  1. How close was your source to the decision-making process? The committee forwarded the names in an unranked manner, meaning not even any of those people could have known the outcome before the candidate was selected. From what I understand, only Kupchella should have known whom he was going to select... What am I missing here?
  2. If you get the impression they do not feel they are there to serve students and the people of ND (unless that was a typo), who do you think they feel they are there to serve?
  3. I agree that people skills are important, and I in no way meant to say that they aren't. What I was trying to say is that I think that any candidate we have would already be for the fan, and that we should be using other characteristics and qualities to set them apart at this point. With that being said, I actually can think of some potential qualities that would trump people skills in importance. I am of the opinion that if any of the candidates really are terrible at people skills (which i doubt since these candidates made it past heavy screening - if they didn't have people skills they wouldn't even be in the running) that such skills can at least somewhat be taught. What you can't teach someone is just plain intelligence, however. Either you have it, and have through the years added to it, or you don't. I'm not speaking to any particular candidate having or not having a high level of intelligence. I am merely trying to point out the fact that some qualities are essential for this kind of operation and that others can be taught. It's the same as saying you can teach a kid to shoot a basket but you can't teach them to be tall...If they're born tall, they already have an advantage. Couple that with increased skills learning and they should arguably have the upper hand. That's the best example I can come up with. Hope this makes some sense.
  4. At the same time, let's remember that there are other reasons to choose a particular AD besides picking one who will work for the 'fan.' I'd guess a few other key ingredients need to be present in a candidate to make him the best choice.... Not saying someone who is 'for the fan' is bad or not necessary, but I'd hope the candidate would be chosen for something a bit more important.
  5. Hey, you and I both know that Kupchella is not the world's greatest supporter of UND athletics. But let's not jump on him without first knowing the facts. There are some people in this world who have JOBS which can't be just disregarded the second their team is in a Frozen Four. Ever thought that maybe Kupchella was busy in meetings on campus or traveling to visit alumni trying to raise more money for the university on the students' behalf? I would have loved to come - I'm a huge Sioux fan. Unfortunately my job didn't give me the luxury to get there. Maybe Kupchella was in the same boat and had unavoidable business to attend to. Cut the guy at least a little slack...I'm sure he means well.
  6. I was trailing the bus by a few hundred yards but when I saw it drive into a restricted area I gave up and went back home. I figured I wouldn't be able to see or talk to anyone and didn't want to look like a stalker, so I just took off. It's nice you got to talk to Eades...what a class act, the whole lot of them.
  7. I guess it wouldn't hurt to case the joint. I suppose if no one else is there we can always hide so we don't look like idiots.
  8. So you're taking off now? That might be a good bet...If it was in fact a 2 hour flight it could be touching down shortly. What happened to Rico??
  9. I called flight services out at the airport (which is where the charters fly into) but they are "closed" whatever that means. The guy had no info for me. Anyone else want to give it a shot?
  10. Any ideas on where we could find a phone number to call someone out there who might know more info? Maybe the "sudo-reporter" has connections or a brilliant idea on that one...
  11. Agreed. So what's the verdict? If I'm not going out there, I'm going to bed.
  12. He's alive!! Well, judging from responses here, that would make a whopping 3 of us...Are there more? If there are, I say let's do it. If not, would 3 lonely people standing outside in the dark just be more pathetic than anything else?
  13. That would be good to know. I wonder if there's a number for flight services or the grand forks airport where we could find out their ETA. Someone out there has to know what it is... You know, for this thread getting 200 views we're not getting much feedback. Will Uncle Rico and I be alone out there or who else is with us??
  14. Where's PCM? I thought he was in for sure.
  15. I got a call stating they were leaving right around midnight. That would put them here sometime around 3 am. I don't know exactly how long of a flight it is, but I think to be safe people would want to go a little after 2:30 just so we don't miss them. I'm pretty sure they will be arriving at flight services and NOT at the terminal. Is anyone really going out there? I'd feel pretty stupid being the only one there...
  16. I'm going, no matter what. It is apparently around a 3 hour flight. I know someone who will be on that plane and will be getting a call right before the plane takes off. I can post that info when I receive it for whoever is interested. It will probably be around 2 am. I don't care how late it is, I think they have earned and deserve a little bit of Sioux pride and encouragement after a season where most didn't think they would get this far. We should make signs to take with us or something...Maybe something like "Thanks for the ride" or "You made us proud" or something maybe more creative (cuz that's all I got )
  17. Was anyone else thinking that this game looked eerily like our first half of the season? Waaay outshooting our opponents only to lose the game in the end... I kinda felt early on like it was resembling our early season woes. Back to the cliche, but this time it works: We ran into hot goaltending. A few thoughts: 1. I'm just glad it wasn't Minnesota out there celebrating an NC. 2. I'm pretty ticked at how much tv time Paukovich had...he was famous because he broke someone's neck. Gag me. He shouldn't have been on the ice tonight. 3. Parise still had a solid game. The stats may not show it, but he was still "hot" tonight, his defense just hung him to dry a few times. 4. What a year for Hak...he got them to THE game, and we played with Denver. They just got some lucky breaks that we weren't fortunate enough to get. 5. Can't wait until next year! Who's the geek who is going to find out just how many days until we drop the puck again?? Great season, Sioux! You made us proud! Classy all the way to the end. Thanks for the memories...it's been a really fun ride. GO SIOUX!!! BTW: Who's game for going out to the airport to greet the team when they get back? I feel we should SHOW them how proud we are and thank them for a great run... I'm planning to go...who is with me??

  19. Man, I thought there'd be more action on here since it is game day... You can tell it's not a normal day in GF...the Herald had so much coverage I spent a good 20 minutes with the Sports section this morning - and that's saying alot! I woke up a bit nervous this morning, remembering our current shutout record with the Pios. However, I think this time it's our turn. Sioux will be victorious, 5-2. (Someone has to predict a blowout, right? ) We jump on 'em early, crush their spirits, and the game is ours. I'm thinking that a couple players are due for another great game - namely Stafford and Porter. I'm a little bitter I didn't make it to Columbus - it sounds like it's been a blast and I'd love to be there for the postgame celebration. UND wins #8, coming within striking distance of Michigan and leaving Denver in the dust. 6 hours until the puck drops...let's play some Fighting Sioux Hockey!!
  20. Much more qualified? How do you figure? The other two finalists have AD experience, Bollinger does not. I'm not saying Bollinger wouldn't be a good option, just wondering what you're using as a measuring stick for "qualified..."
  21. There's always the classic "Minnesota: Land of 10,000 excuses" that we could pull out again. That was a hit last year. How about: "Hey Adam! Wish you WEREN'T here!" or something like that Or "Mr. Paukovich, meet Mr. Greene" or something in reference to him Keep the ideas comin'!
  22. Here's one my sister came up with: "Where are Doug Flutie and Ray Bourque??" Also something along the lines of: "Minnesota: No home ice=no wins"
  23. It sounds like there will be quite the crew of Sioux faithful going to Columbus next week. I figured we should brainstorm some great sign ideas both to hold at the game and maybe even get on t.v. Obviously our first goal is to make some zinger signs for the Gopher game. There may also be a few digs we can make to our Boston schools (i.e. "How's the weather in Boston?") and also toward Paukovich/DU/Adam/etc. Let's post ideas here so people can start working on making some signs to take. I'm sure YaneA will be up to her usual antics and will make some signs, but maybe we can help her out this time around.
  24. I have two words for all those who are sick of this yellowdog character...it worked for me so it can work for you: IGNORE LIST
