    Grand Cities

I have to back jakester on this one -- in an informal poll of persons from my hometown -- everyone has said "goin' ta' forks" -- when asked if they used "The" Forks the response was "that doesn't sound right"...... i.e. Always stated as: "After the football game, let's go into Forks for some pizza." Never, ever "After the football game, let's go into The Forks for some pizza." To take it one step further add in "Grand" --- "After the football game, let's go into Grand Forks for some pizza." compared to "After the football game, let's go into The Grand Forks for some pizza." Regardless of what is proper or not, to us "outsiders" Grand Forks was, and still is, simply "Forks".

    High sticking

? you mean the best offensive defencemen ? Please correct me if I'm wrong but is that same the defensive specialist who was walked on for a short handed goal ? Seriously, I was sure that he was the one Bo schooled -- but I'm probably mistaken. Random thought: I have to go back and watch the tape, but to me it seemed like in the 1st period one of the Sioux players seemed "too" concerned with Ballard -- seemed like he was going out of his way to harass Ballard, and that sort of took away from his offensive play.......... but then again I'm probably mistaken.
  5. With CC in would that mean that the committee would just have UND and CC in the Springs? Then that'd mean the possibility of MN and Duluth in Michigan Or would Duluth be facing a trip out east?? It's not possible that they'd (committee) send UND and Duluth to CC, is it? Even with the loss UND still is ahead of MN in the RPI so UND should go to the Springs since that is a "league" rink/"closer" to home, right?
  6. Off topic -- but if you can't sleep the Maine vs. Mass game is on direct tv "NESN" channel 623 -- 3rd ot just under 13 minutes left --
  7. Didn't BC have 3 the year Mottau won?
  8. 1440am -- not sure if the signal reaches as far as Fargo ...
  9. If anyone else is stuck at home this morning and you have access to a radio, Woog will be on 1440am around 11am. Hopefully they'll talk about the upcoming UMN vs. UW series.
  10. Brady had 2 goals. Don't you have Zach too? (he had 2 assists) ......
  11. That is what our group thought. I was watching #15 skate towards his bench, when I happened to look at the Sioux bench and then I sort of noticed a post-game discussion .... #15 was all over the ice last night, played a good game, but a real pest and the after-game shot(s) will probably be addressed soon.

    UMD vs UND

Just a note ..... between the 1st and 2nd periods on Saturday (the 13th) collection jars will be passed around for donations to help Jason Stadstad and his family with his medical expenses -- a brief video is scheduled to be shown also ... (per The Dakota Student's 12/9/03 edition). And since I'm rambling, in Sunday's paper there was a long article on Jason, in which it was mentioned that Brad Bombardir and the Wild let Jason visit the locker room .....

I believe that Dakota Husby (sp?) on 1310 am is trying to schedule MN Gov. Tim Pawlenty to call in to her show today (after 3pm) to talk about the MN laws regarding the release of sex offenders.

Thank you Sica -- that is the most frustrating, horrible truth that nobody (read: legislature, legal system) seems to address. I guess because the legal system fails in that regard the only answer I can think of is "us". Only through the average Joe/Josephine reporting tips, searching, praying and offering support, pressuring legislature(s) for changes in both the victim's rights and in defendent's rights does Dru have her advocates - but that is poor, cold comfort. It is so hard to fathom that this guy receives all these protections because he decided to harm Dru. There is something seriously wrong with that. I hadn't heard that the SIQ had an attorney. It was mentioned on the radio by Mike Mc. that he received a call from an attorney (type) and informed that he should be careful what he says in regards to the suspect/situation/circumstances.

The generic information that was released at the press conference could be enough to jog the memories/recollections of more potential witnesses -- too much specific information released and the coming forward of potential witnesses could allow the defense team to suggest that the potential witnesses became "confused" and/or were influenced by official police statments. People calling in to the radio are asking "what kind of car was he driving" -- I would hope they don't release that at this point, rather, anyone who thinks "maybe I did see this guy" would call the authorities and say I think I saw that guy in this type of car in this color in the Columbia Mall parking lot ..... if the officials received half a dozen calls which describe a similar car that would be a lot more credible in court rather than a dozen calls describing a car which the police have already released a description of.

