My best experience at an away game was at Mariucci 12 years ago. I took my dad to the VA in Minneapolis for a 2nd opinion. He was given 18 months and that was 17 months prior. A young Oncologist told him 30 days tops. I had tickets for a Sioux-Gopher game from a vendor. My dad was a 100% a$$hole after that prognosis. He made people go back up to the concourse and come down the other side of the section to get to their seats. About halfway through the 3rd period, I tried to call for a cab to get a ride back to the Amtrak station so we could get back to Grand Forks. I couldn't get the dispatch person to understand where we were to come and get us. The guy sitting next to me asked what I needed, I told him that I was trying to arrange for a cab. He asked me where I needed to go and I told him. He offered to get his car, drive up to the sidewalk and pick us up and bring us to the train station. The guy was Joe Dziedzic. He had played his college career for the Gophers and he will never forget playing the Sioux in Grand Forks. His college career ended in the Old Ralph with wrist being broken. He did go on to play with Pittsburg in NHL. I am still in awe of the human kindness he showed my father and I.A class act. My dad died of lung cancer 26 days later.
