Blah Blah Blah. You guys that are content with just "being there" are the same people who want every single kid to get a trophy in sports. There are WINNERS and there are LOSERS, no matter how much you hippes want to give everyone a trophy, cookie, and a "atta boy" just for TRYING.
Hakstol, has done NOTHING that special since he's been here. His first few years he had Blais's teams that I COULD HAVE COACHED to the playoffs and FF. Bochenski, Parise, Toews, Oshie, Duncan, on and on and on and on.
He had SUPERIOR TALENT and at the end of the day came home with as many Championships (what programs like UND are judged by except by you liberal "happy to be there" clowns) as Michigan Tech and Alaska Anchorage have in the last decade.
Give me a NATIONAL TITLE and 11 bad seasons any day of the week over "Making the playoffs" and CHOKING every single damn year.
Although, that's so HARSH, especially for you "rah rah rah, never say anything negative about our Sioux, rah rah rah" fans.
I don't want to get into how much I disagree with your post and opinion but I do want to point out that you should get your facts straight before posting this bs. Hak never coached Parise (unless you mean Jordan) or Bochenski. They both left the same year Blais did. Lastly, you can have your 11 bad seasons and one national championship but I will take consistency. I would certainly like a national championship and I have no doubt one will come but I certainly enjoy watching a nationally competitve team year-in and year-out.

MacWilliams hit was definitely clean. Hockey is getting screwed by people who can't take a hit anymore. You might as well keep your head down from now on because if you get leveled with your head down you'll draw a penalty. Just stupid
100% agree with you here. I've been saying it for a while now that you might as well skate with your head down because if someone drills you, like they should, you end up drawing a penalty and a lot of times a major. All the majors being called produces way to many flops and way too many players turning to draw them. The first Sioux penalty on Panzarella was a perfect example of a player knowing the hit will be coming and turning to draw a penalty.

Oh of course and I agree with this million percent! 2 of my all time favorite sioux d men! Just when a player like jones comes along and that the Sioux are actually a player is impressive with today's age of recruiting.
Any others out there around the area or anywhere that the Sioux are looking at for those in the know? We seem to have some big time d talent in the waiting with or without jones but adding him is a game changer in many ways
I've read that Ian McCoshen, who was mentioned earlier in this thread I believe, has narrowed his choices to five schools with UND being the frontrunner at this point. He is a big strong physical d-man that would fit right in with the style of Sioux defensemen. He would be a very nice get. This info is coming from a Wisconsin fan who is in the know much more than I.

Bjugstad is the real deal. He's huge, a good skater and had a nose for the back of the net. He will be playing in the NHL in the next year or two. As to the debate of the best college prospect, I still think Jaden Schwartz is a beast waiting to break out, although he hasn't really lit the world on fire this year. And Brock Nelson is in that conversation too, though he still needs 25 pounds of muscle before he's nhl ready imo.
I agree with you here. Bjugstad is definitely the real deal and as of right now the better player than Nelson. Nelson is definitely a great player but to call him grittier is a tough argument. He may play grittier than Bjugstad but it is difficult to tell since Bjugstad is stronger at this stage. Nelson gets knocked off the puck quite easily still but will get better with added strength and weight. I agree with buckysieve in that the only college forward who I have seen that is as ready as Bjugstad for the NHL is Krieder from BC.

Looks like he has committed. He has some buddies congratulating him on committing to UND. This is a real big pickup.
I'm guessing this will be one of those battles for the next couple years between UND and the CHL. There will be lots of rumors both ways before he makes his way to campus in a few years. We are due to win one.

I didn't know that. He is only 16. Seems so young.
In all honesty, it would certainly be nice to land Jones especially after losing two blue-chip recruits to the CHL recently but how much will he help if he is a one and done. I don't think a 17 year-old freshman d-man will be all that great of a benefit even though he is a potential high first round pick. It would certainly be nice to have a high profile guy spurn the CHL for UND but to me it is only worth while if he plays at least 2 years of college. Either way I think it's a moot point since I think he is headed to the CHL.

Number one they need to get healthy. It is obvious how badly this team needs Grimaldi healthy. Hopefully this weekend off helps and they get O'Donnell back. I think I split Knight and Kristo up and try Kristo with Nelson whom he played with quite a bit last year. Another thing and I know its tough to do with all the forward injuries and such little depth but I want to see Gleason back on D. I think he has a chance to create more offense from there than at forward. I may try something like this.

