  1. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I watched the play as it transpired and the hit in its entirety about 12 times on my TIVO yesterday. I wanted to look and listen for 3 things: 1) Did Adam actually see the hit? 2) Did Paukovich really complain about Adam calling a penalty on him? 3) Was the hit really a late hit - i.e. after the play had been blown dead? Upon close review and watching it about a dozen times, I concluded that: 1) Yes, Adam saw the hit...he turned his head just as Paukovich was about to hit Bina. Unfortunately he didn't see the 8-10 foot approach Paukovich took in order to hit Robbie, He just saw the hit itself. 2) Paukovich actually held up his hands and tipped his head back in the typical "Aww, man, I can't believe you're calling that" fashion. 3) The hit actually occurred right before Adam blew his whistle. This part I paid specific attention to as I had heard so many people saying Paukovich hit him after the play was dead. I saw the hit, then heard the whistle, followed by Adam signaling Paukovich to the box. The most interesting part was watching the FSN coverage and getting to lip-read what people were saying. If anyone has the game tape, check out the point when Adam was talking to the people in the box. It looked to me as if he said, "I should give 5 minutes for intentional." If this is in fact what he said, that ticks me off alot that he didn't stick to this thought. Hakstol had a few choice words for Adam as well...things I shouldn't repeat on here. What impressed me was Hakstol's ability to remain calm even though he was visibly completely p-o'ed. After his conversation with Adam, you could see Hak call the team in and give them the "let's not let this affect the game, keep your heads in it, play for Robbie" speech. Props to Hak for handling a really crappy situation with a calm, intelligent, classy approach.
  2. Can you take that last statement back, please? It might jinx us and then we'll boot you right off our bandwagon....
  3. DU got under everyone's skin. It would have been interesting to poll the X during that championship game to see just what percentage was rooting for CC as a result of the Bina situation. I would bet 90% of the fans not regularly cheering for DU picked CC as their team to win yesterday. I know I did.
  4. It's still better than the UND game starting at 8. At least this way to stay for the end of the BB game would mean only missing the first period of hockey. Seeing the BB team play at 8 would take us out of the hockey game altogether. How could they have done it any differently? Doesn't the #1 seed always have the late game?
  5. From what I understand, originally the games would have been at 2, 4, 6, and 8....leaving the UND game to completely overlap with the hockey game. This way, the basketball game will be nearly completed before hockey even begins. I think it's really smart how they scheduled them like that. BB at 6, and go a bit late to hockey at 7:35.
  6. Does anyone even care? Nope.
  7. At Sioux Boosters on Friday Fylling, Genoway, and McMahon were there to speak to the people in attendance. Hakstol told the audience that the Sioux will only go as far as the seniors will take them. I'm guessing those 3 seniors heard that loud and clear and that the rest of the seniors are hearing that plenty in the locker room. I saw a spark in nearly every senior tonight, which was encouraging. I think this could be the start of a great postseason run. I know one good win does not a good postseason run make, but it's a start at least. Haven't we always said that playing well at the right time is the key? We'll see what happens, but I'm encouraged by Saturday's performance. GO SIOUX!! Keep it rollin!
  8. What exactly are "these symptoms?" Have I missed something or someplace where they said what symptoms he's actually having?
  9. Tonight's problem with a late start was two-fold. 1) After they did Mankato's starting lineups and showed the usual fairly lame video on the screen, the announcer didn't have power on his microphone for a good minute or so. Finally the Sioux just skated to the blue line in an effort to get them to just start the anthem and skip the intros. Just as they got there, the mic started working so they did the introductions anyway. This took at least a few extra minutes. 2) The singing of the anthem always takes way longer than it is supposed to. You'd think REA would start the player intros earlier so the anthem can sing earlier so the game can start on time...I hate wasting time - just play hockey.
