No problem with that.

Yet we have morons chanting “who’s he?he sucks sh** every home game. Shows lack of class and intelligence from their students and ours. Makes no sense that students can’t come up with anything better than that.
-
As good if not better.
-
I would take that bet.

How are you sure this was his idea?? I’m not sure you build a program by bringing in a new coach and give him 2 years or he is gone. You won’t get coaches to come to a program that does that. I have heard nothing but good things about him.

In answer to your question yes. I have been on the Med school faculty for over 20 years and was asked to serve on the interview committee. Your comment that UND has only an academic advantage only for those in Aviation leaves out Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Undergraduate Sports Medicine, Chemical Engineering etc. There are also advantages to undergraduate students who do their undergraduate studies on a campus where there is also a Med school, Law school etc but if your grades are good, your MCAT score is good, you have a resume with activities that show you can accomplish goals work with others etc you can get in to Law School or Med School. This is supposed to be about recruiting. I hadn’t compared what UND offers vs other schools. There is another blog for UND vs NDSU which seems to be where your interest lies. In the meantime if you need to continue to upgrade your life experiences by reading and posting on UND’s forum feel free.

And the sooner you realize only a !@#!$! spends as much time trying to post on another teams blog commenting about stuff that should be irrelevant to you. NDSU is very good right now. Good for their players and coaches but is doesn’t mean you are relevant. With today’s scouting and technology the NFL will find you whether you are at Concordia, Mankato State or NDSU. You will be more likely to make Mel Kiper’s list at NDSU. If you think Aviation is the only major field of study where UND students have an advantage then you are uninformed but who cares? I answered a guys question and it has nothing to do with NDSU. Someday you may realize the success of our favorite athletic teams doesn’t make us any better or worse than those who cheer for Mayville State. Jump off your bandwagon and go make a life for yourself. You should have better things to do than even care what people here say.

You have to understand a few things about these blogs. None of us have to know anything about FB to post here or for that that matter other fan blogs. I coached wide receivers years ago and the comments about size, speed, separation is simply sports speak that these guys can get from watching 15 min or less of ESPN. We actually had a great group of receivers this year. Ron Erhardt who coached at the AC then Giants, Patriots, Jets, Steelers in no particular order, once told me he wanted receivers who can catch the ball. Everything after that “was gravy”. Our receivers had no trouble getting open. They had sufficient speed to get behind d backs and to get open. Wanzek is a great athlete. More important to passing success is protecting the passer and getting the ball to the receivers as they break into the seem of the zone or as they accelerate off of the cut against man or in some cases a zone. The other thing Wanzek and the other receivers did well was block. These guys have enough talent to be successful and that is why they were. This blog is mostly UND fans supportive of the players and coaches. It doesn’t represent the University, nor the majority of UND FB fans. The ill chosen words of one person is their opinion and frankly I’d love to sit down and breakdown game film and show him why I disagree with him and any others who seem to think that opinion is correct. I coached receivers at UND for a couple of years and spent a fair amount of time talking and listening to players and coaches at the HS, and college level. I was also fortunate to talk and interact with NFL athletes and coaches during my son-in-laws 12 yr NFL career. Having said that my opinion is probably no more valid than yours or those with whom we disagree. I can say that Noah was one of the best athletes to play WR at UND and would have excelled on any of the teams I have watched at UND for over 50 yrs.

First of all you deal with facts. We have to get better and there are still kids who want to be part of turning a program around. There are opportunities to play right away here that for some players will make a difference. You need to understand you are also recruiting the parents and in some cases friends of the athlete UND isn’t just a “hockey school “ it’s the flagship University of the State of North Dakota with a tradition the goes way back before any of us were born. That is why we still have a winning record against the “school to the south “. We made the mistake of not moving up back when the Montana schools and UNI and others moved up but that is where these young recruits come in. They can always be remembered as the first team to take the important steps to success. They have the opportunity to attend a first class University that offers over 175 ( or whatever the number is) fields of study. Our graduates have been CEO’s of major corporations such as Continental and Frontier Airlines, One of the Largest Timber Firms in the world, a world renowned Mineral/Gold mining corporation. Cargill and Buffalo Wild Wings to name just a few. Our graduates have become important Doctors, Lawyers, Judges, Engineers, Accountants, Teachers, Governors, Senators, Congressmen/Women, and astronauts. Many graduates are successful entrepreneurs. The President of the Minnesota Twins and the most successful coach in the history of the NBA are UND grads. UND grads have earned Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals in track and field and hockey. These will be their fellow students and these associations will help create opportunities for success in the future. We have all of the resources in place right now that the athletes need to be successful and we will continue to improve and build in the future but we want athletes to come to UND to be part of that success. If these kids will be willing to take the challenge of being the difference makers for the underdog that will re-establish UND as a National FB power. You don’t compare with anyone else you sell your University and the athletic opportunities they should take advantage of. Your players must have a passion for the program and a belief in what they can do as athletes and a team. Team chemistry can be contagious. Hopefully the new President understands how a successful intercollegiate athletic program can help all facets of the University. These are the things you focus on with your recruits. Behind the scenes your staff, the athletic department, the alumni office/foundation staff, and the new UND administration create a priority list and timeline to put the resources in place to meet the needs of all UND athletic teams. That is how I would recruit. We also need to do a better job of identifying recruits. Hegg from Brainerd, Schobert from Wisconsin, Thielen from Detroit Lakes are examples of kids we could have have locked up with a half scholarship each. As we need we do the appropriate upgrades and additions to the coaching staffs and athletic dept. I didn’t mean to be so “brief”. but the thought that we can’t be successful because we have some disadvantages frustrates me.

