  1. Just got back from Vermillion. Wow, what a great game. One of the most entertaining games I've ever been to. But..................... Either one of two things: 1) UND just proved they can go on the road into a hostile environment and win against a talented team that almost never loses at home. This would perhaps build us momentum as we head into the playoffs giving me a hopeful outlook as we begin the journey to Florence, the road to which will surly wind through difficult places such as Omaha or Allendale. or 2) UND just turned in one of the worst defensive performances that I've seen in recent memory, on the last week of the season. Our defensive line got man-handled by an offensive line that was obliterated by UNO a week ago (who by coincidence also shoved our D-line around like they were cardboard cut-outs in our own house this year). If it was not known already, the gaping hole in our defense was exposed yesterday. I have little confidence that our defense can stop UNO or GVSU. So which theory should I subscribe to? Oh yeah, their were 6 Scandanavians protesting the nickname yesterday.
  2. He needs to do something. Either pick one or bring someone else in. These last two years of UND football have been the two worst Sioux defenses that I can recall in years.
  3. Last winter, shortly after Minnesota announced their profound resolution, UND baseball coach Kelvin Zeigler mentioned a few of the teams he's scheduled so far for the next couple years and Minnesota was one of them.
  4. Nah, you should do it. That'll make it easier for us to spot you at the game. Probably make for a great avatar too.
  5. UND posted those open dates on the AFCA site 2 months before it was announced that the University was going Division I. They likely knew way before the announcement of course, but it begs the question, were those open dates originally intended for 3 DII non-conference games in addition to the 8 NCC games we would have played in 2008 making for an 11 game schedule? In April of '06 it wasn't yet known for sure if UND would join the GWFC, and even if they did one would presume they'd be looking for alot more than 3 games at that time for 2008 given the fact that at most there would be a maximum of only 4 guaranteed GWFC games. FWIW, on the AFCA site UC-Davis and Montana St. have open dates corresponding with those listed for UND in 2008. Although UC-Davis' openings were posted in late August, and with UND accepting the invite to the GWFC in early August, I'd suspect that UND is already on their schedule. I think there was already an article sited in this thread on that.
  6. I agree that of the potential candidates being thrown around early on so far that Purpur would be my first choice. He has the combination of being a UND grad with local ties, and years of administrative experience at a DI university. On another note, I'm not advocating for him in any way nor would I likely support him, but I'm a little surprised nobody has tossed out the name Rich Glas. He fits perfectly the popular mold of being a UND icon with no administrative experience.
  7. He's probably refering to this. No, that is just an urban legend. Stenjhem and O'Keefe made that abundantly clear the day the settlement was announced.
  8. Yeah, Huseby is a joke. I feel bad for the Game & Fish guy that is on with her once a week. I'm not an outdoors-man, but those type of oriented shows usually do pretty good in any market. She basically makes a mockery of it on the air because she has no knowledge about nor interest in the subject. She should read the news and give the time & temp, that is about all the talent she has will allow for. I wish they'd take her off, and put Jared Thomas back on. She's on 1310 KNOX in the afternoon from 2:00 to 5:00.
  9. Dan Hammer said on his radio show today that Iowa has also reconsidered their policy and is now open to scheduling UND.
  10. I prefer that UND play the best competition that they can.
  11. I think we'll probably finish 3rd, and host one 1st round playoff game, probably against Winona St.
  12. I'll be there! UNO's offensive line pushed around the USD D-line like they were tin cans. I foresee more of the same next week. Sioux by 17
  13. The only thing I've heard about next year so far is a full Great West schedule plus St. Cloud St. I think the idea of playing any team, even the Coyotes, twice in the same season sounds like a lame idea. Although I do think the two schools need to work together to market games between one another in all sports.
  14. The Ladies are ranked #1 in the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Poll
  15. As a farmer, I'm offended by the thought of this. My people will not stand for this.
  16. The reason I would be in favor of no nickname if the Fighting Sioux is discontinued is because to me, "retiring" the nickname is alot different than "replacing" it. I hold the Fighting Sioux name in too high of regard to be comfortable with the idea of simply allowing the name and what it means to me and surely countless others to be swept under the rug under the guise of a potential community "Name the University Contest". It is just a nickname, I know, but it means something to me. If tribal consent cannot be obtained, then "retiring" it rather than "replacing" it would be the only option that would allow the name to still live on in some way, shape, or form. One of the great things about the Fighting Sioux is the fact that it is unique. Well, having no official nickname is also unique. The NCAA and the tribes can take the official nickname from the school if they so choose, but they can't take the passion that I feel for the name away. The football team is known as the Fighting Sioux, but the offensive line is called the "Hogs". Dale Lennon said on last week's coaches show that he doesn't know how the name got started but it has endured and been passed on for years since the 70's. I want the Fighting Sioux name to endure and be passed on. If some new generic name like the River Rats is adopted, that will not allow Fighting Sioux to endure. The school may not be able to market the name in the future, but the fans, students, and alumni can still carry it on if they are allowed to. I feel that having no official nickname would induce an environment for UND to still be referred to by fans, students, alumni, and the community and state as the Fighting Sioux. Similar to how the Montreal Canadiens are often referred to as the Habs, the Pittsburgh Pirates often called the Bucs, or the Harvard Crimson often referred to as the Cantabs. Adopting a new name will make our generation the last to know the Fighting Sioux.
  17. I don't know, the playoff picture is a long ways from set. UNO and USD both have very tough games over the next two weeks. UNO, granted a great team, always plays well against UND so it was no big surprise that they left GF with a win. Over the past few years USD has given them more trouble than anyone and it usually hasn't mattered whether they play in Vermillion or Omaha. Then UNO has to travel to CWU. I think that will be their toughest test of the entire regular season. Just to muddy things up a bit, I'm hoping that USD throttles UNO this week and we crush USD next week. Oh yeah, and GVSU plays only the second decent team on their schedule this week when they travel to Saginaw. And UND probably can't finish higher than 3rd, but I'm hoping that if they can't move up that they finish 4th. Whoever gets the #3 seed is more than likely going to host Winona St. in the first round.
  18. I think having no nickname at all is hands down the best alternative if the Fighting Sioux is retired.
  19. Due to the level of my blood-pressure, I will not comment nor read posts in this thread on this potential "settlement". However I will say now that if what the early reports on the radio are indicative of what the "settlement" may include, I am disappointed with the University, the State, and the Attourney General.
  20. I've seen both teams play twice, but only on TV. Not taking anything away from NDSU as they are obviously having a nice undefeated season, just my personal opinion.
  21. I've watched Iowa State and Minnesota both a couple times this year, and Iowa State is better that the Goofs. They have a better record in the Big 10 to prove it. I'm sure there is plenty of talk down in Iowa about UNI just like there is here about NDSU. When UNI beat ISU there was lots of buzz about it as well. It happens whenever a I-AA beats a I-A, and especially when a foe from a major I-A conference goes down like they did in these two cases. Personally, I think UNI is currently the best team in FCS, no disrespect to NDSU. And it has nothing to do with the fact that the Sioux beat them a year ago, because that was a different team.
  22. Thanks for the heads up Hammer!
  23. Ugghh! Another pass-happy team, ala Minnesota State, WWU. Whatever happened to good old smashmouth NCC football? When Bubba went to Duluth and made the playoffs his first year, I thought UMD was going to be one of the top 2 or 3 teams in the NCC every year, but it just hasn't happened. I can't beleive they still have no running game. Bubba will have them ready for us though, he knows our programs. Still, I say Sioux by 20. UND 50 UMD 30
