  1. Hakstol and Eades were at the draft last year to support Grimaldi and Miller. I imagine someone from the UND coaching staff tries to go every year if a current Sioux or recruit may be drafted.

I do remember Hak being there last year now. I was just thinking that it may be something new after what happened after the draft last year. I guess not though. Glad to see where Schmaltz went though.

  2. Nice job assistant coach A and B.....

Anyone know if Dane or any of the UND coaches were at the draft last year? I don't remember and am wondering if this is something new since the JT Miller situation last year? Just another way to make sure their player makes it to campus?

  3. We have a winner! He played two games with the Saskatoon Blades according to dmb or whaterever it's called.

I believe Colby Genoway played a few games as well and that is why he sat out his first year here and only had 3 years of eligibility.

  4. The job announcement provides a clue to the new direction for this assistant. (color added)

I believe the items in color reiterate what I posted yesterday and the fanbase will understand the reason for the change.

  5. During an interview, Hakstol didn’t get into details about the new roles and duties that Eades didn’t fit into, but he added: “I hope at the end of that hiring process that will answer your question in terms of what I would like to address. I don’t think it’s fair to get into that today at the front end. The result itself should answer that question.”

I heard this weekend from a good source that we have found our guy and the quote above holds true. I don't think it will be a big surprise to anyone around here.

  6. See, now there's a guy I can respect.

And today, with the kid that decommitted from Miami because he aged out of the NTDP and didn't want to play his draft year in the USHL ... well Kristo and Mattson aged out too , and they aren't doing too bad for themselves either.

People can say nothing fishy is going on in Ann Arbor, but the track record of the last couple years speaks for itself if you ask me. People say most keep their commitments. Well, good for them. They know the meaning of the word. As for the others... perhaps they needed a college education more than anything so they can improve their vocabulary. Okay. End of rant.

Not to criticize St. Clair in anyway as I respect what he had to do last year after being screwed by the NCAA, but he was an early CC commit that bailed and committed to UND after playing in Fargo.

  7. I believe Gregoire has been a healthy scratch. Both he and Hextall had a tough first year in the AHL.

Brock Nelson played in 4 regular season games for Bridgeport registering 0 points, and in 2 playoff games registering 0 points. He was a healthy scratch for the third playoff game. Some Isles fans on the Hockey Futures message board now see what most Sioux fans thought when Nelson left early... that he needs to be much stronger in order to use his offensive talents effectively at the pro level. It might be a long summer in the gym for Nelson.

I think the most telling stat is the fact that he had 0 shots on goal in those games as well. I sure hope this doesn't stunt his development as I like most everyone here knows is that he has a long ways to go strength wise to compete at the NHL level. I sure hope his family pushing too early doesn't ruin him as a player. I think this happens to many players that leave high school for the USHL too early (i.e Mike Fink).

  8. I think next years team could have many different line combos based on the fact that they will be so deep at the center position. Knight, Rowney, Grimaldi and O'Donnel are all really good centers that are in our top 6-7 forwards. So I would presume at least one will play wing next year. Also, I think many are underrating the value Rodwell will have on this team. In no way do I see him as a healthy scratch. He will be a valuable 3rd ro 4th line guy that will be a solid penalty killer for this team. It will certainly be nice to have some options as opposed to this year thoough.

  9. I guess if it was agreed upon that they would all come back, then why did Kristo wait this long to say he was staying?

I was told last night that Danny's decision was made a few weeks back but Montreal wanted him to wait to talk with him before he announced it so that is why the wait. Also from what I understand Nelson was quite happy and content to play one more year here but was pressured by his family, especially his grandpa Bill Christian, to sign. I just hope signing too early doesn't ruin him. He certainly didn't get off to a good start with his few games in the AHL. I sure hope he has a huge summer in the weight room.

  10. Look here

Minnesota played a home-and-home with BSU in 2000-01. Minnesota has played 5 total non-tournament out-of-conference road games since 2000. One was against Bemidji, the others were a series each against Ohio State and New Hampshire. Since then they have visited Bemidji once more for a two game series.