Congratulations Max. Welcome to UND. Soar Hawks.

Not correct. Depends on the kid. They may have an offer from P5 or other FBS program that doesn’t offer their major field of study. Some kids choose based on location, family ties or personal reasons. It may be a P5 school that is struggling and they see an opportunity at an FCS school that will meet their needs. Some kids from small towns aren’t always ready for P5. Usually, kid chooses P5 but not always and our friends at our sister school to the south have gotten their share for whatever reason.
-
You are correct. My points are more to the idea that we wouldn’t take a player in this situation. Has little to do with a particular player.
-
Nobody is “bending over backwards “. This has absolutely nothing to do with “valuing” the program. He didn’t snub anyone. He and his parents decided to do what’s best for him. If any program gets hung up on this kind of a thing you will be telling an empty room how we don’t let anyone snub us but we won’t be better than average. We want kids to want to be here and if it’s a year late, good for the kid and good for us. This kid or kids like him could end up being best thing for our program. No one knows until they are here. In this kids case we have no evidence he would consider transferring.
-
But still doesn’t matter. If he will help the program and doesn’t have “baggage “ we take him.
-
Any good college coach would take a player who is of good character and can help their program even if he decommited late, went elsewhere and would now come back, especially in an area of need. It is difficult for kids and their parents to know always which is the right program. If we can’t be flexible for a kid like that, we are going to have trouble being successful. We have quite a way to go to get where we need to be and we need to be mature enough not to take a high school kids decision personally. It doesn’t reflect negatively on the program. It may be another piece to the puzzle that motivates other recruits to come here.
-
Yup kids just want a chance to play and contribute. The program isn’t devalued by transfers. How many times has a kid taken an FBS PWO and we comment that we hope that if it doesn’t work out he ends up here.
-
I certainly value the program, but I’m not going to get bent out of shape over a high school kid changing his mind. After watching the lack of development of QB’s Under Rudolph, who could blame the kid for changing his mind. I don’t think we have the luxury of not going after best kids available. Ohio State and Oklahoma seemingly would disagree with you. So would most college coaches.
-
If he can play, good student, leader, great kid you don’t let pride limit your chances for success.

I hear what you are saying and what others are saying. I wouldn’t read anything into Chaves tweet one way or another. I spent over an hour with him. He seems to have a clear understanding of what our program and what our athletic department need. He also has a clear understanding of the importance of the selection of the next president and whether they will place a priority on intercollegiate athletics. He had made strides with Josh Wynne. Brad Berry has been supportive. Chaves knows we can’t move on with a divided house. It will takes everyone of us and more to get all of our programs where they need to be. For hockey and football that means competing for National Championships. For our other sports it’s making the playoffs and hopefully having some success. It means we put the name/logo issue to rest. It means we stop the hockey vs FB issue. It means those of us who can give an extra $100 or an extra $1000-$10,000 per year or a $100,000 or $1,000,000 gift or more. We spin our wheels with the logo issue and it hurts our University and our athletics including hockey. Until everyone, who is able, steps up with whatever resources we have at our disposal, we are not going to move at the pace I think we all expect from UND. As we improve our resources, you will be able to see that when changes are needed, they can be done quickly and with the financial ability to hire quality replacements. Now is the time to find out who belongs on the bus Nick Saban spoke about how mediocre performers resent high performers and vice versa. He talks about spring ball /beginning of the season is the time to learn how to get everyone “on the bus” and then figure out which ones don’t “belong on the bus”. Do we belong on the fan/support bus?
-
There is nothing in his tweet supporting mediocrity. Any leader that publicly criticizes their subordinates should not be in that position. You don’t play to the media and the fans. Unless he is going to make a change, his statement to the public is exactly what he needs to do. Anything else would undermine the program. It would be devastating to recruiting for them to read coaching staff is on a short leash.

Can’t get game in California. Who are false starts on?

Not if they don’t win.

UND @ Minnesota -- The Rivalry, with all the trimmings
iramurphy replied to stoneySIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
What a lack of class. One could do an interesting psychological study on the individual that would post this comment. Hakstol has been a respected member of the Fighting Sioux family and a credit to the University. One who does this kind of stuff exposes herself/himself as a sorry, cowardly excuse for a fan. I suppose after 10-12 beers one can build up the courage to post this. It will probably keep you giddy til Santa brings this years hockey video games. -
It’s on 662 if you have direct TV.

Let me clarify that. The pledges were to augment whatever UND was putting in.