I hate to say it but I just don't like any option for that last guy on the fourth line. It might have to be Gleason. Maybe suit 7 D and spot the fourth line but have Gleason take a regular shift at D?

The sad reality of the situation is this is a must split series at a minimum. If the Sioux are swept they would go 1-5 in the WCHA. They have been in early holes before but none that were ever that deep.

Anyone know anything on Blake Clarke who was named to the team along with Schmaltz and plays for the Fargo Force? He seems like a guy the coaches would be keeping a close eye on.

I am agreement in that Matteau is definitely going to be tough to get here. I am thinking if he goes in the first round he heads to the Q. As for Schmaltz, I believe if he was going to go to the CHL he would have already done so. It sure would be nice if both hit campus next year though.

Looks like the rough off-season for the Sioux has continued into the season. Hopefully we will catch a break soon.
Wow well with Grimaldi and O'Donnell hurt and St. Clair not eligible we don't have 12 forwards to suit up. Looks like Gleason will be playing forward for a while. We are going to have to look long and hard about the possibility of bringing in someone second semester.

I hope the boys have a good week of practice and heal up as well. I don't know if many of you know that we had 2-3 players playing pretty banged up already and 2 of which were on the backend which was partly a cause of some of the defensive breakdowns this weekend.

SO excited! I just upgraded my cable package so now I get Fox College Sports... I will be WATCHING all the home games (maybe not always live... but I will watch)

Gosh, 5 days till the start of the season and no news/talk of this year's team since the 15th of September! I'm tired of reading about the new hockey conference(s). Doesn't anyone have any info about how things are looking on the ice so far?
The only things I have heard so far, and this being from Brad during the Herald's live chats, is that it is quite easy to separate the returnees from the freshman. Brad also mentioned that Brock has looked really good so far and this is good to hear as he is going to have to pick up the scoring to make up for all the scoring that was lost. He also said Blood has looked really good. Hopefully he can be dominating force early while the offense catches up.

No surprise but Vinnie Letteri committed to the Gophs. He was down to UND and Minn. Hopefully UND can land some of the bigger fish out there (Cammerata, Fasching, Guertler).

To be perfectly honest as an academic institution with a large fan following in a mid major metro area with high incomes etc. the inclusion of Alabama Huntsville to the NCHA would be far superior to SCSU and many of the other proposed schools. Huntsville is a tech center, an industrial center and a population boomer. I vote for adding them and Air Force if the F%^&*ing Irish decide not to join!
Can we get over the Air Force fetish already? They don't want any part of a league that they are going to be a bottom-feeder every year.

I would guess without any inside info that he chooses between UND and Minny. I would be willing to bet on Minny but him leaving for Ann Arbor this year may give UND an outside chance.
Is it just me or is it that we are seeing quite a few recent recruits coming down to UND, Minny and UMD as before it was always Wisconsin instead of UMD? Think a new building and a national championship help out recruiting much?

I don't think anybody wants to punish Native Americans that support the nickname. I just wish there was a way to show the PC crowd that actions have consequences... and Standing Rock took actions years ago that led us to go down the road of having Sioux as a nickname by giving permission and having a tribal ceremony. Now, having to change a nickname and the symbol which the University has become synonymous with, will create marketing problems as well as numerous others with alumni and friends who are upset by the whole thing because of the pride factor that will be lost. If I take a job and the commensurate salary with the responsibilities of that job, then decide to take on a less stressful job with less responsibilities, I wouldn't expect to keep the same salary. There are so many Native American programs at UND because the name is Fighting Sioux, plain and simple. Frankly, I think the University of North Dakota is hostile and abusive to Norwegians! Where are the Norwegian programs?
That is the point I was trying to make. Show that actions have consequences and those consequences could be losing native american programs and grants at the university. No more free education could get some people changing their ways.

All I can say is that the best hockey tournament in the country has way too much hostility between fan bases. I have been going to the Final Five for 6 years now and the hostility seems to be growing worse every year. It amazes me that so many people can't enjoy beer and great hockey without all the hostility.
