per brad http://www.areavoices.com/undhockey/ Martens to play in Germany Another member of UND's large senior class has found a home to play pro hockey. Ryan Martens has signed to play for EHC Dortmund in Germany. Martens already has gone to Germany and is participating in the team's training camp. It appears that Martens will be playing with at least one American and former WCHAer on the team. MSU-Mankato's Jake Brenk, a Detroit Lakes native, is on the roster. Martens is coming off of a big senior year, in which he tallied more points (22) than he did in his first three years combined (19). He played different roles throughout the season, including the point on the power play. Martens' signing leaves three players from last year's senior class unsigned -- Matt Watkins, Zach Jones and Aaron Walski, who said last year that he wasn't sure he would attempt to play pro hockey. UND's senior class Ryan Duncan -- Salzburg Red Bulls (Austria) Brad Miller -- Austin/Idaho Steelheads Ryan Martens -- EHC Dortmund (Germany) Andrew Kozek -- Atlanta Thrashers/Chicago Wolves Joe Finley -- Washington Capitals/Hershey Bears Matt Watkins Zach Jones Aaron Walski

parise voted best american player per brad from nhl.com NHL says Parise is the best American NHL.com says Zach Parise is the best American player in the game. The league's site has been ranking the top players from each country and it released the list of Americans today. Here's what the site had to say about the former Sioux forward: 1. Zach Parise, F, New Jersey -- Parise was a big reason the Devils won the Atlantic Division in 2008-09. He ranked third in the League in goals (45), fifth in points (94), tied for first in overtime goals (3) and tied for seventh in game-winning goals (8) while setting a team record for shots in a season (364). so the roster should look like this it it stays like is and the only thing is adding a 3rd goalie F VANDEVELDE ZAJAC FRATTIN MALONE TRUPP DAVIDSON GREGOIRE HEXTALL LAMOUREUX TOEWS CICHY KRISTO ROWNEY BRUNETEAU D GENOWAY LAPOINT MARTO BLOOD FIENHAGE MACWILLIAM GLEASON HILL G EIDSNESS DELL ?

he is if atlanta thinks so and it seems thats the case. he had a great ushl season last year. it may be what he needs and thats what atlanta is deciding or has decided. hes first 3 round draft pick and we know he has the skills to be good. i hope he does great if so and stays healthy! chicago as of now will have 3 former sioux on that ahl roster with forney, kozek and kaip. our roster seems to be set with him heading pro. 14 forwards right now. i look for bruneteau and davidson to be the extra 2 for the most part. cant wait for this team on the ice. with the mix of freshman in kristo and cichy this could be a up and down team this season also cant wait to see what the jerseys look like, i see brad posted the new womens jerseys on his blog. i like the green and black, just cant stand the white
-
ive heard he isnt but that isnt locked yet. if he doesnt look for him in AHL playing with kozek and kaip in atlantas organization

per brad http://www.areavoices.com/undhockey/ Goehring goes into coaching After a long career in the AHL, Karl Goehring has retired. But he's not leaving the AHL. Goehring will be assistant coaching the Syracuse Crunch beginning this season. Goehring, who lives in Grand Forks and will coach a goalie camp at The Hockey Academy in Ralph Engelstad Arena this summer, played five seasons for Syracuse from 2001-05 and 2007-08. He is the organization's all-time leader in games played (176), wins (78) and is tied for first in shutouts (11). He ranks second in career goals-against average (2.58) and save percentage (.915). Goehring's shutout streak of 197:04 also is a Crunch record. Goehring played in one AHL all-star game and was briefly called up to the NHL for a couple of days. He was on the bench for one game with the Nashville Predators but never got into a game. His pro career ends with eight seasons, 321 games, 139 wins, a 2.65 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage.

