  1. Some of what the "experts" were talking about when predicting the 500 to 600 student drop was the number of students who didn't even bother applying. These students assumed the committee would choose to deny them, so they looked at other schools. While it is true that students were admitted by committee decision and not soley by the automatic standards, there were students that were turned off by the concept of "automatic vs. committee" admissions and just didn't apply.
  2. You know, GrahamKracker, by lumping every person that posts on this board into one group, you are participating in the same type of ignorance and bias that you work so hard to end. Your posts say "you" think this and "you" do that. You don't know me. You are making assumptions and by doing so you are behaving like those horrible ignorant folks who believe stereotypes represent an entire group. I think it is great that you are willing to fight for your beliefs, even if I don't share some of your opinions. People without passion are empty souls. However, please stop disrespecting me by assuming that you know what I think and feel.
  3. My home town is right on the Missouri River and there is a huge battle going on regarding releasing water downstream. The farmers downstream use the river water for irrigation, and the towns upstream use it for tourism (fishing, boating, etc.). Well, which livelihood is more important? The governors from each state are fighting each other tooth and nail. According to the hometown paper, the last time the govs met, Montana's governor almost got into a fistfight with Missouri's governor (I'm pretty sure it was Missouri, not 100 percent, but there was almost a fight). If it comes down to draining Garrison, it will get very, very ugly. It doesn't seem so 'round here, but the western part of ND, SD and eastern MT has been going through a really tough drought the last few years.
  4. It drives me nuts when people say they aren't trying to talk smack when in the same post act disrespectful. It's UND. UND. not UND (that's German, silly). I'm not claiming to be an expert or even unbiased, but I do believe you can give yourself more credibility by avoiding things like this. I like having different perspectives on this board, and I don't think it's too much to ask to, when having a discussion (and not talking smack), give respect where it is due.
  5. I don't think they could hire someone without a PhD (like IowaBison said)
  6. According to the Athletics website, payment is due June 15, 2005 link
  7. I never want to say someone should be out of a job, but I think it is time for something new with the men's basketball team. It wasn't any records or percentages that formed my decision, it came a few seasons back, when Jeff Brandt was around. Now, I don't have season tickets to MBB, but I do try to listen to the games on the radio when I can (since I only heard the games, and didn't see them, I may be making skewed conclusions). Anyway, to have so much of your offense revolve around Jeff Brandt was ridiculous. You live by the three, you die by the three. What happened to actually setting up inside plays? Now, I am sure the argument can be made that he was a showboat, but no coach should allow that to happen, either. It seems like the team relies so much on one player. Beasley was amazing, but once he came in it was like for a while there the JUCOs were the answer to everything Ever since then I have been noticing little things that seem to never change. How many times has Glas, after a loss stated "we need to get back to fundamentals." To me, the fundamentals should be like breathing. Crash the boards! I think he is a great guy, and it seems like the players love him, but I feel like those same players could achieve so much more than they have.
  8. I have been reading this, and haven't chimed in because it seems like my opinion has been stated by others (probably a whole lot more eloquently than I could ever do) but now I have to type something: Josh, you say that the opinion piece isn't a good place to dispell rumors, but what makes it a good place to perpetuate them? Why did it need to be brought up in the first place? If the point was to say that you have school pride and to instill it in your readers, why mention Ralph Engelstad? Why not compare Gerald Ford to, say, UND graduate Jim Kleinsasser, who also plays football like the former pres. did? Yeah, people have different opinions on Ralph, and I'm seeing that people have a lot of different opinions on you, too. I have read many times that you are a horrible journalist. Does that make it true? You say your statement of Mr. Engelstad being a Nazi Sympathizer is true. Now, I am a scientist and not claiming to be a journalist, but that statement is not true. Had you stated: remembered outside of the state as an accused Nazi sympathizer, it would be true. Do you know that he was a sympathizer? Really know? If he didn't tell you himself, you have in fact made a false statement. Yeah, it's an opinion piece, an you are absolutely entitled to your opinion. It's the way you support your opinion with half-truths and by belittling another that causes problems. I just find it hard to believe that the students at Michigan need someone making fun of North Dakota to instill school pride.
  9. I am definitely not taking sides here, but can anyone explain to me a LOGICAL reason why cheers have to include swearing?
  10. It's basically the main boardroom of the university, where all of the big meetings take place. It has leather chairs and a long table that seats probably 15 people. There are a bunch of chairs along the wall, too.
  11. This needs a whole lot of work, but for those that are going to the CC/DU game (or if we play them on Saturday) Sign with CHEAP PLAYERS at the top, and two photos, one of a $20 DVD player (blown up I suppose so people know what it is) and a photo of our favorite DU skater, Paukovich Just an idea
  12. Psst...trash-talker: Quinn Fylling Check out what he was doing the 2000-2001 series. I actually don't think the overtime wins mean as much as you think they do...one could say that it means the Sioux had less struggles with highly competitive teams I would maybe even believe your theory about having jitters...if this wasn't a team we have played three times already this season.
  13. Apparently my picks didn't register correctly...I'm not on the board at all. Unless I have severe memory loss, I should be somewhere in the 6 point range.
  14. I apologize if this is posted in another thread, I didn't have time to read through them all. Last night on WDAZ, they showed a Sweeney interview of Robbie and he said that it looks good for him to come back to hockey. Crazy! There is a link to the interview at WDAZ's website:Link
  15. Did anyone else notice that on the selection show every time they showed clips of a WCHA team they were playing the Gophers? Every single clip.
  16. I saw it on TV, too. I think Sweeny or Bredahl even said something about what the Sioux fans were doing. The best part was the Red River players (I am assuming it was them, since they all had bleached hair) standing in the walkway between the students and the PB. They got a pre-game shower!
  17. Don't lump me in with the doofi, but I love my iPod. I travel alot. When I say alot, I mean last year I put on about 10,000 miles (in a car...I have no idea how many miles I packed in flying), and having my iPod was nice. I have a transmitter that lets me play it through the radio in my car. Much easier than carrying around CDs or trying to find a radio station in the middle of nowhere. I do agree that it probably isn't all that cutting edge in a technology sense, but I am still happy to have all of my songs with me on the road.
