  1. So I get that we still have about a year till the the 2018 winter games, but though I would create this thread for any talk about the games, especially since it looks like the NHL will not be playing in the games.
  2. That is the crux of the problem, you have two extreme camps. People who want the old nickname and logo back so badly that they won't tolerate anything but complete and total hatred of the new nickname, and people who think that an resistance or criticism of the new nickname or especially the new logo is tantamount to being an NDSU/ Gopher fan. Am I a fan of the new nickname? No, but I concede that it could of been an hell of a lot worse ... Sundogs... *shudder*. Am I a fan of the new logo... not in the slightest, but it could have been worse. They took very few risks with it an what we got was bland and generic, but that's not going to stop me from waking up at 8am to watch the games online- for obvious reasons I can't really go to the hockey or football games. As much as we may bitch and whine about our distaste for the new logo or name, its not stopping people from teams or the athletes, its just that not everyone is ready to call them the fighting hawks. Both extreme sides need to get over there !@#$, the Fighting Sioux nickname is not coming back in any official capacity, also whether people continue to wear the old UND or Sioux stuff and use sioux cheers is not going to affect recruiting, Its going to take time for everyone to warm up to this new nickname.... okay rant over.
  3. Any recruit intelligent enough to be with his or her salt is going to be worried about things like - competitiveness of the team, training facilities, cost of attendance stipend, etc. Whether or not the fans like the new nickname and logo is way on the bottom of the list, just above if there is a $10.00 pizza deal and is there an on campus subway.
  4. I disagree, you do that, and the hockey fans will only retrench, though to be honest I don't think that UND gets to make the call on what is printed at Center Ice, the Ralph gets to make that call. However UND could stick that big Hawk Office logo on the jersey, but I doubt they will fly off the shelves.
  5. He also threw $50,000 down the drain on something an 8th grader could have done in one afternoon. just saying.
  6. I guess maybe the fact the people are just complaining about the logo now and not about bringing back the Fighting Sioux name is the progress of a kind. I am well aware there are still some who are dead set on bringing back the Fighting Sioux nickname, but the is almost certainly never going to happen. Everyone is making a big deal about how football and basketball have embraced the new logo, and while that sounds great to the outsiders who don't understand UND any UND alumni should Know that hockey is the Heartbeat of UND athletics. Unless hockey fans embrace logo we will always be divided on the nickname issue, and that is s where the University needs to move slowly, the worst thing they could do is to stick a Big Hawk logo on center ice or in the center of the jerseys next year. I think the most Hockey fans will tolerate the logo as a shoulder patch.
  7. Oh, yeah I figured that was probably a lie.
  8. So I guess this is all just one big scam then? http://www.nokotahorse.org/cms/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokota_horse https://www.nd.gov/content.htm?parentCatID=75&id=State Equine
  9. Yeah I have had the displeasure of having to sit behind my share of bulldog homers at more than one event for both UND and MNSU. Unforntunately every team has its share of annoying homers that give there team's fans a bad name. I have also met a lot great fans too how have given me good advice on hotels and resaurunts to stay at when traveling to there town. But it seems like Duluth and Minnesota have their fair share of obnoxious homers.
  10. I think you are also forgeting that the basketball world really dosen't care about UND or the Smaller schools, in their eyes we are just padding to lengthen out the tournement.
  11. I would agree much as miss the old nickname and logo, and as bad as may find the new nickname and logo, UND did dodge a some major bad publictiy by not having the Fighting Sioux nickname with the DAPL drama in full swing.
  12. Good luck with that the women's sports lobby and feminist lobby kills any attempt to reform Title IX. Nevermind how much the data shows there are fewer female athletes than male athletes, or how women's sports almost all lose revenue.
  13. I have never liked basketball and now I am watching with baited breath. Come on Boys!
  14. Yea it was pretty funny actually, the student section had to adjust on the Fly, so it went from Let's go mavs to purple mav's. Actually MNSU used to be the Indians but had to change the name back in the 70's. When the change happened it was still just a small teacher's college, so a little smaller alumni base and a little less investment in the name than UND.
  15. Split loyalties... it happens. All I'm saying is as of right now we still have a divided fan base, its going to take time for people to accept it. It might have been easier if the name had been more unquie like Nokota's or Roughriders, but that ship has sailed.
  16. That's a bit like saying would you rather eat Crap or vomit, one is probably better than the other but they are both disgusting.
  17. I find it interesting that a logo and nickname is supposed to be a unifying symbol that the school and its fans can rally around as well as a unique brand that the school can be recognized by, so far the new logo has failed to do either. In any case Hockey fans will be the slowest to grudingly accept Postal the PC Hawk, and lest we forget that the hockey team is the heartbeat of UND atheltics, even with the move to the MVFC and Summit, no other sport will eclipse hockey at UND. So the division will continue to exist as long as hockey don't embrace Postal the PC Hawk. Its just going to take time, plain and simple. I think next year you will see the Postal Hawk logo as shoulder patch on the jersy but my guess is that will be the only change. THe new logo wouldn't look good as a primary. Oh and God help them if they try create a mascot.
  18. But what would be the point of joining the BG10 hockey as an affiliate, there is no advantage in terms of revenue or network coverage, notre dame is getting $0 from BTN as an Afflilate.as far as travel goes we wouldn't be gaining anything there. As stated previously in other threads there is no real advantage for UND to join the B1G hc, the only thing that would make it worth it would be full conferance membership, which they would never do.
  19. its also a matter of what your comparing it too. I don't think anyone is disputing that this isn't selling anywhere near as well as the old fighting sioux logo, but I don't think they expected it ever would.
  20. I doubt it... I would bet it looks mostly the same as the current jeresy with Postal the PC Hawk on on the shoulder patches where the current interlocking ND logo is.
  21. Are your forgeting the 2 million dollar buy out to get out of the NCHC, and that fact we would get $0 in revenue from the B1G network. Also we would be trading UMD, DU, SCSU, Western, and Maimi for a mostly crap leauge. And the Knock on wood part was because Notre Dame is in the NCAA basketbal tourny, but the only way we would see them is if we make it to the final four. So knock on wood
  22. It might be an issue except we don't really see them that often, the only sport we will occasionally see them in is Hockey, and now potentially basketball (knock on wood). While I agree that it would pose a problem if UND starts to gain more national promanence and even then, I don't see the Interlocking ND logo becoming a big issue really unless UND moves to BCS, which I doubt will be happening anytime soon. For people who don't like Postal the Fightin Hawk, the interlocking logo is somthing they can still buy and feel good about wearing, and if people want it then why wouldn't they sell it.
  23. I would assume that using old logo's is the fairly simple thing; companies do it all the time. Look at everything from the NHL's vintage collections to Moutain Dew throwback. Even the Sioux Logo will continue to be made in limited number to maintain the trademark since the old interlocking ND logo doesn't have a political shitstorm attached to its usage I would bet that they will continue to use it so long as people buy it.
