  1. This might sound crazy, but are there any football playing colleges in Canada near the conference schools? Would the NCAA have any problem with Canadian schools joining an American college conference?
  2. Hope the Fighting Sioux have a great season starting with a win tomorrow at Central Washington. We open a week from tomorrow at Illinois on espn2. GO FIGHTING SIOUX! GO SCARLET KNIGHTS!
  3. For those of you who have been following the Sioux for at least a few years, could you tell me a bit about Tim Skarperud. Thanks.
  4. Just wondering what the differences between the two colleges are. For example--type and location of campus, type of students, strengths and weaknesses of each school, are many programs dupicated, are they under one "university system" or are they completely independent...? Thanks
  5. Sioux fans, can the football center be expanded? Thanks. And what in the world is si tanka huron? (not trying to offend anyone)
  6. Hello Cratter, I have to tell you that college hockey is not exactly huge here in New Jersey, but last year I bought a white Sioux jersey(I wish I went with the green) and everywhere I have it on people just look at it for a bit and say "cool jersey." And then I say "SEVEN TIME NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!" I wish my Dad could be more into sports these days, but he has Alzheimers and it is very hard for him to watch ballgames. For some reason though, he can seem to pay more attention to sports like rodeo and Nascar. I just thank The LORD for every day he is with us. Twenty years ago he had several strokes and I don't think any of his doctors thought he would still be alive. Even though we were all blessed to grow up with a great Dad, his Alzheimers has brought us closer to him than ever. People go through their lives thinking they have forever to tell others they love them, but you never know if there is going to be a tomorrow.
  7. Sorry about not knowing how to do the links. I am still learning how to use this machine in my kitchen that makes bread hot!
  8. Here is an article about Zach Parise from today's Newark Star-Ledger.My Webpage-Zach Parise article
  9. Airmail, Thanks that one is not bad. I was hoping to find one that said North Dakota Fighting Sioux, but I don't see one on siouxshop.com. Maybe the one that they sold last April has been discontinued.
  10. Sad to admit that Jerry Izenberg is a Rutgers grad. I was surprised by the article since he is usually not a big fan of the NCAA. If the politically correct thought police have their way, I think the next group of colleges attacked will be those with religious nicknames such as the Holy Cross Crusaders, Siena Saints, etc. GO FIGHTING SIOUX! GO SCARLET KNIGHTS!
  11. Hello espn, It might be different in the Midwest, but here in New Jersey the cable companies have a monopoly. Each individual town grants a license to a cable company(usually for five to ten years). It doesn't happen a lot but every so often, residents of certain towns complain so much about the cable company that they do not have their license renewed. We have eight million people in a very small state and very high income state(except for me). Since, the population density is so high here the cable companies spend a lot less on new lines and structures. I would say the average person here spends between $50-75 a month right now. While the cable company would prefer that to say someone like me who would request a lot less channels and maybe pay only $25-30, that is still better than zero. Also the cable companies do not want to lose the people who also get computer service.
  12. Do any of you know where I can buy a North Dakota bumper sticker. I checked on siouxshop.com and I didn't see any? Thanks.
  13. There are public interest groups around the country trying to get cable companies to offer "a la carte" pricing and channel lineups. Many people do not want stations like E,Bravo, and others coming into their home and they do want their monthly payments going to those channels. Basically, you would pay a certain flat fee per month and then pay for the channels you want. I heard a report on the radio about this and they said they think this is coming within a couple years.
  14. THis guy really seems to have it in for North Dakota. Is there anything to the Hitler/Nazi comments? How often does he write these kinds of stories? People do have a right to write truthful stories and they have a right to their opinion as long as they make it clear it is just an opinion. And customers can always buy another newspaper--unless they live in a one-newspaper town which unfortunately is becoming more common these days.
  15. This is really getting crazy! I hope North Dakota and the other schools don't cave in. A few years ago, Saint John's University in New York changed from Redmen to Red Storm. Nobody has any idea what that nickname has to do with a college in New York City. I am just waiting for people to try to get Rutgers to change our name. Somebody is going to say Scarlet Knights is going to make people go out and start the Crusades again. I hope the PC Thought Police don't come to my house to confiscate my brand new North Dakota jersey because it has an Indian on it and says Sioux. What's next--make all the Catholic colleges take Saint out of their name? Or maybe ban all North and South Carolina colleges from the NCAA because they grow tobacco there? I really think if all the colleges get together to fight this attack on free speech and The Constitution, the NCAA will back down.--And by the way, I am part Indian. I don't say Native American because anyone born in America is a Native American. It doesn't matter if your ancestors came from England, Italy, Kenya, Korea, Sweden, Australia, etc.
  16. I haven't seen any mention of this on the site, but after yesterday, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference coaches are still without a contract. This could cancel all Fall sports for its' members which includes West Chester. The Sioux are scheduled to play them on September 3. A few of the PSAC football coaches have personal contracts with the individual college, but I don't know if the West Chester head coach does or if any of his assistants do. Although there has been a little coverage about the Pennsylvania situation here in New Jersey, it hasn't been a lot. If I hear anything else, I will let you all know. Maybe this has been resolved between North Dakota and West Chester, but as of now all Fall sports for the PSAC colleges are up in the air.
  17. It seems like I picked a good era to start following Sioux hockey! For you long time fans, how does this recruiting class rank on a scale of 1-10? Nationally, where is this incoming North Dakota class ranked? Thanks.
  18. Hello Big, you might not even remember the league, but about five years ago there was another pro football league called the xfl. I think it was run by the pro wrestling guy--vince mcmahon? One of the teams played at The Meadowlands up in northern New Jersey and they were called the New York/New Jersey Hitmen. Nobody went to the games or watched on tv because the level of play was terrible and the players were the ones left after the nfl,cfl,nfl-europe, and the arena league were done signing guys. It folded after one season.
  19. I can't believe you guys heard about this out in North Dakota! This was a news story a couple months ago on a very slow news day. The team was named after a myth about a 13th child who turned into a wild creature/man who roamed the Pinelands of southern New Jersey hundreds of years ago. It has nothing to do with satan. Believe me, if it doesn't bother me, I can't imagine people who have a problem with the New Jersey Devils name. Every few years this comes up and fans just laugh and say let's worry about the NHL ticket prices instead. When the Colorado Rockies moved here, the newspapers had a name the team contest and Devils was picked over Surf, Saints, Gulls, and a couple others.
  20. From the pictures on the websites, your stadium looks great with not a bad seat in the house. --Here at Rutgers( and we have had a lot of bad seasons), one marketing move that has worked well has been to have one game early in the year where every child 12 and under gets in free. Even though the college does not get ticket money from the kids, empty seats don't buy soda, hot dogs, caps, shirts, programs etc. A lot of people who do not have any connection with Rutgers have been showing up for these games.---Now if we could just win more than four games a year......
  21. As you can imagine, there is not a huge amount of newspaper coverage in New Jersey about the Fighting Sioux. For those of you who subscribe, do you like it and feel that it would be worthwhile for fans out of the area to subscribe? Also, when do they start to concentrate on hockey and how long does it take to start receiving the paper once you send a check in? Thanks.
  22. Hello cheeringsioux, I hadn't heard about the California player. Hope he is going to be able to walk ok. Did they catch the driver? I would think that is a very serious crime if he intentionally tried to kill someone with a car.
  23. I know this is a bit early, but any word on how many Sioux hockey games on cable tv networks such as CSTV,Fox Sports, and ESPNU for the 2005-06 season? Thanks.