    Missing UND student

The arrest of this suspect is huge. Since his arrest and the release of his photo more tips have come in -- one which was mentioned on the radio from an e-mail went that alledgedly a woman walking to her car at the Columbia Mall noticed a person similar to the suspect sitting in the passenger side of a vehicle, she assumed that he was just another "mall husband" waiting for his wife/or the like to come out from the mall, but after seeing his picture that mundane incident flashed through her mind ..... now I'm not going to say that this is the absolute truth since it is definitely 3rd hand info, but, there is a good chance that the incoming tips could give some valuable insight and/or additional clues. I, for one, am totally satisfied with the press conference. 1) warrant was issued, suspect arrested, suspect has a record for crimes which are similar to Dru's dissappearance 2) charged with kidnapping, in ND the victim does not need to be produced in order to prosecute the defendant 3) there was enough evidence to find probable cause so an warrant could be issued 4) it isn't known if the suspect has an attorney All the other information which would be "interesting"/"intriguing" to find out is not information which the public needs. I'm totally confident that the family knows more than the general public. The State's Attorney/police don't want to give the defendant ANY possible chance to find a loop-hole for his defense. There was enough info from which to read between the lines.

Anyone have any ideas about his possible terms of parole --- like can he cross into another state (MN to ND) without receiving permission/authorization?

CNN anchor, Soledad O'Brien, had an interview with Dru's apartment roommate and 3 friends this morning. She mentioned that CNN was planning on covering the 11am (central) press conference scheduled by the GF police dept.

    Sioux to host

Just a heads up for the listening area .... Tomorrow night on 970 am (W-DAY of Fargo) has scheduled an interview with the AD from UNA ... (Tonight there was much discussion regarding the very real possibility of no UND/NDSU football games for the forseeable future .... and the one commentator stated that so long as UND has realistic playoff hopes, they'd (Roger T. et al) be crazy to schedule a Div 1 AA team. A caller (pro-Bison) called in and said that "someone" from the selection committee stated that one game played out of Div II would not impact playoff consideration(s) and/or site decisions; but because UNA played 2 games (and NDSU played 2 also) that is why UNA was chosen to travel. The radio commentator disagreed with the caller; then the commentator stated that EVEN if that was true, the committee might change its mind in the coming year(s) and decide 1 game out of division was 1 too many .... one game, even if against your biggest rival, is not worth risking playoff seedings/site/etc..... I just added this brief synopsis FWIW ... the reason for the post is to note Tuesday's scheduled broadcast.)

I can't even express how I feel .... I'm am so angry, beyond whatever .... news conference at 4pm pray for the family ..... pray for justice
  21. Not that any of this matters, because everyone has stuff go on in their life which can be have an adverse affect ..... but I had heard that Wes' mother passed away while he was at UND, or maybe something else which limited his summer off season and he came back in not the best shape ..... He has been one of my favorite players thru the years, regardless of "living" up to potential or not .... one of my best memories ever of Sioux hockey is his tying goal at the 19:23 mark in the 3rd period in the 2001 NC game against BC, for all the ups and downs of his career, in his final game as a Sioux Blais had him out there for the most important shift of that game.

    Name that Line

So I asked a friend (who's only been to a handful of games) to come up with some catchy names -- well, the ones offered are funny, but not necessarily ones to use: Looney Line (all 3 from MN and the Loon is the state symbol and 'cause they score/rack up points crazily against other teams) The BusyBee Line (as in B(randon) Z(ach) B(rady) BZB) The Royal Line (obviously Brady is the prince since he's the son of a King and well, the other two are similar to your favorite European royals, that while loveable, can run amuck of the law)
  23. The bigger picture isn't Panzer, rather it is in regards to recruiting. Generally a recruit picks a school for various reasons: coaching, schooling, tradition and catching the eye(s) of a recruiter for the NHL. How many HB winners does UND have? one, and that was after a spectacular year Coach X to recruit -- you have great skills we can offer you many things at our school ....... and the icing on the cake is that our athletes have been seriously considered and have on a regular basis received the HB award, we know how to get our players that award ...... (obviously I'm talking about schools like BC & UMN) we have big press connections yada, yada, yada Does the fact that UND not have a HB winner since 1987 mean that UND doesn't get THE good recruit(s), no, but it is something that with some players, could be the factor that tips the scale. I'm not insinuating that those players are shallow and/or glory hounds, it's just another factor to take into consideration -- BC, UMN, UM, UND each have so much similar to offer regarding college and future NHL opportunities that the HB issue could factor in.
