  1. My speculation: It's frustrating to some who wanted "no nickname" when they really meant they wanted a void there. And where there is void something will (even unofficially) fill it and we all know what that would've been. Instead, there's no void. And what was there is displaced, retired, and unable to fill a void that does not exist.
  2. Um, the Summit League offices are moving into the Sanford Sports Complex. Why would they leave a conference where the tournament is and will be played on their alternate home court?
  3. And that merely serves to further focus the Summit League away from its prior core (Illinois/Indiana) west to the I-29 corridor. You can see that steady westerly migration by looking at the list of former members. That said, this announcement makes me even more sure that IPFW will be trying to get into a more Indiana-centric group (like where IUPUI went) and Western Illinois will probably also be shopping (most likely the OVC).
  4. Form 990 shows it all. Page 1 of each shows Activities and Governance, Revenues, Expenses, and Net.
  5. Using the 2017 Form 990s I brought forward (linked above): UND Sports Facilities: Gave $751,469 to UND Athletics and $0 to UND Foundation. The rest of the transactions in the docs appear to be "bill paying" among the organizations (payroll, management fee, operating agreement fee). Have a read. That's why I linked them.
  6. Brought forward for reference.
  7. The logo on the REA ice is a new stencil and three (existing) colors of paint when they install the ice. The logo on the Betty floor is a resurfacing and repainting of a floor scheduled to be resurfaced and repainted this summer. Better? Could they share the stencil from the REA ice? The logo on the Alerus Center turf requires making the new sections of the field (that will have logo), then cutting the field, and then resewing a $2,000,000.00 surface such that it doesn't have imperfections dangerous to play (remember, the 2012 field lasted one year to 2013 for such issues). Understand that turf is not painted. Those colors are from-the-factory colored turf. No paint. Oh, and turf that was new in 2013: will the new sections color-match the existing field? If they don't it'll be torches and pitchforks. And that's before you mention that: REA/Betty are private entities that control annually sponsorship on the surface. Their private boards ("for the benefit of UND Athletics") control what's on those flats. The Alerus Center is a public (City of GF) entity that has signed a long-term naming rights agreement on the field and cashed the check. Want to remove "Alerus Center" signage from the turf? Include that contract cancellation and repayment in the bill. Things sound and seem easy, until you really dig in and think step-by-step what it would take to make it so.
  8. I see trademark infringement. (You don't have to steal the whole image to have infringed.)
  9. He was wearing his Fighting Hawks apparel head to toe.
  10. Hi, I'm Sica, with the Meme Police. We're just writing a warning this time for a failure to meme. In the future in that situation you should do something like this.
  11. It's becoming a maintenance burden on TRF parks and recs budget. Local volunteers are doing some things. I swear there was an article here somewhere ...
  12. And why did these not-for-profits to run the arena get set up? Ralph's vision? Um, ah, no. The ND Legislature said they wouldn't take a gift building on a campus that didn't have a sustainability plan. The State didn't want to be left paying for maintenance of such a facility. Seeing what's happening with the Little Ralph in TRF right now < gulp > the Legislature might have gotten one right.
  13. So they could get a short-notice stencil of Hawk-font ... but not the logo ...
  14. I was a bit afraid that it would re-ignite old name/logo firestorms from the early 80s and late 80s and that bad things might come of it. Meh ... what'd I know ... worried about a nothin'-burger, right?
  15. Or is it three and I'm wrong about last year being (new) Hawk-font. Your picture is the font that came with the Faison Interlock.
  16. So why's it bother you if you don't notice it? Remember: the Faison interlock first showed up in fall 2013 and only made it to fall 2017.
  17. Anyone else remember the uproar when the Faison "Interlocked ND" came out and the cataclysm that ensued? http://www.undsports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=13500&ATCLID=204768425 There were almost daily letters to the GFH saying it's an atrocity, a travesty, and don't put that < bleep > thing on the ice! History: the ultimate recycler. PS: Spoiler Alert! The Faison Interlocked ND did end up at center ice. PPS: REA has had at least three different things (Brien logo, Faison Interlock, Hawk-font wordmark) at center in 17 seasons.
  18. Both are still cheaper than getting the Brien logo off your ... < ahem > ... gluteal nether-regions.
  19. What's more costly: Replacing the center section of $4 million dollar custom, specialty indoor football turf or A new stencil and three colors of paint to go onto ice. Ponder that: The least costly place to put the new logo would be on the ice, not the courts, not the turf, the ice.
  20. Alerus turf was 11 years old and replaced in 2012. http://csinewsnow.com/?p=2941 It had to be warranty replaced (manufacturer's defect) in 2013. http://www.thedickinsonpress.com/sports/1824806-new-4m-turf-alerus-center-being-replaced
  21. Alerus? Someone say Alerus? http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/4324402-und-ramping-branding-alerus-center
  22. Birds fly, fish swim; water is wet; sun rises in the east.
  23. Game 1/2 Caps showed up last night for Game 6. Now who'll show up Wednesday.
  24. No comment. (Brad, Tom, et al, c'mon man, all in fun. ) That said, in all fairness I didn't know about Form 990 and who files it and that's it is publicly available until about a decade ago.
