They’ve made the frozen 4 twice in the last 4 years, including making the national championship game. Combine that with having a really good recruiting cycle so far and a new hockey-only NIL collective, I don’t anticipate them being in bad shape. But man I hope they bring the same game they played last weekend to the Ralph this coming weekend

I see where you’re coming from, but I’ll respectfully disagree. The 2019-2020 team was on a different level of intensity and skill as well. Guys like Colton Poolman and Cole Smith brought so much soul to that team that it bled through to the rest. It even carried into 2020-2021 as that team may have been even better in some ways.

He probably worked as part of St Cloud’s hockey broadcast team at his previous job.

Verhoeff and Laurila are going to get some good reps in early. Plus with guys like Strathmann and Jubenvill who are already proven at the college level, we can afford an injury like this to let guys fully heal up.

I mean they have to go off of what they saw and Penn State deserved to win both nights this weekend as they were easily the better team. A road sweep against an NCHC team isn't an easy thing to do. I watched 4 of 6 periods this weekend and they are legit. They were better defensively than I was expecting.

What I’m saying is that they’ll probably try to have a right D-man on the ice any time they can when 5x5. We have 3 RHD so the likelihood of 2 being on the same pair for a full game is lower.

Yeah offensively he didn’t bring a lo but that wasn’t his job. EJ without the puck is an unreal defenseman; he is a top 4 guy on this team for shutting down opposing players.

On the pipeline show he said they are better than what a lot of people think due to their forward depth. Said goaltending should be decided quick because their freshman from the USHL coming in has been dominant the last 2 seasons. I’d still pick them lower than ASU, though. I think Omaha is going to be the team that is sneaky good and finishes higher than predicted, guessing 6th. Duluth will also be on a different level than they were last year. Not saying Duluth finishes top 3, but I think Schloss has then accurate at 5.

I’d much rather we play Auggie or Bemidji fir exhibitions going forward (once our thanksgiving contract with BSU ends). Playing Toba has run its course since we don’t get anything from it.

Agreed but Fersch has proven we can't predict what they are going to do. Just an absolute wildcard haha. I mean there probably wasn't a soul last year pre-season that would have put them at #1 for Penrose, winning league champ, or a natty. Just a clinic in coaching, it was unreal.

I thought about that but I have this weird thing about loading up all right-handed forwards onto one line since we don't have many of them. No matter how the lines shake out, teams are going to have a rough time matching up against our 3rd line. We may not have the most potent top 6 right away, but Heaven help those teams that have to try to match us with depth at forward and D when we have a lead.

Keep in mind that the Herald comes out with that massive pre-season special every year that will have about a dozen different articles in it. I'm guessing schloss is working on all of that. Simma donna

Let’s get this started. I want to see what other people think lines could look like early on. Here’s my uneducated guess based off of stats, what we’ve heard about these guys, age, college experience, etc. Swanson-Rickwood-Zellers James-Reschny-Strinden Menghini-Littler-Kernan Zakreski-Josephson-Croal Andrew-Klee-Young Livanavage-Zmolek Wiebe-Verhoeff Strathmann-Emery Laurila(Extra skater)-Jubenvill Engel Homer Spunar Sandy *Guessing Young, Klee, and Zakreski will battle it out for the 12th forward spot but I have a feeling Zakreski will rise due to higher potential for offense and apparently he’s well-conditioned based off his Iron Man results. Even though Klee is a draft pick, he might be fighting to get in this season as he gets acclimated to the college game as a huge guy. *Zmolek may get eased in due to not having played in a year but he’ll ramp up quick. Maybe Emery plays top pair with Livanavage to start the year. Extra skater will probably always be D so we can get weekly reps for Verhoeff and Laurila as well as keeping Strathmann and Jubenvil rolling.

Question for the insiders like @stoneySIOUX. Who are you hearing is looking really good in practice? Which freshmen are surprising the group and/or which guys seem like they are looking as if they will take a big step compared to last year?

I partially agree; but it’s not like Omaha is grabbing an entire team and bringing them in. They are taking the best players from those teams and many of them will be older and physically ready for the league. When we play Manitoba, those teams maybe have 1-2 solid players that could play higher leagues but they are harder to notice because they are surrounded by 18 other mediocre guys.
