  1. Not playing? He had, what, 19 carries to Olivera's 22? Go with the hot hand, but remember where you keep your stash.
  2. Not trying to polish anything. Once you get beyond longing for the "good old days" of the Sioux logo and come to the realization that it is not coming back, you move on to respecting the traditions, cherishing the memories, and cheering for the University of North Dakota and its new identity. If you replace the knee jerk rejection of anything that is not "Fighting Sioux" with an appreciative look at the new logo, you begin to see that SME did a remarkable design and produced a logo that you can be proud to display if for no other reason than IT IS the symbol for UND athletics and I will support UND and its athletics in any avatar they choose. It is time to move ahead, because Didn't say anything about "unique" but for those who believe the old logos were "unique" look at and compare them to the Chicago Blackhawks logo, the Washington Redskins logo, the Florida State logo, the retired Dartmouth logo, the Eastern Michigan Hurons logo, the AHL Springfield logo (which ahas an alternate 'geometric' design, and the interlocking ND of Notre Dame which has the 'N' behind the 'D' on the right instead of the left. Unique may be in the eye of the beholder.

  4. A real hit! They managed to incorporate elements from the old Sioux logos in a subtle way and came up with a real winner. Three feathers like the Brien and Blackhawk logos and the "N" is a tribute to the Geometric logo. It is as "Sioux" looking as could possibly be done and at the same time it is the new identity. I was hoping that they could find a way to honor the past while moving forward and they hit it. Roll out the merchandise.
  5. Pete Waselovich had 3,500+ career saves - no other goalie at UND has approached 3,000. He kept a very bad series of teams in games they had no way to win, stayed 4 years as a Boston draft pick.
  6. In Brian Faison'sremarks about how discontinuing men's golf and baseball and a $1.5 million increase in revenue, the athletics department would meet its required budget adjustments. How much of a ticket price increase will be needed to add $1.5 million in revenue? Are there other revenue sources that I do not know about that are reliable and sustainable (that seems to be a revenue prerequisite if the baseball donation rejection is the standard), other than ticket price increases? At what point do increased ticket prices turn an arena into an empty void like has occurred at Yankee Stadium? The revenue thing struck me and I hadn't seen any comment on it so I thought I'd ask.

    2016 Season

If I recall correctly Vince Lombardi told his players their priorities were (in order) to God, Family, and the Green Bay Packers. Do we really think these kids should be held to a HIGHER standard than that?
  8. Agreed - If Minnesotans are offended, too bad - you had a chance to use it and opted not to. We will put the name to good use and make it famous.
  9. For a real naming controversy look into what the Province of Quebec is faced with having something like 8 locales that contain the "N" word in their names. N Rock and N Falls are two I remember. It seems that all of these place names were given as memorials to runaway slaves and there is a real opposition to attempts by the Quebec parliament to change them. Part of the population does not want to lose the historic connection that preserving these names ensures. Calhoun, Fighting Sioux, and __. It is amazing what can happen when context is ignored and decisions are made based on what is on the surface.
  10. Now there is a thought there will be no argument or obfuscation about. This team has a LOT of talent, it will be great fun when it all starts to come together consistently.
  11. Maybe the passing is not as efficient or the setting is not as precise so the opponent has more options in their attack. Maybe the serve game is off a little also creating more options. Maybe the block combinations have not completely gelled yet and are leaving too many openings. The raw stats don't really speak to the nuances and not being on the coaching staff, I am not seeing exactly what the coaches are seeing. Maybe it is time to start a "Fire Pryor" thread (that comment was totally sarcastic and I apologize for that, but will still leave it out there).
  12. A back row player cannot block, so how will rotating through the back help Dooley's stats?
  13. It is totally insipid - we are asking our warriors to go to battle for UND and the beauty of the sky on a cold winter day. I don't give a damn what Shakespeare had to say about sundogs it doesn't come close to Jon Casey spraying the front of his jersey with a water bottle and explaining that the warrior was fighting just as hard as anyone and needed a drink of water too. That is what a nickname and logo should inspire - not a desire to stand in admiration of the beauty of an ice rainbow.
  14. help what numbers? I haven't seen that she can kill out of the back row and she certainly can't block from there.
  15. All of these guys were/are very good and deserve a place in every Sioux football fan's heart, but I don't think your list is complete if Dean Witkowski is not included in the conversation. He played in a 4 - 3 scheme and virtually covered sideline to sideline. It was unfortunate that the teams he played on were not at an elite level (much like what Ratelle is experiencing) and his exposure beyond the faithful was somewhat limited. I do believe he was drafted by Green Bay.
  16. The next leader probably does not have a chance in hell of succeeding, because we have created a culture of contempt for those in leadership positions at UND. It will take until February 1, 2016 for the first "Fire -----" movement to begin and earlier than that if a student in a leadership position gets a parking ticket.
  17. I really don't understand the cannibalism that surrounds this university. Fire Kelley, Fire Mussman, Fire Jones, Fire Hakstol, Fire Faison, Fire DiLorenzo, Fire the faculty that take an opposing stand on the nickname, get the nickname thing over with, but don't make a real decision. Why anyone would want to take any position with this university is beyond my understanding, but thank God there are people who will try. What was the last "Fire -------" movement that came out of NDSU? For some reason they seem satisfied with their leadership and allow them to make decisions that have led to great success. It's difficult to lead when you have to be constantly looking over your shoulder to see who is coming after you.
  18. If you are "holding out" for Screaming Weasels, why submit two choices, neither of which is indeed "Screaming Weasels"?
  19. Good point, the women have at least given themselves an opportunity to right the ship while the men's team leaves you wondering if they will ever be able to find a way to extend leads, make clutch baskets down the stretch, and finish games. These are big issues and I don't know how you go about instilling or teaching these things.
  20. SEEMS like we've regressed? I have seen lesser regression from a 5th grader with ADD. This team has taken gigantic steps backward and the turnover situation has returned to where it was 2 years ago. It would be tempting to institute a 15 second rule - when the shot clock gets to 15 whoever has the ball shoots before they turn it over. At least the men's team loses close games.
  21. If I am not mistaken, this was a hockey game. What did this sign have to do with events on the ice? I don't appreciate people distracting from the actual event going on so that their petty little gripes can be aired in public. I suspect that one of them got a parking ticket and of course that is the fault of the president of the university. There is a time and a place - I'm sure the Dakota Student would be willing to run a letter to the editor, or publish an article if one of them wanted to write it. This to me is just another example of the self-centered, entitled attitude that so many students exhibit, and another example of boorish behavior on their part (the moment of silence interruption at the last home series is another). Be loud, be boisterous, be creative, but this is HOCKEY, not a political rally so don't try to hijack it for your own selfish reasons. End of rant.
  22. Unless the coach who had advocated so strongly for the move to DI had actually stayed on.
  23. Or to borrow from the Chicago background Da versity
  24. Pelawa never played a game at UND - Terry Casey was an All-American at UND. Why would you retire a number for someone who never played (and what number would you retire if you did)?
