  1. Omaha gets them about as much of the Omaha market as UMKC gives them the KC market. It makes no sense for a basketball driven league to add a hockey school that has never been anything more than above average at basketball. Milwaukee makes some sense but that athletic department is a mess. They did win with Ryan and Pearl though, the potential is at least there and Wisconsin would be a nice state to get into. A lot more basketball talent there then Nebraska.
  2. A league with the Montana's and Idaho sounds great but I imagine the hard part would be selling it to Montana and getting them on board. NDSU-UND SDSU-USD Omaha-Denver Montana-Montana State Idaho-EWU NMSU-Weber State You could quickly build a mid-major basketball conference that would easily rival the MVC and of course be a premiere FCS league with FBS potential.
  3. Yeah, seems like it will be just those two. Probably not a big impact on the Summit unless the Horizon does something unexpected.
  4. Mankato should look at DI, mid major hoops could be their niche. But they would need to pull an Omaha to make it work and that isn't an easy undertaking. WIU will never be in the Horizon, that league covets big markets and Macomb makes Brookings look like Chicago. The OVC is really the only place I could see them going to and I am not sure either party has a lot of interest in that move.
  5. One guy was a walk on, two of the others were not going to play(some of it was out their control with injuries), Khy is the real surprise.
  6. The Summit would be better off trading it's eastern flank for a western flank but I'm not sure how that all goes down. You can't even approach the topic of football until you have 8-10 schools committed. I don't know if the Montana schools would want to bolt even though they would be better off. The Big Sky has so much dead weight.
  7. The arena is undergoing a massive renovation, it should be more than adequate. The NCAA has basically stopped putting regional finals in domes, they now prefer to have them in NBA arenas.
  8. For now none of the schools are going anywhere, too much NCAA tournament money sitting on the table. It could happen down the road depending on what happens with the MVC.
  9. Looking at what is going on with the SD schools, the day is coming soon where the basketball coach will be making in the same ballpark as the football coach no matter what league NDSU is in. Unless the football program goes FBS, which I don't see happening anytime soon.
  10. If NDSU got an invite to the MVC, I don't think there would be much to think about but I'm still very skeptical to say the least about it happening.
  11. NDSU did have some decent crowds in SF for 2 of the title games, the other three SDSU fans bought up most of the tickets. The Summit tournament is really setup poorly for traveling fans, I wish the conference did it more like Arch Madness but that would require changing some things on the TV side.
  12. NMSU would be a good add but they would be a constant flight risk but probably a risk worth taking. I wouldn't mind adding one MN school, that said any of those schools would likely need to pull an Omaha to make it work. UNC also has a football issue. I wonder how Denver would feel about GCU, a big push for them to join the Summit was because GCU joined the WAC.
  13. UMKC maybe, seems like the WAC is getting too expensive for them.
  14. I doubt Gonzaga wants them back in WCC...That is their stomping grounds.
  15. Yeah, I'm not too worried about women's hockey ever being demanded in a survey.
  16. Only way NDSU will ever have a women's hockey team is if the school has a men's team. We'll never have a men's team for that very reason.
  17. Does every women's hockey program just lose tons of money? Or is it only the schools that try to compete?
  18. Yep....Just look at MBB. 1.4 million people watched UND-AZ in the big dance....But I guess women's hockey and its 209 fans deserve a bigger budget because of Olympians or something like that. Rival fan here but your admin made a very wise move today, a decision that I doubt previous admins would have had the guts to make.
  19. There will be an afternoon session and a later session.
  20. Looks like about a $400k budget cut for NDSU athletics...
  21. I think only the CAA would be of interest to them.
  22. I think the school is attracting better students, the school could probably have a bigger enrollment if it had a better infrastructure. I think the community has invested a lot more in NDSU as well. The school certainly has a much more recognizable profile nationally.
  23. SDSU has spent a lot of money investing in football, I mean just look at their current facilities...probably the best in the region. NDSU put a ton into basketball, when it moved up it had coaches like Tim Miles that could recruit and the NCAA tournament gave them something real to sell. You need to leave DII in the past, it is a different world now.
  24. Was the NCC MBB title game on ESPN2 and WBB game on ESPNU? Going DI was about increased exposure and playing more peer schools, at least that is what it was for in regards NDSU and the move has certainly delivered that.
  25. Looks like he hasn't given up yet... http://csnbbs.com/thread-806563-post-14027829.html#pid14027829
