NDSU is paying there coach a base salary of 260k for them to promote the DC to HC. Why are we so shocked with the quality of applicants when our minimum salary on the position is at 150k. Coaches follow the paycheck and you get what you spend......The bottom line is we need a minimum of 250k IMHO to get the caliber of coach we are discussing on here. At our salary we get Bubba and Deboer....

Yup....dropped the ball on this one

If I was Brian and had a guy in mind this is what I would do. Wait for all interviews to be done and then call the person you have in mind and say "you are the most qualified so go ahead and submit the app and I know you will be hired". That would be a way around the open records law. By the time the applicants name is announced the job is already his. I say that because Brian has a lot of D1 AD experience and I can't see him screwing something up so much. Hope that is the case.....

What I meant was he probably had a verbal commitment from someone and the they backed out prior to applying. Or maybe they waited until this week to apply after the job closed and he was ensured the job would be his. Just speculating though.
-
My gut is telling me that it is DeBoer just because he was apparently asked to apply.
-
I think he probably had a guy in mind and maybe that person fell through. ..I highly doubt he delayed for the sake of extending the process, unless it was to try and get a higher pay.
-
In my opinion the 11th if you pencil whipped all the interviews until you got to your fuy....realistically if you had a couple in mind it might take an additional day. It certainly should have been done last week though.

Any high school coach that could work out would be above our pay grade. Most of those big time high school coaches already make more than what UND would pay.

Early playing time, the addition of a indoor practice field, playing in a dome, a top notch education that is respected nation wide, and playing in an established FCS conference. This job has a huge amount of opportunity to it and will be able to stay competitive recruiting regardless of the head coach
-
I believe his OC at GVSU is also a head coach at the FBS level now.
-
I base that on Hardee, who we all know turned around the volleyball program. I don't place blame on him for the recent event as he had no way of for seeing that event. He also handled it quite well in my opinion. He has already directly lead 1 program being turned around and I have given him the benefit of the doubt because of that. Hopefully there are similar results this time.

To put the loss of the Sioux name on him is ignorant IMHO. He has done a great job and made some good hires here. That being said, a lot of his legacy will depend on this hire
-
I like DeBoer as a HC, but after all this delay if someone is hired off of the original list, I would be dissapointed. I have given Faison the benefit of the doubt but there is no excuse for this unless it is a surprise hire. I will withhold my judgment until the hire is announced.

Dressler had much better hands in my opinion. I still wonder how good Hardin could have been if he didn't have so many drops.

Averaged 77 yards passing/game and was 94th in the nation in offensive scoring.....with 3 wins. Thanks and no thanks
-
Was not aware of that, I retract my previous statement.
-
I honestly don't mind that either, He seems like he would have a certain energy to him that we need. Just have no clue who he would pick as his defensive coordinator.
-
Damn.....I was really hoping he was going to be the guy....

They are relevant questions and I agree there are differences. My point was just that HR plays a role in every hiring process with varying degrees of importance.
-
Haha ya that's the worst kind of surprise. Especially when the person was otherwise all on your list
-
HR has certain things that automatically disqualify an applicant for a job. I am not sure if that's what happened to Pflu or if Faison put the stop to it, but if he was automatically knocked out by HR because of the Montana thing I would have no problem. I work in hiring for a worldwide company of more than 250,000 employees and work with HR on hiring on a weekly basis and it is the same way. I have say for a lot of stuff, but there are still guidelines. It is my job to get the candidate I want, if a person fails the background check or doesn't meet minimum requirements than there is nothing even I can do. I am not saying it is right or wrong on the HR process, just that it is normal for HR to be involved, often times more so than I like.

I am at work and did a quick look and didn't come across anything of concern....is there something I missed?
-
I would agree, would be a great hire
-
He has earned it. ..When he proves that is isn't doing his job I will start questioning him more. He has earned my respect and has done a great job while here. Let the process play out is all I am saying.

We are talking about a coach not reporting a rape accusation...This goes beyond NCAA violations. I wouldn't want someone like that leading 18-22 year olds. By not reporting them he effectively covered them up.....let's look at our priorities a bit here
