President Kennedy Message on Athletics
The Sicatoka replied to fightingsioux4life's topic in Other Sports
One other things people forget is that the world knew that the MVFC wasn't seriously looking at anything beyond 10 teams. The MVFC visit that UND cancelled was going to be nothing more than a courtesy visit. Go look at the history in various posting forums. It was well discussed then.- 2,150 replies

And you do realize to use leverage you need a fulcrum. USD's fulcrum was the league's willingness to be at 10 teams (but not 11).- 2,150 replies

Patty V of the MVFC has been very and consistently outspoken that the MVFC is not looking for teams.- 2,150 replies

Do not say "drag racing" in Grand Forks. It causes my blood to boil. < think: Ms. Marvin >

I couldn't believe what Pogo did last year. As a freshman he got moved around; he was a monster at times as a sophomore*. If Wilkie or JJ can make a similar move, look out. *And somewhere over that summer he got faster too. -
Jim Rome has a shtick. Love it or hate it. Every person on radio has a shtick. Love it or hate it. Like a guy I know who has owned a couple radio stations told me once: every radio has two knobs.

President Kennedy Message on Athletics

Isn't that the effective reality today? Most claim DI FB is two tier, namely FBS and FCS. To me that is just ... well ... f-BS. DI FB is three-tiers today: the P5, the G5, and FCS. I dare make that claim of an "effective third tier" because there is a group of schools out there (the G5) claiming to be "FBS" who will never play in the four-team playoff*. The G5 tier gets some of the perks of FBS (the crumbs left in the bottom of the key lime pie** pan of television money) and to claim FBS status. And they get to say they play at the same level as 'bama and LSU, above those "little DI-AA" guys. It's three tiers, but not formalized. I won't be surprised if it becomes formalized, but not before it makes fiscal sense for ... the P5. (Golden rule in play here; they have the gold, they make the rules.) I will again harken to Nick Saban and the SBC commish each about five years ago saying there should be the top 80 or so (the P5) and then the next group ... of about 80. I believe them so I guess I agree with you to a point. There are only 120ish FBS. That would mean taking the bottom 40 of FBS and the top 40 or so of FCS. That would leave the rest of FCS (about 80) to play. *You ain't never seein' Georgia State and 'bama in the National Championship playoff title game. Sorry. Never. Boise State at its peak wouldn't have gotten there. **Mmmmm ... key lime pie ....- 2,150 replies

I see Johnny like Mario: A three-year role guy who finally nets a few as a senior. Dear Johnny: If you'd like to prove me wrong and pot about 50 this year I'll eat gladly eat my words. -

Big Sky Core (from the BSC manual):M (6): BB, CC, FB, ITF, OTF, TennisW (7): BB, CC, Golf, ITF, OTF, Tennis, Volleyball UND non-BSC core sports (6): MIH, WIH, MS&D, WS&D, WSoc, WSoftball MIH survives. (Duh.) I'd guess only 2 of the remaining 5 (M/W S&D, WIH, Soc, Soft) survive leaving UND at 16. That's just my guess and as far as I'm willing to guess/predict.- 2,150 replies

Let's see, Kennedy puts out an informational email (to kill the UND rumor mill) on Tuesday but gets ripped for not being in Grand Forks when the information comes out. But he's on the UND new faculty bus tour of the State. And here's what everyone just plain missed. Email Tuesday. So, where is Kennedy Wednesday? Let's see: (a) in Bismarck (where the money comes from), and (b) with a SBHE member.- 2,150 replies

$1.4 million is between 5 and 10% of the athletics budget. That is not unexpected given the state just had a special session to deal with deep budget issues. I want to know how Bresciani plans to cut the 15% from NDSU athletics he mentioned in his emails.- 2,150 replies

I said when the first cuts were made that it wasn't enough. Has anyone heard how the fundsraising for men's golf is going or is this the answer to that question also? I'm thinking M/W S&D should be concerned. I'm thinking non-core Big Sky sports should be concerned. As far as "conference alignment" unless there is an offer from the MVFC plus Summit there is nothing to talk about .... Unless there is something wild, radical, and new to talk about.- 2,150 replies

Show me where I said that. What I said is taking a PWO early is short changing yourself and we don't know what else was said, in either case.

I have a different beef with how people take turns: You do not need to swing left to turn right (or swing right to turn left)! Your Kia isn't that big; and honestly, neither is your F-150 if you knew how to drive. Wait an extra quarter-second and then turn, or better yet, actually turn the wheel instead of taking that huge radius glide path of a corner. Trust me: you won't twist the wheel off the steering column with an extra 1/8th of a turn. And there's a schmuck sub-class in these folks, namely, those who are on a two-lane road and turning left and rather than moving toward the center paint so you can get by on the right they move to the right so you can not get by them. I asked someone about that behavior one time. The answer? "I don't like being passed on the right." "You'd rather be rear ended?"

And now the Bismarck Tribune calls for Bresciani to step down or be removed.

I'll agree with your first part. I said then the kid short-changed himself. Your second part, however, I have to wonder why the kid took the PWO. What was said to him then? None of us know for sure.

Some folks haranguing this new logo are missing the obvious: They get their wish, namely, the hockey jerseys will stay with the 2015-16 look as this really doesn't work on a jersey front. It's a nice, simple, logo that is at its best as a secondary logo. It's fine on a FB helmet; it'll be a solid hockey helmet sticker or shoulder patch. And it'll be find on basketball shorts. Coaches' polos will be very sharp and it'll make a fine lapel pin. As much as some claim to like some of the other logos mentioned, I am willing to bet that if the hockey team hit the ice this year with any new logo on the jersey front it would receive far less than a warm reception. With this logo the hockey jersey front is a non-issue this year (and probably for a few more).

I take it you don't shop for your own clothes so you haven't seen that type of sticker before.

Powell's in charge of MBB. Here is who's who in terms of people and responsibilities. http://www.undsports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=13500&ATCLID=3683583&DB_OEM_ID=13500 If you have a question about what's going on in your kid's classroom at school, do you ask the teacher, or go directly to the principal? Hint: Ask the teacher. If you don't get a satisfactory answer, then you go to the principal. Closing thought: Powell's responsibilities include MBB ... and FB. I'm sure getting the MBB page updated is priority in mid-August with the start of FB just around the corner. Ask geaux_sioux about that, I'm sure he'll have an opinion. -
BYU also does not want its teams playing on Sundays (think basketball).

OK, so let me get this straight: Years ago John Buccigross puts out hats that say "Cawlidge Hawkey" and they are like way so cooooool. So, seeing that, and the number of college hockey fans that scooped them up, Adidas plays off that with the new nickname and they are like way so baaaaaad?
