  1. But I'm sure no one from the Herald ever reads this site ....
  2. If you have a problem with that, blame the hiring on the people who directly hired him: the Indian Studies Department. Personally, I hire the best available person who can do the job. I live in a world where it's illegal to base hiring practice on flesh tones or other similar litmus tests. The University of North Dakota lives in that same world. I guess the best Lakota instructor available wasn't Lakota.
  3. So now it's all Bryan Lundbohm's fault?
  4. Could the shortfalls he sees not be purely "fiscal" but "facilities" related? (Facilities require fundraising also.) I'm yet to be in a room with him when I haven't heard him mention the need to bring the facilities for the other sport in line with those available to hockey, basketball, volleyball, and football.
  5. I said "more". I never said how much in either. The computer rankings that seems to most match what my eyes tell me is the PWR (used to seed the DI mens hockey tournament). There aren't enough games played in football to do a PWR.
  6. I have a lot more faith in Massey (last numeric column) than the BCS system.
  7. What I see in those numbers is this: 1. UND has reported FY05 (yes, FY05*) and come in about $62,900 in the black (by EADA accounting**). 2. NDSU's numbers are still FY04 numbers. * UND and NDSU athletics are both currently in FY 06. The fiscal year for each started on July 1, 2005. ** It's anyone's guess if EADA reporting and accounting matches UND's methods of internal accounting. EADA could look at some things as "revenues" that UND considers internally "expenses" or doesn't consider (or vice versa).
  8. I didn't mean for this question to devolve into who sells more of which collegiate merchandise. (Of course Fargo Scheels sells more UND stuff: Folks buy Bison stuff at NDSU's bookstore. Plus, I'd bet, no proof, the Fargo Scheels sell more UND stuff than the GF Scheels. Why? The REA Pro Shop sells a lot of stuff in GF.) My question remains: Would UND fans in Fargo be willing to buy the Herald on weekends (instead of the Forum) for Sioux coverage if same-day home delivery was offered? (The rest of a Sunday paper is essentially all the same anyway.) I wonder if anyone from the Herald reads this board ....
  9. That's what I needed to know. Thanks. The message remains: Stay out of #6 or a #9 or 10 NSIC team will get your slot.
  10. Don't forget "earned access": The NSIC is in the top ten so an NSIC team (Winona right now) gets one of the six regional bids. (#6 Northwood is in jeopardy.) The next question: Does Central Washington count for that four-team far west conference? They're also top ten regionally. Is UM-Duluth at #5 in jeopardy because of that?
  11. Thinking out loud: If the GF Herald offered same-day Saturday and Sunday home delivery in Fargo/Moorhead/West Fargo, I wonder how many UND fans would subscribe (and go to weekday only Fargo Forum).
  12. Folks, they didn't drive the stake through the heart (7), but that long drive for 3 points was key because it kept our D off the field, their D on the field, our Hoggies pushing down on their lines, and ate up clock.
  13. So who's still on the "Need first career goal list"? Kaip Foyt (?) Watkins Kozek Chorney Jones Finley Alexander (edit) Did I miss any?
  14. Game snapshot? Quarter, time, ball on x of team, score.
  15. Any speculation as to who gets into the lineup tonight. (I'm assuming Spirko is a scratch.)
  16. Game set: Quarter? Time?
  17. Yup.
  18. From UI's appeal, namely the letter from US OCR to UI regarding campus climate: The OCR seems to think campuses need this crazy concept called "free speech", even if the speech offends some. I guess the NCAA needs to have a "teachable moment" with the US OCR.
  19. If they grant UI's appeal with that basis, doesn't the NCAA tacitly admit that every appeal should be granted because they overstepped their bounds?
  20. There's a nasty echo when I read that and think about UND.
  21. If you say "hostile and abusive" don't you have to put the little "TM" by it and credit Miles Brand a quarter every time?
  22. Duluth is a young and excited team. Their only loss is to Northern Iowa. They run an unconventional offense. Their coach knows our defense. It'd be foolish to expect anything less than a full challenge from a team that hung 38 on Nebraska-Omaha last week.
  23. "Who do you play this year coach?" "Well, first the Wildcats, then the Golden Rams, Warriors, Vikings, Vikings, Huskies, Bulldogs, Bulldogs, Mavericks, Mavericks, and finally the Coyotes." "You feeling OK coach? You kind of echoed or doubled up there."
  24. I can only think of one UND "throwback" jersey that would pass muster with the NCAA's latest dance with PC --> the (ugly) block letters Kendall Baker "North Dakota" models. Of course, "Dakota" is a tribal name ....
