Good news on Chaves making his expectations known and clear. Based on your post, looks like no extension then unless Bubba has a very good season in 2022.

Bubba started as a head coach almost 20 years ago, and personally I don't think he is going to change unless it was forced on him, and even then not sure what that looks like. I am not sure who would/could do that. As you say, the AD seems to be AWOL on this and even the guys on 360(his brother and Kelly) don't really acknowledge how bad some of the game management etc was this fall, at least not publicly. I think Bubba has 2 years left on his current contract, so a decision on that will be forced over the next 12 months. What are the scenarios? Best case scenario(a few of us have to eat our words, especially me) Bubba gets the game management cleaned up, the holes get filled on D, the offense is markedly better and we can kick FG's. UND wins 9-11 regular season games, top 3 MVFC, playoff seed and makes a playoff run. Scenario 2: Same game management but the the rest of the above happens. UND wins 5-8 games Scenario 3: Same game management and the team is not as good as 2021. UND wins 3-5 games. Scenario 4: Same game management, the team is not as good and we start 0-4. UND wins less than 4 games. Top scenario or if Bubba wins 7+ games, he has contract extended and if its scenario 1, I am firmly on board with that. If Bubba wins 6 or less games what Chaves, etc do? Obviously there are other variables my scenarios don't address like crowd size, program excitement level, a victory over NDSU and less than 7 wins, etc. What does everyone think? Is it possible Chaves still gives him an extension this winter?

100% agree with this, Bubba is an awesome person and is a great representative of UND. We will all get fired up right before the fall 2022 season and be thinking about championships and hardware(including myself), but the reality is I would be willing to bet we finish with no higher than 6 wins and more likely between 3 and 5 unless we somehow start the season a minimum of 2-2. Can definitely see a 3-1 finish to the season, just need to get through the first 7.

Here is link to MIDCO signing day special. Some good looking recruits.

Thanks. Glad Morrison is back.. That is big. Larson will be missed.

Here is updated 2 -deep from the SDSU game. Canady, Turner, Larson, Holm and Galvin especially started a ton of games for us over the last 4-5 years. Need some guys to really step up this spring and next fall.

Any way to watch the MIDCO signing show? Is the Noah thing for sure?

The worthwhile transfers likely already have found a home. -
Not sure why this matters. Did you not watch the game? UND should have won the game.

Is there anyone on SS who is more defensive of a 5-6 program than yourself? -
Here is my first post on this thread. IMO, this fall was our chance, Bubba's chance, UND's chance to take it to the next level. We pissed that chance down our collective leg, and I am just not over it yet. I will still write my checks, buy my season tickets, and hopefully get over it soon. I just think the future for UND football is now really cloudy.

8 years in, I'm no longer willing to accept, "we were close" or "the guys played hard", when 2 of our 3 biggest rivals are still playing. The games vs NDSU and SDSU were very winnable. I guess I overlooked our wins... Beat IdSU(1-10), Drake(2-9), WIU(2-9), IllSU(4-7), & YSU(3-7)...a combined 12-42. Which other highlights from this fall did I overlook? Again after 8 years, "quality losses" are no longer acceptable. Ask yourself, am I being negative or just realistic and what are your expectations?

From a team perspective, I can’t imagine the staff would let him back in. -
Looking ahead to the schedule next fall, needs to be a very likely win.

Going through 2022 schedule and trying to make a prediction on 12/12/2021 for the 2022 season. Tommy will be the QB to start the season. Offense will be roughly the same as 2021(Losing Otis will hurt), defense will not be able to fill the losses to defection and graduation. @Nebraska - L N Iowa - "TOSS UP" - Huge game. A must win. @NAU - "TOSS UP" - another huge game. @SIU - L - SIU program is rising quickly, on the road. MSU - W(as long as UNI or NAU are wins) @YSU - based on the game in November and UND record on the road over the years - L BYE SDSU - "Toss-up" - coming off a bye week and at home TBD - Need a D1 patsy(pioneer league team) - W @ISU - W - Indiana State is bad. USD - W - USD will be have a down year, Nielsen is avg coach, running avg program @NDSU - L Need the TBD to be a "sure" win. HAVE to beat UNI at home or NAU on the road or the season could get away from us. Win them both and a top half MVFC and playoff berth is not out of the question. 6 games(4 at home) vs 2021 playoff teams plus @Nebraska.

WR and a couple spots on offense I would agree, but SDSU has holes as does NDSU, they are both still playing.
-
So you are saying we were competitive in all those games because Bubba and co took inferior talent and made them that much better? Is that what you really believe?
-
Would be a big get for UND. After losing Maglii we need a spark.
-
Absolutely. So your thesis is it was our dazzling game/clock management techniques vs the SU’s in 2021 were the reason we very well could have been 3-1 vs 1-3? Watch the NDSU or SDSU game from this fall again and tell me where they were dominant from a talent/physical point. The NDSU game last spring the coach’s just plain sh!t the bed before the game and that translated to our poor performance into the field. Don't believe me? Ask yourself if Entz and co would have lost both games if they were coaching the UND team and bubba and co were coaching NDSU. Bubba and co expect "to compete", Entz and co expect to win.
-
So you are saying we have a recruiting advantage over the SU’s because we are home and they are still chasing hardware? Did you think about this comment?
-
Yes. The talent is roughly equal. The coaching and subsequent culture is not. That was never more obvious than in many of the games this fall.
-
That early lead and the first 40 minutes vs NDSU we’re the highlights of an otherwise dismal season.
