I've heard that there is a scrimmage open to the public at 7:00 pm tomorrow. I believe it's free of charge.
-
Your smart phone knows that you want UND's new nickname to be North Dakota so it's mocking you for being redundant.

In looking at the roster, I see a D-Lineman by the name of Kemuel Denny? Is he a Freshman or a transfer? I don't recall seeing/hearing that name before... EDIT: Nevermind, I see on Wiki that he is a freshman from Indianapolis. Just don't recall hearing his name during the recruiting process.

Yep, Erberts and Gerberts or Jimmy Johns. and of course Red Pepper..

NCAA To Sanction UND if School Does Not Adopt New Nickname
dmksioux replied to Benny Baker's topic in UND Nickname
Just for clarification purposes, I don't believe it will be the fans that create the issues. It will be the vocal minority who are offended by the Sioux name that will cause the issues. They will begin holding protests, contacting university presidents, etc. The fans may do it just because they are college kids afterall and that's what college kids do. The NCAA won't care about what chants fans are doing at a game. The NCAA will care when they start hearing from the vocal minority, University Presidents, etc. -

NCAA To Sanction UND if School Does Not Adopt New Nickname
dmksioux replied to Benny Baker's topic in UND Nickname
UND won't take the NCAA to court. The NCAA will only act once other School President and/or activists start complaining. At that point (when the activists/Presidents start complaining), they will simply pass new legislation stating members need to have a nickname, or something similar. Don't think they will do that? Just look back to how they changed the rules regarding Native American nicknames when this whole mess started. They essentially took decision making away from members and gave it to an executive committee which resulted in an easier, quicker way for them to change NCAA policy as they see fit. Have most of the "No nickname" proponents not learned anything in this whole process? -

You are correct that they can't sanction UND for what people where or say. But they can propose NCAA legislation stating all members need to have an official nickname. -
NCAA To Sanction UND if School Does Not Adopt New Nickname
dmksioux replied to Benny Baker's topic in UND Nickname
Exactly. If/when the vocal minority make some noise start complaining to conference Presidents, which in turn complain to the NCAA, the the NCAA will take action. As we've learned before, they have an executive board that can propose and vote on policy changes. If the NCAA sees that UND isn't in violation by not choosing a new nickname, they will just enact a new policy stating members need to have an official nickname. -

So basically what I said in my last post a few pages back. The NCAA won't do anything until they are forced to act. Currently the stakeholders could vote for a different name than "no nickname." If "no nickname" is selected, it's fine until the vocal minority starts it's complaining and getting the attention of Big Sky/NCHC Presidents, etc...which won't take long. No need for the NCAA to do anything else at this point. No consipiracy theories here, UND needs to pick a new name, otherwise it's a matter of time until someone starts complaining that "no nickname" is by default, keeping UND the Fighting Sioux. -

So is there an easy way to navigate from the forums to the "home" page where the wiki links, tweets, articles are posted? -

Hey Jim, is the wiki page gone now? EDIT: Ok, I see that it is still there. However, once you go to the "Forum" page, how do you get back to the "Home Page" where you can look at wiki, news stories, tweets, etc? -
It won't be the biggest in terms of what's at stake, but it will be the most hyped regular season game as far as North Dakotans (not nodaks ) are concerned. Bison fans can deny it if they'd like, but this game will get the casual fans across the state paying attention and picking sides the weeks leading up to the game.
-
Not sure if it is or not. According to the wiki schedule, UND plays every week starting September 3rd with SB except for November 12th, which is their bye week before their last game on November 12th. So I would guess it isn't a 12 game season next year. The way I read the B1G release is that they won't be playing FCS after the 2016 season so Iowa's game with NDSU will most likely go on. If not, NDSU will probably take the buyout and schedule a home game. Besides, I plan to go to the Stony Brook game so I don't want that to be bought out!
-
Has Iowa bought out that game or will the B1G honor existing contracts? Also, considering UND has 11 games scheduled, it's highly unlikely. Their OOC games area return game to Stony Brook and paycheck game at Bowling Green.

In order of preference: 1. Roughriders- ND is the Roughrider state, Highest award is the Roughrider award, it's unique to NCAA athletics, many marketing/logo opportunities (horse, Teddy,) etc. 2. No name- (not realistic as I've described in my post that you quoted) 3. Start the process over if Roughriders doesn't win because the rest stink. This is why I selected No Nickname as #2 because it virtually guarantees we will be doing it all over again until a name is selected. So Vote on RR and No Name and see what happens. I too tend to think RR might not make the final vote, which would be unfortunate. -

I have no doubts the vocal minority will fire up it's protest machine. I was just sharing my thoughts on what the NCAA is doing at this point. There is no reason for them to be the "bad guy" at this point when there are options that could happen such as the President eliminating it for them, the Public vote eliminating it, or the very slim chance that the vocal minority won't care. Should none of those happen, then I can see the NCAA stepping up and doing one of two things: point to the settlement agreement saying it's in there, or if they feel it's not a strong enough case to prove it's in the settlement, they will just go to their "executive committee," and change their by-laws requiring member schools to select a nickname. Some of us understand this and don't want to have to go through this whole cycle again and form new committees, select names, vote, etc. Others on here like to gamble and are betting that the vocal minority won't step up if we don't pick a nickname. Or that if a new nickname isn't chosen, that perhaps the NCAA will ignore the vocal minority this time. Those are rather slim odds if you ask me, which is why I'm in favor of selecting a new name now, because I fee Roughriders is a very suitable replacement. EDIT: The other reason I posted this is because the whole argument about what the settlement says or doesn't say is moot. Ultimately it's going to come down Nickname A or No Nickname. The NCAA is allowing the process to play out before getting invovled, and only doing so once they are forced. So, after this post we can stop arguing about the settlement...right??? -
NCAA To Sanction UND if School Does Not Adopt New Nickname
dmksioux replied to Benny Baker's topic in UND Nickname
Ok, here's my whole take. The NCAA may have been asked if "no nickname" was an option. Maybe they provided an answer, and it is ok. Or, more likely, they chose not to give an answer, meaning that it is initially ok to use. I truly believe the NCAA won't come out and say yes it's ok at this point. Either they are going to say no or not give an answer. This way, if they don't give the answer, they give the people of ND the opportunity to "do the right thing" and pick a new name with out being the bad guy by taking away the "no nickname option. However, should the "no nickname" option win the vote then there could be issues. Will the NCAA step forward and say they won't allow it, probably not. However, should the NA activists start making noise, protesting, threatening legal litigaion, etc...because the Sioux chants are still happening, etc then you can be rest assured, the NCAA will come out and say we haven't met the terms and will force us to go through the process of picking a name again. If the NCAA needs to, they will change their by-laws making member schools have a nickname because, as we've all learned, the NCAA can do basically what they want. In this scenario, the NCAA doesn't have to get involved until they are 'forced' as their are several "out" options that could keep it from getting to the point of protests again...ie the vote selects a new name, or no nickname is selected and the NA activists don't have an issue with it. This is my .02 on how the NCAA views it. -
