  1. I would agree.
  2. No. I’m not sure how they would have justified their call to anyone but Hermantown had Hermantown won. Officials don’t have the discretion to change rules based on how they think the rule should be. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.
  3. I googled the rule. Clearly states can’t be in the crease. Says nothing about time in crease or goalie interference. Can’t be in crease before the goal. He was clearly in the crease before the goal. Hermantown May have attacked the refs but they should have made the call.
  4. Hermantown player skates into the crease on his own before the goal. It should have been disallowed. It makes no difference whether or not that player interferes with the goalie. Replay clearly shows player in the crease before goal. Johnny Pohl wants to ignore the rule because the goalie wasn’t interfered with. Mahtomedi wins in OT. I guess that’s Karma.
  5. I get a regular update on Coronavirus from multiple sources. There is no reason to panic. If you get a cough or flu like symptoms stay home. If you are healthy there isn’t a lot to worry about. If you get it it will likely be similar to a bad cold. It can be serious for elderly and those who are immunocompromised. People in this country who have died, aren’t healthy young and middle aged people. Don’t get your info from the media. Don’t get your info from politicians including the President. The CDC has regular updates. Your doctors should be able to provide answers to your questions.
  6. Not that many go to GF for games.
  7. Home schooled. Reportedly has taken a couple classes at HS this year. Reportedly nice kid. Large family. Related to former UND RB. Warroad lady with UND ties not sure if RB is older brother or cousin. She thinks Mom or grandma is a Marvin but not positive.
  8. So instead of 36 forwards 18-24 d men and 6 goalies we get an “all-star” team with 1/3 those numbers. Why would anyone want to do that? Bragging rights for whom?? Too many people seem to forget that although the goal of the teams is to win, the purpose of high school athletics is so much more than that. The kids are better off with opportunities for 3 teams. Central, Red River and EGF have held their own over the years and if adults don’t screw things up those teams will continue to provide a great HS hockey experience for kids, including the opportunities to play post high school for those with the ability and desire.
  9. Thus my question.
  10. So Warroad fans claim UND, Gophers and UM Duluth all passed on Slukynsky. Anyone know the story? It’s hard for me to believe the kid chooses N Michigan over UND, Duluth, Wisconsin or the Gophers. The kid is big, strong, smart, plays both ends of the ice, great passer, great vision and can snipe. How did we lose him???
  11. WM 5-3 final
  12. Western Michigan scored 2 goals in 29 sec and added another all in 3rd to go up 5-3. 5:40 left
  13. You’re kidding right? You “let it happen” and it could have been 6 on 4 the last few minutes. Thome did the smart thing. We need to stay out of the box no matter what.
  14. What’s your point?
  15. I understand these guys are better than Howe and Gundy.
  16. That was Paul Wasinski (Waz). He played on the Phi Delt band. (I’m not sure if I spelled his name correctly). He also had the plastic ketchup bottles you find on some restaurant tables full of water.( I think it was water). He would squirt opponents players through the chicken wire. They also played at FB games. Decided to join a Shriners band for the halftime show of one of the FB games. For the most part they kept up with the marching until one of them passed out and had to be helped off the field. I think it was the trombone player. Those guys were a riot.
  17. You have to realize I defer to the experts. They always know someone and “they should be contacted “. Then make it happen.
  18. I would disagree. First of all, Chaves and Steve Brekke were meeting with potential donors regularly before Steve left. They have a thorough understanding of what is needed and have a comprehensive plan for what UND needs to do to properly upgrade facilities. They did a great presentation and also presented multiple options for donations to athletics and other aspects of the University. 2 months ago I don’t believe they have identified a major donor and we have a challenge ahead of us. If anyone knows someone who they haven’t reached yet contact that person and let them know we have a great opportunity for them and have them contact Chaves or contact Chaves and give him the info. We will get there.
  19. Tough spot to come in to, especially if off line isn’t greatly improved. I’m not a big fan if it’s a guy with only one year unless they are All-Conf (or better) caliber. If one of the freshmen is as good as some think I would rather go with them and maintain the relationships and culture we should be able to establish in spring ball and hopefully build on over the summer.
  20. Why would he do lateral transfer? Nothing in it for him. Unless there is a surprise transfer I think we go with whomever comes out of spring training as #1. No idea who that will be. Schuster was Ok in his stint last fall. Nothing there to anoint him as the answer but he should be #1 going into spring drills. Should be interesting.
  21. Yes they could.
  22. That is true. Studies done years ago when Georgetown was a basketball powerhouse showed how school enrollment increased and donations including those earmarked for academic programming improved. My comments were to highlight the academic work of students and their importance to a University’s finances.
  23. Depending on the work they are doing, especially upper level and grad students, they generate millions in grants and donations to the University. A good portion and in some cases most of the research is done by students under the direction of faculty. Not only does that generate grant dollars, it generates additional millions in donations for Academic programs. Think of all the kumquats you can buy with those dollars.
  24. Good point. I guess I believe more of the revenues should be returned to the schools. It’s complicated because of individual contracts with schools or conferences so they likely don’t have the same control as I would have thought. The power 5 conferences have recaptured a lot of the control the NCAA was starting to have.
  25. You can’t count class time nor academic study time. Athletes don’t deserve to be paid for that anymore than any other student. I realize when we played years ago, college sports didn’t generate the revenues it does today, but frankly even with film time, time in the weight room, practice and off season training it wasn’t a full time job. During the pre- season and season depending on travel for away games vs home games it was 25-45 h per week. During the off season it was 15-20 h per week until spring ball. Then about 25h per week. We didn’t have to watch as much film when we weren’t doing game prep. Our summer workout schedule was 12-15 h per week. It’s still a game with great perks and you finish with a college degree. Unless you are either lazy or a moron, that college degree should pay dividends the rest of your life. The NCAA is stealing from the colleges and I would like to see that change, but I still think a free college education with the other perks is a fair trade for kids to play a game.
