Non-contact cardiac condition. No warning signs, previously undiagnosed.

Studsrud has been a gamer. He hung in there yesterday against pressure and didn't turn the ball over. I think he has a chance to develop into a decent QB. He will start only if Mollberg isn't healthy and Bartels doesn't return. Give the kid some time to mature as a player. He was number 3 cuz he has a way to go yet. Oline will need to continue to improve before you see the real potential of any of these three guys. Bartels likely will come out of spring ball as starter because Mollberg may not be ready to participate in full contact. Mollberg's injury is an injury that takes at least 4-6 months to heal. That puts it into April and there would be no reason to risk injury late spring. Bartels, when healthy, had plenty of poise but also threw ball much better and has a lot more experience than Keaton. They may consider red shirting Studsrud if both Bartels and Mollberg return and are healthy.

I see you were at the party for Dallas. I didn't see anyone sauced enough to be you. I also didn't see Faison there which means he doesn't get it. He should have stopped by. Had nice visit with Roger Thomas and Bubba. Roger told great story about Mark Poolman and how he is only player to get game ending injury during coin toss. Poolman and Mike Schmatz who both played fb for Roger, now have kids playing hockey at UND. Those guys have a great coaching fraternity and give up an awful lot to coach with only a slim chance at the big time. Sioux FB is in great hands right now. Tide is turning.

Agree. Gfhockey and his gobc might need to call them on the carpet. I think Kelly understands that inter collegiate athletics is important to a University. I don't think he understands how important with regards to the positive marketing, donations and student enrollment. If he did he would be putting the pressure on Faison to step it up both with the timetable, quantity and quality of support for the entire athletic dept.

Impressive win. Garmin showed if you give him some room he can run. He isn't the kind of RB who breaks tackles, he reads blocks and makes guys miss. We gave up some big third down conversions but we had guys with the receivers. They need to attack the ball but last year we had guys all by themselves on those plays. We did get fooled on their long TD but the comeback is something this coaching staff can look back on as a turning point. You guys need to lighten up on Rudolph. The oline has slowly improved over the course of this season and have given us some semblance of a running game. Studsrud did what they needed him to do. He didn't turn the ball over and didn't panic on the last drive. Defensive line did great job and our younger kids are improving game to game. Didn't like KO coverage but we had good punt coverage and hang time on punts. We had only 9 guys on the field when they botched their punt and we ended up with ball inside their 10. Those things can't happen. Didn't like the pass interference called on us by side judge from 30 yds away nor the holding on Tilman near end of game on their third down. Same guy made both calls. Bubba said that crew does decent job but he was too far away to yell at the guy. Disappointing turnout by fans esp students. They could choose to be part of this turnaround. Administration could help by making this more of an event experience. Don't think Faison understands that. I agree scoreboard management at Alerus is worthless. What is so difficult about posting current scores from around the country? Top 25 FBS, FCS, Big Sky and area teams of interest. We get the same 3 games with few updates. Are those people that clueless or don't they care. Good call on the win Gundy.

Don't read anything into this. Too many schools pressure these kids to commit early and tell them everyone wants to go there cuz they are so good. They tell them they can't hold the scholarship so they need to commit on the spot. Kids may not have made all of their visits yet. Kid may have had interest from other schools and reconsidered. Kid hasn't signed yet so maybe wants to be honest about his interest elsewhere. When I was involved with recruiting we told kids to make their other visits and if they had a better choice then that is where they should go. I don't think we lost kids because of that.

I stand corrected.

Not necessarily. Mollberg was developing as a leader of this team and playing well before he was hurt. Bartels will be the starter if Mollberg doesn't heal fast enough. He will be the starter if he improves beyond how Mollberg improves. He must commit to staying here for either of those scenarios. Bubba will again choose the guy who gives us the best chance of being successful. What they have done to this point won't get them or lose them the starting position. What matters to date is that Mollberg has "struck" Bubba and the coaches as the better QB. Won't matter come this spring so I hope they both heal and they both improve. Whomever the starter is, give them time to throw and guys who catch the ball and a running game and we will probably be happy with either of them. Time will tell.

Ag College in Fargo til they get beat again. No one else undefeated but this loss shows they are vulnerable. They have wins against decent teams this year and UNI is no slouch.

So you are going to judge a kid who agrees to pull his redshirt for the good of the team because he is an inexperienced freshman who has a ways to go??? You think either the kid or Bubba wanted to do this? Mollberg who is 6'2" and 230 lbs lasted 8 games and Bartels who is 6'2" and 218 lbs lasted only 2 games. I hope the kid can survive 2 more games without getting hurt. I don't think you understand the difficulty all 3 of these guys have had to endure. They take a beating week after week. You expect them to stand in a collapsing pocket and make every play every time. You can't throw Studsrud under the bus. He should have 2 more years to develop. He is a good athlete with a lively arm. Judge him in a couple of years. Give either of the other 2 time to throw, a running game and receivers who can run the right routes and catch the ball, then criticize them. QB isn't the problem right now. If Mollberg is healthy he will be the QB. If Bartles stays, and heals he will be the QB if Mollberg isn't healthy. Watch the FCS games or the NFL games. The best QBs in the game don't play as well without a surrounding cast of players who can block, pass protect, run the ball, catch the ball and hang on to the ball. I disagree you are calling it "like it is". I don't think you are taking into account that no QB is much good without his teammates. You are calling it as you see it just like I am and the rest of us rubes who contribute to fan blogs.