Just off the top of my head I know that Minnesota played at BU in there. They opened up BU's new rink.

  11. So how much do you think "the timeout" netted him in his new contract. Although the timeout demonstrated how the players respond when the coach isn't in panic mode, it is what Sioux fans have come to expect and something I am sure that has not gone unnoticed by Faison. The "we can do this" type attitude kind of encapsulates the whole season with all the injuries and such.

I would say zero. If Faison didn't know what kind of coach he had before "the timeout" he should be the first to go.

  12. When the NCAA announced their policy they thought that the Oklahoma tribes were against Florida State using the nickname, and they were going to use that to help force Florida State to change. The NCAA thought that because they had received letters from a tribe member that is an attorney, and they understood that he spoke for the tribe. The Tribal Council in Oklahoma came out right after the NCAA announcement and said that this man did not speak for the tribe, and that they were not against Florida State using the nickname. Therefore the NCAA backed down since they didn't have any backup on the issue, and the standard became a single local tribe. For some reason people still believe that the Oklahoma tribes are against using the name.

Thanks for clearing that up. I always heard the Oklahoma tribes were against the use. Either way I find it hard to believe the NCAA would have gone hard after a school like Florida St that generates them so much money.

  13. I think the fact that the Seminole tribe endorses the use of their name by Florida State would make their situation a little different. We have the endorsement of Spirit Lake, but not Standing Rock, so that would be interesting.

From what I understand about the whole Florida St situation, other than the fact that they make the NCAA millions, is that the Seminole tribe in Florida approved the use of the nickname but the main Seminole tribes are in Oklahoma and they are against the use. Since the Seminole tribe closest to the university approves the use, the NCAA is ok with it. Someone may correct me if I am wrong.

  14. You are right, it happens very often in other sports. It happens in hockey too, just not that often. The most recent one is Johnny Gaudreau, committed to Northeastern, coach left, then ended up playing for BC. I can't remember anyone else though. This is kind of different though, moving from a smaller program to a very large one. I wouldn't be too worried about any of our recruits jumping ship to Mankato, Major Junior's on the other hand....

How about Jordan Schmaltz? He opened up his recruitment when Osieki? left Wisconsin for the Ohio St head job.

  15. Yes, if he stayed and played two more years, he could've been in that boat. I wish he was coming back!!

I'm definitely dissappointed and surprised that Brock decided to sign. I don't think he is ready but the last skinny sophomore I said wasn't ready for the NHL hasn't played a game in the AHL in his career(Travis Zajac). So I guess I could be wrong. Best of luck to you. I don't think Blood was able to talk to him before he signed with his feelings.

  16. Exactly. That's why I keep a roster and a list of recruits with expected arrival years.

When I saw two goalies (Saunders and Gothberg) for this fall I figured Eidsness and Maris (and hoped it wouldn't be Dell leaving). Instead, it's Eids and presumably Dell but UND still has experience in net (Saunders).

Hakstol knows how to manage a roster (when guys don't welch out on commitments at the last minute ... I'm looking at you JT Miller :glare: ).

I had the same feeling as you on our goalie situation for next year. I was thinking the log jam with 3 good goaltenders could cause us to lose one but now I see that won't be the case.

On Nelson like most everyone else on here, I think one more year would have suited him well and after next year Hak would have driven him to the airport himself. He has great talent but not enough strength for the next level yet. There were many times this season where he was still manhandled and easily knocked off the puck. One more year at UND and I think he would have been a shoe-in to be UND straight to a top 6 forward for the Islanders. I guess that could still be the case but he has alot of work to do this summer.

  17. It's hard to say right now, we have alot of forwards that have experience playing center. The big line of Nelson, Knight, Kristo could be split up and have Brock or Corban centering the 2nd line as well.

Glad someone finally mentioned this. Nelson was a center his whole life until this year and it wouldn't surprise me to see him centering the second line next year. He was put on wing this year due to us trying to find one dominant line. But it looks like we could have an abundance of centers on next years roster with Knight, Nelson, Rowney, Grimaldi, O'Donnel. Not a bad problem to have though.