I noticed Brad had a mention on his blog. Lets throw some names around and see what everyone thinks for the C and A's with a brief reason for each ill start it off with these, im pretty sure we will see the first 3 guys names in some fashion but the 4th guy is a toss up to me. my sleeper is gregoire but hextall or malone could sneak in there as well. no doubt hextall and lamoureux will wear letters someday but for now ill go with my 4 below C - Genoway, could be the most dynamic offensive d man in the nation. I also look for a serious Hobey run from Chay A - VandeVelde, really came along late last season all around and seems to be primed for a great senior season A - Zajac, Darcy has his teammates backs in all instances. isnt a guy who will put up huge offensive numbers but will play a solid 2 way game every night and get dirty A - Gregoire, just seems to have that quiet leadership in him. like i said above this one is a toss up to me but ill guess gregoire ........................ PER BRAD http://www.areavoices.com/undhockey/ Captains under Hakstol: 2004-05: Matt Greene, JR 2005-06: Matt Smaby, JR 2006-07: Chris Porter, SR 2007-08: Rylan Kaip, SR 2008-09: Ryan Duncan, SR

yeah he should play in the AHL along with kaip and kozek in chicago if this is the case -
agreed but i also believe most think the punishment for frattin is spot on and thats great. its been dealt with and then you learn, serve your punishment and move on like anything. he made a stupid decision and im sure he knows it. its also isnt the end of the world either as some have written on blogs and so forth. stupid decision and now he will deal with it. end of story. GO SIOUX

didnt see it posted but CC big time recruit john moore signs pro. big loss if they actualy thought he would ever play there over juniors or pros. he will likely play for kitchener of OHL this coming season
-
and whatever hak feels is apropriate is fine by me. 1 game or community service or whatever. who knows and thats his call. you are right in above statement about being part of und hockey and you are also right when you say it isnt a big deal. he should learn from it and move on like we all do when we make mistakes.

per brad http://www.areavoices.com/undhockey/ Parks, Gothberg named to Select team The top 1992-born players, who are not with the U.S. NTDP in Ann Arbor, play in the Ivan Hlinka Memorial tournament each year in Slovakia. Two Sioux recrutis were selected to that team, which was announced today by USA Hockey. Goalie Zane Gothberg and forward Mike Parks are on the 21-man roster. Gothberg, a Fargo Force draft pick, will compete with current Force goalie Cody Campbell for the starting job on the team. This could be a preview of what's to come for Fargo this season. Gothberg has not decided yet whether he will play for the Force or his senior year for Thief River Falls. Parks will play for Cedar Rapids in the USHL this season. -
per brad http://www.areavoices.com/undhockey/ They aren't NHL signings, but I missed two of them. Former Sioux Brad Miller has signed a two-way AHL-ECHL contract to play with Dallas' new AHL affiliate in Austin. The ECHL affiliate of the Stars is the Idaho Steelheads. I have not heard if Austin wants Miller as a forward or a defenseman, but he could be an interesting prospect on the blue line with the way he played last season. Miller finished his UND career with 21 goals and 48 assists for 69 points in 128 games. Also, Andy Schneider will be headed back overseas to play in the German Elite League. Schneider signed a deal with the Iserlohn Roosters. Read about Schneider's signing here (and it's even in English).

why more for finley than frattin? they are 1 year apart in age. they screwed up. dumb decisions but not the end of the world as we all know. they screwed up and whatever frattin has to do he will do it and then you learn and move on like anything in life
-
actualy i think it is a different type of off season work out program. works out the muscles that you normally dont get bench pressing and doing squats
-
still waiting, should be son on the decision. if the decision was made we would know
-
finley and adam banks
-
wasnt it their own property?? nice smile by joe in the mug shot as well. im sure when the dust settles it will be a blow up over nothing like oshies BS deal 2 years ago when that was a joke. not saying things were handled right in this situation with both but lets wait and see. hak will do what needs to be done when he gets all the info and then you move on. not condoning this at all as they did make mistakes but weve been through this before so a wait and see approach is the right thing GO SIOUX!!

smaby played lots last year when he was up. i bet he has a great shot at a top 6 spot there. we will see i guess
