
-
I am not sure why it is so hard to understand that NDSU's scheduling philosophy means that we play very few home and homes. The entire model is built around paying teams to come to Fargo for one game. Occasionally a home and home is sprinkled in when it involves a team of interest(Montana) or the opportunity presents itself to play a home and home in a 12 game season and still have six home games(Weber State).
-
We played twice, had a home and home. Only so many non-conference games we can schedule Darell, opportunities are limited because we want six home games and one FBS
-
We had six home games already locked up, that gave us the opportunity to find a home and home that started on the road so we could bank a home game for a future season. This isn't that difficult. We want six home games and an FBS game every year. That is the goal. The home and home with Weber State was a means to get closer to that objective.
-
Why should it haunt GT? Weber is one of the schools that helped us out in our time of need when we needed games during transition. The fact that we already had 6 home games locked up created a home and home opportunity, I'm glad we worked out a deal with them. NDSU has honored every contract, not sure Gene has much to worry about in regards to credibility.

The Summit is very solid in softball, worlds better than the Big Sky. Summit baseball is a mess, but Oral Roberts will fix that at least at the top.
-
Wrestling, Lacrosse, Hockey, FCS football....it is all DI. The NCAA designates them all as being DI. Not sure why this needs to be so complicated for some people.
-
Well it is hard to play him over LA, Brown or Braun. But when he played he constantly showed flashes of being capable of doing some good things, I think he will flourish with minutes.