  18. I found the best way to handle those fans was ignore them and cheer extra loud in their general direction when the Sioux mounted that insane comeback. That was the best hockey game I have ever been to hands down! I'm still in shock that it happened and made me very proud of this team and proud to be a fan of the Fighting Sioux.

All I can say is that the best hockey tournament in the country has way too much hostility between fan bases. I have been going to the Final Five for 6 years now and the hostility seems to be growing worse every year. It amazes me that so many people can't enjoy beer and great hockey without all the hostility.

Blah Blah Blah. You guys that are content with just "being there" are the same people who want every single kid to get a trophy in sports. There are WINNERS and there are LOSERS, no matter how much you hippes want to give everyone a trophy, cookie, and a "atta boy" just for TRYING.

Hakstol, has done NOTHING that special since he's been here. His first few years he had Blais's teams that I COULD HAVE COACHED to the playoffs and FF. Bochenski, Parise, Toews, Oshie, Duncan, on and on and on and on.

He had SUPERIOR TALENT and at the end of the day came home with as many Championships (what programs like UND are judged by except by you liberal "happy to be there" clowns) as Michigan Tech and Alaska Anchorage have in the last decade.

Give me a NATIONAL TITLE and 11 bad seasons any day of the week over "Making the playoffs" and CHOKING every single damn year.

Although, that's so HARSH, especially for you "rah rah rah, never say anything negative about our Sioux, rah rah rah" fans.

I don't want to get into how much I disagree with your post and opinion but I do want to point out that you should get your facts straight before posting this bs. Hak never coached Parise (unless you mean Jordan) or Bochenski. They both left the same year Blais did. Lastly, you can have your 11 bad seasons and one national championship but I will take consistency. I would certainly like a national championship and I have no doubt one will come but I certainly enjoy watching a nationally competitve team year-in and year-out.

  20. MacWilliams hit was definitely clean. Hockey is getting screwed by people who can't take a hit anymore. You might as well keep your head down from now on because if you get leveled with your head down you'll draw a penalty. Just stupid

100% agree with you here. I've been saying it for a while now that you might as well skate with your head down because if someone drills you, like they should, you end up drawing a penalty and a lot of times a major. All the majors being called produces way to many flops and way too many players turning to draw them. The first Sioux penalty on Panzarella was a perfect example of a player knowing the hit will be coming and turning to draw a penalty.

  21. Oh of course and I agree with this million percent! 2 of my all time favorite sioux d men! Just when a player like jones comes along and that the Sioux are actually a player is impressive with today's age of recruiting.

Any others out there around the area or anywhere that the Sioux are looking at for those in the know? We seem to have some big time d talent in the waiting with or without jones but adding him is a game changer in many ways

I've read that Ian McCoshen, who was mentioned earlier in this thread I believe, has narrowed his choices to five schools with UND being the frontrunner at this point. He is a big strong physical d-man that would fit right in with the style of Sioux defensemen. He would be a very nice get. This info is coming from a Wisconsin fan who is in the know much more than I.

  22. Bjugstad is the real deal. He's huge, a good skater and had a nose for the back of the net. He will be playing in the NHL in the next year or two. As to the debate of the best college prospect, I still think Jaden Schwartz is a beast waiting to break out, although he hasn't really lit the world on fire this year. And Brock Nelson is in that conversation too, though he still needs 25 pounds of muscle before he's nhl ready imo.

I agree with you here. Bjugstad is definitely the real deal and as of right now the better player than Nelson. Nelson is definitely a great player but to call him grittier is a tough argument. He may play grittier than Bjugstad but it is difficult to tell since Bjugstad is stronger at this stage. Nelson gets knocked off the puck quite easily still but will get better with added strength and weight. I agree with buckysieve in that the only college forward who I have seen that is as ready as Bjugstad for the NHL is Krieder from BC.
