  1. Right after the 09-10 season ended, people were saying the 10-11 season would be special. We had insane depth coming back, but really no one had numbers that popped out at you. We had three 30 point forwards returning, as well as three 20 point guys returning. For next year, we will have Rocco, who will have 30+ points this year, maybe more. He should put up close to 50 next year. Parks and MacMillan should be at least 30 point guys next year. After that, players need to step up. Hopefully Caggiula can take a Knight and Nelson like jump from a solid freshman year to a very good sophomore year. I am not expecting 40+ points from him, but 25+ would be nice. O'Donnell needs to turn into the player that we all know he can be. I think Murphy, Tambellini, and Johnson will all asked to contribute immediately. I think one of those guys will surprise us and put up 30+ points. I am not going to predict who, because all have the potential to do so as early as next year.

Like someone else said, the strength of this team next year will be goaltending and defense. In terms of defense, it won't just be in the defensive zone. Schmaltz should take a huge jump offensively next year, Mattson should have a very good year, and Forbort and Simpson should be two of the best defensemen in the country next year if they both stay. All 4 of these guys should be able to contribute offensively. We very well could have 4, maybe 5 (if LaDue tears it up right away) defenseman that put up 20+ points. I think forward scoring will be down, but I really think our defensemen will pick up the offensive slack next year.

I'm more cocerned about our defense than most. I am betting Forbort is gone and that leaves Simpson, Mattson, Schmaltz and Panzarella as the only returners and probably Ladue, Crisfield and a young Thompson coming in. That doesn't look like this extremely strong D-core that others are mentioning.

  2. He was never planning on coming, from the chatter I heard. He strung everyone along for 9 months.

Regarding the Gopher fan chiming in calling us petty, Wasn't Peter Mueller an academic issue with the U, or am I thinking of someone else?

EDIT: I googled and I may be thinking of someone else. NBD.

Mueller aged out of the U-18 team his senior year of high school and since he hadn't graduated from high school he either had to play in the USHL for a year and then go to the U or go Major Junior. He decided major junior was his best route. Not really similar to Miller in that Miller bailed in the late summer without any time to replace him as Mueller left a full year before he was going to play for the U. He wasn't a great student from what I understand but I don't know if there were any academic reasons behind it or not.

  3. Wow I'm glad I'm glad some of you got your scrum fix but seriously check out an NHL game. This, again, is a huge let down in another full blown uninspired game. A tie in a home game is so close to a loss. We're in February and we cannot find a way to win on home ice. This, so far, has been one of the most difficult seasons to watch given the amount of talent on the team. I'm definitely not calling for Hak to lose his job but he has done a terrible job this year. Sorry for being the pessimist but just calling out the obvious.

I have to agree with you here. Two weekends in a row and I have never been so bored at REA. No flow, no sustained offensive pressure and still shady D play. I,like you, am by no means calling for a coach change but if the lines aren't totally changed up tonight I will start questioning. There isn't one line right now that is even close to clicking and you can throw in the D pairs in there as well. Way too much talent to be playing this poorly.

  4. This really is too bad for the Glendale area. I have been to a few Coyotes games while I was visiting over the past few years and the area around the rink is nice. Nothing like having a drink sitting outside at a restaurant in 60-70 degree weather about 50 feet from your entrance. Pretty cool area around the arena.

  5. I will be there. Not overly excited about it though as I'm just not a big fan of outdoor gimmick games. I am more excited for the friday night game as I think it will be quite a large crowd and an intense game. I have just never seen an outdoor game have anywhere near the quality of play that an indoor game has.

  6. Wow, that was brilliant work by Schlossman.

And I love Hammy's response...talking about how he's "heard" from other people about other issues, not the ones that the Herald has reported on. What a piece of work that guy is. He's always been good as a source of amusement. :D

And it's always scouts and professionals that he hears it from. There must be a scout in the Sioux locker room daily over the Hak tenure that relays this information to him. Or portraying students and hanging out with the hockey players away from the rink to get dirt.

  7. There's been no indication of the role Knight played in the "GF Herald buried it"-gate. He could have simply just been there, or maybe it was at his house. Who knows? Bottom line is he is a senior, and a captain, and was one of those held responsible.

Frattin was throwing lawn mowers in the street, and was cited for driving drunk.

    Comparable?

Certainly not comparable but like was mentioned in a previous post, there is no doubt Frattin was hurt by his off-ice incidents (plural). I think Frattin wins it without the off-ice incidents as I have read at the time that many voters wouldn't vote for him based on his past run-ins.

  8. Still odd. I have gopher buddies

But they would be hanging all around Vikings forums instead of Packers forums...there are only so many hours in a day.

I guess I would be a prime example of the other end as well. Born and raised on the Iron Range in Gopher and Bulldog country and I am as big a Sioux fan as you will find and as big of a Gopher hater as you will find. To each their own I guess.

  9. To me offensively Hak has to go one of 2 ways w Rocco...top line or on a wing w Drake and Mark Mac centering. Mark is much more of a playmaker at center.