  10. I'm pretty sure the Porter line was Genoway, Porter, Spirko. Although with the injury to Prpich they seemed to switch up the lines somewhat. The radio was a fun listen tonight...guests included Lamoreaux and Greene before the game, and the 1st and 2nd period guests were Scott Sandelin and Drew Stafford respectively. Greg Lotysz asked Stafford "hypothetically if you went on a date with a girl where would you take her" among other questions. Greene was pretty funny as well. Nice game by the Sioux. It's gonna be fun watching the WJC guys play tomorrow. I wonder how our guys will handle matching up against Stafford - hopefully they won't check him very hard...No more injuries PLEASE!!!
  11. How about the banner they had for "Final Eight" in the early 90's...Someone next to me said it must be because they can't fill the banner slots with NC's or WCHA championship banners. As far as the best cheers, I have to give props to the Friday night cheer directed at Jordan Parise: "Family reject." I have to admit I laughed a little...it was pretty creative.
  12. Thanks. I remembered it being a recent series but I was one week off. Michigan Tech it was.
  13. If I'm not mistaken, Jordan's penaltly happened at home vs. St. Cloud?? Either a hooking or tripping call as I recall....Someone with the games on tape or tivo chime in here. I'm pretty sure it was SCSU.
  14. I see we have reverted back to our "it's Hakstol's fault" campaign. We win 5 straight and the fairweather fans find their way back to the board in time to praise the team and coaching staff for a good run. Then we go 1-2 in the next 3 and we're back to whining and placing blame. If I'm not mistaken, it usually takes a few more than one person to affect the outcome of a game. I watched Hakstol coach in Duluth this weekend. He knows his stuff and he can only do so much. Eventually you have to put it in the hands of the players - let them decide if they want to show up on any given game night or not. I also wouldn't mind seeing the habitual penalty offenders or slackers sit a game out to remind them they're not invincible. A good player plays both sides of the ice and above all plays smart. I didn't see a lot of smart playing from most of the team Saturday night. Of course it didn't help that Anderson let the game get out of control. That guy needs to watch some film to figure out how to improve his reffing. Saturday night was not a loss because of one specific factor. Duluth showed up, Isaac played great, the reffing was less than subpar, the defense had many breakdowns, the list goes on and on. Saturday wasn't our night, plain and simple. Don't give me this coaching crap, because that is all it is: crap. When the team decides to play smart and play together they'll be unstoppable. Until then, cheer them on and sit tight...this thing ain't over by a long shot.
  15. I've heard both SU and UND have been contacting him, but again I think it will come down to playing at a DI vs. a DII school. Most kids have dreams of playing DI ball. I just don't think they realize they'd get the chance to play for a championship here because SU has a few years before playoffs come to pass... We'll see what happens, though. You never know we might get them both.
  16. I also thought the crowd looked larger than 8200...I would have guessed close to 10,000. 4800 empty seats in the Al? Where??? Either way, the 8 false start penalties on GVSU were made possible by the 8200 in attendance. I'd rather have 8200 screaming their lungs out on each defensive down than 13000 sitting on their butts eating dippin dots the whole game, but that's just me. Great noise, Sioux fans!!
  17. After the game, Hakstol said the first two Tech goals were impossible for Phil to stop. Evidently they had the screen in the perfect position because Hakstol claims Phil didn't see either of them until it was too late. I don't think Lammy HAS "off games," does he? Hoping for the sweep tomorrow after I heard many positives throughout the game for the Sioux.
  18. I respectfully disagree - Hennen's got one of the best announcer/radio voices I've heard. I don't like all the crap they make him say during breaks in the action - that stuff gets old fast. But I realize he's just doing his job and it's not his fault. I was personally disappointed he wasn't around last night. The fill-in did decent, but he's no Hennen.
  19. I read on uscho that one of the SCSU coaches said Boron got 5 or 6 stitches in his thumb. I just read it...don't know it to be fact yet. Also, Schneider's concussion supposedly happened in last Saturday's game. Between periods he was interviewed and said hopefully he could skate tomorrow morning and even dress for the game, but he wasn't sure. Prpich was rolling on all cylinders tonight...If that is how people play a few weeks after getting a concussion, I can't wait to see Schneider in a couple weeks!