Here are some keys that I believe are essential to our success . We have some kids here who can play. We need to get more quality kids and we need to allow the kids we have develop. We have a good start to 2015 recruiting but we need to continue to get quality kid to fill out the 2015 class. We need some key transfers and some key JUCO kids. We need to fast track the indoor practice facility and especially get phase 2 started within the next year. This needs to be a priority for the University as well as the athletic dept. This facility must be designed to upgrade our speed and strength and conditioning for all sports. If also needs to be a research facility for not just Sports Medicine, kinesiology and excercise physiology but occupational health and work related injuries. Include that in the plan, involve the med school and attract oil money with the plan to study prevention, treatment and rehab for oil industry related injuries. That facility is one of the major keys to our success in Div 1 moving forward. I don't believe we are as far away as some but I may be wrong.

I stayed at home last night.

Tell her you are buying it for Lakes Bison.

Sounds like 2 wide receivers may be hanging it up. Hope coaches and teammates can get them to reconsider. We have little depth now and can't afford to pull more red shirts.

I assume it is an AC separation. The Acromio-clavicular joint is at the top of the shoulder and helps stabilize the shoulder. Grade 1 is a minor sprain with no evidence of separation on the xray and no evidence of deformity on exam. Tender at top of shoulder and would hurt to throw. Non-throwers can probably play with that injury but it will hurt when they hit with that shoulder. Grade 2 shows some separation on the xray and there is usualy evidence of a mild deformity at the AC joint (the top of the shoulder at the end of the clavicle). Those hurt when you even lift your arm and usually take 2-4 weeks to feel much better. A grade 3 separation shows a large separation on xray and you see a step off deformity at the AC joint on exam. It is very tender and usually treated with surgery by most Sports Med orthopedic surgeons. Have no idea what Ryan has nor when he could get back. This is different than a shoulder dislocation. He will recover from an AC Grade 1 or 2 sprain pretty quickly and easily back for spring ball if not sooner.

Bartles starts if he is healthy but no reason to bring back too early. Studsrud next up and if it gets out of hand protect Studsrud and let Hanson play. We are going to need to run the ball and hopefully let whomever QB is run some play action. Way too many guys hurt to know what to expect anymore. Great opportunity for guys who have been waiting for their chance to step up.

Read the post. "Those of us......" implies myself included. I have no "skin in the game" with Mollberg. I have seen him play and develop so I may have higher expectations and that would be my bias. He needs to get healthy so why take the shot at him you did?. Seems some are a bit sensitive to anyone questioning those who want to either bench a kid or fire a coach every 2 weeks. Obviously you are someone who agrees with Mussman who felt Bartles was the guy and I'm agreeing with Bubba that Mollberg is the better option. They are both hurt and I hope they both get healthy. So why not let them heal before you cut their "rope". I believe Bubba will play whichever of these guys gives us the best chance to win. I still think the QB's are not the problem. Good job on your FFL and hope you do as well this year.

You miss my point. By definition, Jake Hanson is a D1 QB (he is a QB for UND). I think Sioux fans know his capabilities. Your critical comments about him went beyond what I believe is fair. You also commented more than once trying to make your point. It went beyond that he isn't ready to start. I stood up for the kid and other kids who straps it on and goes to practice everyday competing to the best of their ability. If you feel it is fair to unduly hammer on a kid like you did and there is no rebuttal, the I guess I'm wrong. As for credentials, my opinion about Mollberg is just that. No more important than yours or the guy playing the Tuba. Maybe I just don't like to see a kid who is a scout team QB, bashed repeatedly. If you need my resume you can PC me but I believe it is irrelevant.
-
Then maybe focus on Studsrud's talents. I agree the decision about Hanson "goes without saying" except you felt it important to say it. Most fans already figured it out. You don't know I have been overly optimistic about Mollberg. You think you do. I don't know how he will continue to develop but I know he has the potential. It wasn't just me, it was Bohl and Vigen who wanted him badly as well as other D1 coaches who saw the potential. I watched him play in HS so I have seen the potential. Obviously you and Mussman weren't quite convinced. Bubba disagreed and so do I. Doesn't mean I'm not realistic but I think I understand the importance of the team play and how that can affect what the QB can do. Mollberg was starting to play much better after the MState game. Bartels and Studsrud both struggled when they played, In fact between them they threw 5 ints. and no TD's the last 2 games. Despite that I think they are both capable. I'm not irrational and I think given protection and a semblance of a running game both Mollberg and Bartels are Big Sky caliber players. Not fair to judge Studsrud yet. I confess, I don't play Madden and I'm not in a fantasy FB league, but we need to get a better supportive cast before you toss anyone under the bus.
-
Nice cheap shot but if Bartles gets healthy he will be the starter. I believe Bartels return this year is questionable. There are no ropes, long short or otherwise. If Mollberg was healthy he would still be the starter. These coaches are doing everything they can to win and turn the program around and they are playing the kids they think give us the best chance to win every play, every game. The coaches don't ever care about the opinions of those of us whose "body of work" is highlighted by finishing as runner up 2 yrs in a row in our fantasy FB league or play a mean game of Madden. If Studsrud shows he is that guy next spring he will start next fall. If Bartles shows he is the guy he will start. With Mollberg's injury, it changes things. Dan Marino threw for 30 TD's and over 4000 yds the year after his Achilles rupture and surgery. Mollberg's surgery went well. I would not expect him to participate in contact drills, if at all this spring. Hopefully Bartles will be ready for springball.

AF out scored UND for most of game. I didn't think they outplayed us, but I guess if you are down 2-0 you have a point. I thought Sioux worked hard, hustled to puck, outshot AF and most of game was in AF end. Some lack of focus in 1st period especially, but working hard in corners and hustling to puck. I thought we were out of sync. Just struggled to put anything together. I didn't think AF goalie had to make a tough save til halfway through 3 rd period.

Except Studsrud #1 QB, Hanson #2. Good luck to the kid.
