  1. So people don't start taking these numbers and pointing out that the Big Sky is costing UND more money... these figures are for the period ending June 30, 2012. UND didn't officially become a member of the Big Sky until July 1, 2012.
  2. Live Chat should be fun today... http://undhockey.areavoices.com/?p=94330
  3. Additionally, if there is a change classification systems to three tiers, there is going to be more movement of teams to conferences that are in the second tier. I can see SDSU and FU being part of the second tier and wanting to align themselves in the right conference for that, but what about USD (small budget) and Omaha (no football). They would be left behind. The Summit is, has been and will be a way station. UND belongs in the Big Sky. It is a stable conference, with a forward thinking commissioner who has his eye on the next move. If there is a move to a 3 tier system, UND is in the right place. If there is no move to a 3 tier system, UND is in the right place.
  4. I don't think I like the $683,453.00 and wonder why it differs so much from the OEP numbers ( http://ope.ed.gov/athletics/InstList.aspx ) which has UND's revenues and expenses balanced at $17,512,292 with a caveat stating... "Men's hockey had an exceptional year with $3,318211.00 in ticket sales for FY12."
  5. When you think back to 2009, UND was embroiled in the Sioux logo issue. So much so that, when USD was invited to join the Summit, UND was not. Douple said that the Summit presidents didn't want to have to deal with the logo issue. By Fall of 2010 the Sioux name was all, but dead. Douple set up what was to be a site visit at UND for November 1-2, with a likely membership offer after the visit. Fortunately, the Big Sky offer came the week before the Summit visit and UND is now in the Big Sky. Thanks to the power of the logo, UND is in the Big Sky and not the Summit.
  6. Argus Leader Q&A with Douple.. http://www.arguslead...-strong-members Even I've learned enough over the past few days to know that the Summit has 4 eligible baseball members....
  7. UND beats SDSU 4-3 with a bizarre 9th inning, per Tom Miller.
  8. Official announcement on Oakland..... http://www.horizonle...ue-in-july.html
  9. Someone needs to check to see if his IP is coming from the SDSU Alumni Association.
  10. Montana coach and AD on the conference realignment issue and where the Montana schools fit.... http://billingsgazet...39b8830334.html
  11. What a difference a couple of years makes. It wasn't that long ago when UND was in search of a conference and had difficulty filling out a football schedule. Now I read some of the Summit boards and some are saying they really need UND (for baseball at the very least), some saying they don't need anybody and that every thing is fine (head in the sand) and still another who says UND can be called up whenever Douple feels like it. When UND was added to the WAC, some on the WAC board questioned why they would take UND. A couple of guys, supposedly in the know, said that it was a strategic move against the Summit. So where the Summit failed, the WAC moved in. UND has presently has a place for all of its teams. It took a lot of work to put that together over the past few years. I don't think Faison/Kelley will simply come running to the Summit because Douple makes a phone call, especially after Douple had the opportunity last year and blew it. Reading over what Fullerton had to say in Tom Miller's piece over the weekend, I like where UND has positioned itself with the Big Sky.... ... http://www.grandfork...icle/id/262923/

  13. When UND joined the Big Sky, Men's tennis had to be added. I don't believe that FU has either men's or women's tennis. On the other hand SDSU already offers both of those sports. Maybe SDSU should be the BIg Sky target.
  14. First thing that came to my mind..... Chump don't want no help, chump don't get no help.
  15. UND split with UTPA today, taking 3 of 4 for the series. Nice to play at home for a change.
  16. Live stream of UND baseball vs UTPA on UNDSports.com UND leads 4-0 in the 4th.
  17. Both the UND Medical and Law schools will see some new facilities in the bill approved by the House and Senate. Higher education budget, funding formula passes From the GF Herald story, the Medical School will get part of the funding in this biennium and the remainder in the next through a loan. ....Higher education budget comes with message: Keep tuition down | Grand Forks Herald | Grand Forks, North Dakota From the proposed plans that I have seen, the campus along Columbia Road will look completely different in 5 years.
  18. UND beats UTPA in doubleheader at Kraft...UND BASEBALL: UND wins opener against Texas-Pan American | Grand Forks Herald | Grand Forks, North Dakota The two teams play again today.
  19. No one is really impacted when Eastern Michigan averages less than 15,000 per game, except Eastern Michigan. When a conference fails to meet the NCAA requirements there is an auto-bid involved. That bid could go somewhere else and there is an impact. I have read the postings where there is a grace period if a conference falls under 6 teams, but have not seen where it says that if you fall to 4 teams the grace period is gone. Can someone point me to that?
  20. No can do. UND is not part of the Dakota Big 3. It might upset some cosmic plan. Besides, the Summit doesn't have Big Sky TV.
  21. So knowing that UND was looking for a place to park baseball, he is either inept for not approaching UND or his bitterness clouds what is best for the conference. Either way it doesn't look good for Douple. Conference membership isn't a one size fits all. The dynamics change from school to school. 89Rabbit posted an alumni map on the sdsufans forum showing that their alumni base is to their east, more so than west. Although I have not seen a UND alumni map, I have heard that UND, other than North Dakota and Minnesota, is more west than east. When the MVC was looking for a new member recently, I posted on another board that SDSU would be the best of the Dakota schools to be chosen due to their location and being more "basketball first" than the other Dakota schools. Of course Lakes blasted it, but that shouldn't surprise anyone. I still say that the BIg Sky is the best conference for UND, as an FCS school.