St. Clair needs to play...period. Put him w Rowney and Parks. Hak seem to likes Mitch on top line. Then you have Pattyn Rodwell and Jim or Gaarder on 4th line.

Where Rocco and Mark can find a line home to me will be a big part in where this team is come March.

I think even though he hasn't played well at all this year that we need to find a way to get O'Donnell going and fit int0 the lineup. I know Hak liked the Pattyn-St. Clair-Rodwell line to start the year and I really like that as our fourth line if we can find three other solid lines to go with it. What those are, I'm not sure at this point but O'Donnell picking up his play could be the difference for this team.

  10. Simpson was our only reliable Dman all weekend. Thought Joe played decent as the big ice suits his speed. The other 4...uhhhhgggggg! Just surprised in a huge series like this how poorly Mac played.

I guess this is the one thing I forgot in my rant. MacWilliam was horrible all weekend. He definitely needs to pick up his play. It is remarkable to me that even he was losing puck battles when he shouldn't lose many if any. i would have to watch replays but i believe he was responsible for a couple of the goals last night.

  11. Here are my observations/rant from last night that I just want to get out. I would assume some if not all might have been mentioned in this thread but I don't feel like reading 19 pages.

    1. I don't think I would have played Schmaltz the last 8-10 minutes of the game and especially OT. He was obviously overwhelmed this weekend and has a long ways to go. I don't know how we sit Gleason and Mattson for a game or two for Panzarella and Schmaltz hasn't sat yet. I think he has been our worst D all year.

    2. I've never seen a Sioux team lose so many puck battles along the boards expecially in their own end and especially the D (see tying goal) in my life. Come on Berry work your magic.

    3. Rocco was the best player on the ice for the last two periods and a half. He needs to play with better talent period. He almost took the game over himself.

    4. Why St. Clair hadn't played the last two games amazes me. I thought he played well last night and has been one of our most consistent forwards all year.

    5. Jim can do his job at times but their are better options especially on the big sheet. He helps with depth but I don't like him in the lineup unless we have injuries.

    6. I thought Zane was pretty good but we just can't seem to make the key save when we need to.

    7. I thought Mitch might have been the answer last weekend with Knight and Kristo but this weekend he was exposed. I think we have to try Rocco there.

    End of rant for now.

  12. When's Rocco back out in the ice? Tuesday or wed? Look forward to seeing this team with every playmaker in the lineup! Radke still a week or two away?

Radke's out of eligibility but Rodwell is a week or two away I believe. Tough decisions to make when Rodwell is back.

  13. My god don cherry just went on another 8 tweet rant..I'm so glad he's a Canadian hockey guy!

@CoachsCornerCBC: Just listening to the sports experts on radio and tv talking about our Canadian defeat. Saying we must give credit to the coaches and their

@CoachsCornerCBC: development in foreign lands. Check out the stars on the foreign teams where the majority of them played and where they got their

@CoachsCornerCBC: development and what coaches are coaching them in their development. You’ll find that it was Canadians in Junior Hockey.

@CoachsCornerCBC: I still say the Canadian Hockey League should be for Canadians either that or change the name. Some Canadian guy spends thousands on

@CoachsCornerCBC: sticks, travel, equipment, pays his taxes and his kid is cut from the CHL for some kid who’s father never contributed a cent to Canada.

@CoachsCornerCBC: I know alot of people don’t agree with me and I look bad saying stuff like this. But I’ve gone a long time without worrying what people say.

@CoachsCornerCBC: I know we lost. I am not a gracious guy. Lets see how many guys from the tournament make the NHL. You’ll find Canada will be number one.

@CoachsCornerCBC: Hey maybe I am a spoiled sport. But that’s the way I am and feel. Lots of people agree with me but when asked say the safe thing.

@CoachsCornerCBC: I don’t blame them. As my mother used to say, if you don’t like my gate, don’t swing on it.

Never liked Don Cherry. I think he's an idiot and these rants prove it. I don't think many would argue that in a few years Canada will have the most players in the NHL from this tournament but that doesn't neccessarily mean they had the best team. More often than not they have the most talent but that doesn't always equate to the best team and if anyone should know that it should be Cherry.

  14. Called it!

I will give you props for this. I was one who was thinking he was a Gopher all the way and you stuck to your guns. Nice to get two the Gophers were after in the same week. It's been a while since we've won a recruiting battle over them.

  15. I'd call the US team full of talent, but then I saw Canada's roster...

Yep not even close when comparing to Canada's roster. Canada will be filled with a roster full of players that would be playing in the NHL and some that already have. I think this World Junior tourney will very much resemble the 2005 tourney that was in Grand Forks.

  16. From Hak's recent and past comments he seems to really like Drake, Rocco and Colton together. My guess would be Parks goes back to Rowney's line with Gaarder.

I know he really likes the combination of Pattyn-St. Clair-Rodwell. With a healthy Parks, that would be our energy line.
