That's all I'm saving for the upper and lower. Would be nice to have a few "hang out areas" to "alleviate the traffic." Listening to the podcast "if I won the lottery"....Jody: "first would be the on ice projection system." "People say I'm over the laser show."
-
Or as some publications call it "Americas Best Hockey Town."
-
Sports town.
-
IIRC there is already an end date to give it to UND.
-
"Why don't you drive a Porsche like me?" "Cause on top of this new truck I drive, I'm paying for a mortgage on this mansion on the lake. I don't live in a trailer like you." "I knew you'd bring up your house. I was going to bet my mortage on it."
-
Glad you are able to understand basic economics with the ag degree.

Thanks listening to it now. They have been great at keeping up/renovating the arena and I see no reason why it would change anytime soon.
-
Agreed. It's really only a matter of time for both. And I'm sure the "ice projection" will probably be done soon.

15 years ago seemed like just yesterday. But interestingly enough, the old ralph was only thirty years old when it was replaced. When a sports arena is owned by UND, it has shown a history of not doing the best to keep them up to date. Thankfully the Ralph isn't currently owned by UND yet.
-
Wouldn't it be fair to compare each schools #1 sports? That's like me asking how many folks you have on your basketball season ticket waiting list? UND sells more sporting event tickets than NDSU and its not even close.
-
2000 is actually a small number for a 19,000 arena. Heard UND fans had no trouble getting tickets to the game. Thought it would be a lot harder giving all the hype of how hard tickets were to come by.

Yes of course your points are accurate. Its also accurate to say the entire REA was first class when it first opened, and nothing really beat it (even NHL regardless of the size...comparable yes). But its not anymore. Sure its still the best college rink bar none. But Ralph didn't want to compare it to other college rinks. Laser light show...and the scoreboard (regardless of higher resolution needing to be replaced because of fire/smoke) are quickly becoming outdated. Concourses would be wider as capacity increases....thats obvious. It's the "coves" and the not the "exact same inch by inch is the same all the way around" Of course its "splitting hairs." Never claimed the Ralph wasn't "awesome," but when Ralph Engelstad built the arena he was also "splitting hairs." Just pointing out things that will leave the arena behind someday, and don't kid yourself, the arena will "one day" be "outdated" without not only "underground renovations" but also "above ground renovations."

The rest of your post? "Big money waiting on tickets." That still doesn't mean much for "sustainability." First start charging students and see how "sustainability" that is (last I heard they don't usually even sell out all their free tickets).

15 years ago the arena was pretty much an exact mini NHL arena...not so much anymore.

quick search produced this: http://www.sportsunlimitedinc.com/north-dakota-fighting-sioux-riddell-speed-mini-football-helmet.html?CID=GoogleShopping&country=US&gclid=Cj0KEQjwo_y4BRD0nMnfoqqnxtEBEiQAWdA124ks3QoENYSBpY1QbbUNjA5jGvPbpA-LrJGEikTmtVEaAmN78P8HAQ I'm sure it's cheaper at Scheels or SiouxShop.

and the rich (NCHC) keep getting richer. Odd to see Magness is only two years older than the Ralph. Just having been to Tampa (and the X) I do wish the Ralph had more "concession space." (and I'm sure REA had a larger area for the bands to play) The halls are tight walking around and there isn't much leisure area....in Tampa there was "standing bar areas" where I could scarf down my hotdog without getting constantly bumped into which was nice. To me that's the main thing getting outdated about the new Ralph: small, plain jane halls. Not to mention the "entire ice is a projector screen" as seen in Tampa (and other NHL arenas). And the scoreboard is quickly becoming outdated.

One guy I know told UND: "I want my own suite to watch UND hockey games!" UND said, "Sorry we don't have any suites at hockey games." Gentleman declared, "Ok Fine!! I'll build my own suite and include a rink around it!"
-
Pointing out one guy who would pay a $1,000,000 for season tickets doesn't really equate to "sustainability." "How much did your ticket cost for this game?" "$100,000" "Oh and I thought the $300 I paid was a lot!"
-
Sell them to people on SiouxSports so they can pretend they were good enough to play on the team?! Put Me in Coach!
-
Was it still walk right in? I'm going to assume these would be the biggest crowds UND baseball has ever seen being it will more than likely be the last games of its existence ever and all...
-
How long before the rings come out? Can I buy one?
-
Definitely one of a kind.
-
After seeing the grays, I think black would be better.
-
They just order whatever helmet they want and put the sticker on them. I do think they need to try and spruce them up a little more. Wonder how the grays (or green ones) would have looked with green (or white) face masks. NDSU players (and fans) love the special edition "harvest helmets." Things like that happen when your top athletic program is football. Auction off the "special helmets" to help fund raise. You can't buy a full size UND helmet anywhere unless its a game worm , so I think the more helmets they help get out into the public the better. I don't even remember seeing one at the UND gala (could be wrong?). (Travis was nice enough to sell me one after I emailed him). Those UND game worn hockey jerseys always seem to be going up for auction (The old Ralph arena entrance gates went for over $10K IIRC).
