NDSU has the potential for a $600k FY 05 shortfall according to the last report on Inniger's progress. UND is the one with the $200k problem in FY 05.

Please re-read my post and reconsider your response. Thank you. Bison Dan: I think what both sides are (slowly) realizing is that they need each other for the BB gates, mens and womens, (8000) that they give each other annually plus the every-other-year football gate.

Since NDSU began its transition, it would seem that NDSU and UND have had the same number of established DI conferences asking each to join. The issues remain unchanged: conference and money. Conference was addressed above. As far as money, I'm interested in seeing the Fiscal Year 2005 numbers (EADA data for July 2004 through June 2005) for both UND and NDSU. The last reports I heard for each were that UND was coming in about $200k in the red for the year and that Mr. Inniger was $600k short of the $1 million he alone (outside or Team Makers) he needed to raise to make budget. What are the real final numbers and what can be learned from each set?

What's the best thing about North Dakota

Overconfidence is a formula for disaster. Play Sioux football. Win the game. Get everyone off the field with no injuries. And then beat the next set of Vikings the next week. On a side note: What a stretch, namely, Warriors, then Vikings, then Vikings. I sure hope for their sakes offended European-Americans don't protest those names.

From the Dakota Student and quoting Tex Hall: Let's look at that again: Translated: Only Tex's opinion matters, not the opinion of the people who elected him. PS - Isn't Tex a member of the Three Affiliated Tribes (Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara)?

That's unpossible. :D

Maybe it's just me, but my impression of Dr. K is that he is and always has been more academic than administrator (or politician). I got the same feelings when I've talked to him but he comes back with a logical, well-thought response even when you were sure he was thinking about something other than what you were saying to him. That's why I say I believe he's more academic (pondering the words with a neutral look on his face) rather than an a guy who gives the empathic looks and nods (politico) while not listening to you. Now, if (big if) my take is correct Dr. K being upset by this action by the NCAA is wholly expected. Academics know that free speech and free expression are the absolute first necessary right for academia. Any attempt by anyone to stifle them must be met headlong (as he is doing).

The NCAA called UND "hostile and abusive". If UND is found to be no such thing (as evidenced by the US OCR finding), that's slander. Slander ---> damages? Damages, on a national scale, from a group known to have a $6,000,000,000.00 television contract. Oh, the mind races .....

If you have to change the name...
The Sicatoka replied to JESUS,family, rutgers's topic in UND Nickname
What I probably should have said was, " ... in some American Indian religions are:" Thanks for pointing out how ("foreigner") someone could easily get confused when moving around in the Siouxan languages. The whole "n" thing is a classic example. People think learning English is difficult. -
If you have to change the name...

Guess what the two most sacred symbols of Wakantanka (The Great Spirit) of American Indian religion are: The buffalo (Tatanka) The eagle (Wabli) Based on the NCAA's current precident, all it would take is a couple of folks to protest to the NCAA and Boston College (Catholic) and Colorado (public) and a whole host of others could be looking for monikers and mascots. Far fetched? Unfortunately, nothing seems far fetched lately. -
The Bird/Dr. J/Stockton look is too short, but longer than today again? If BB shorts get any longer companies will be able to dig out the old, ugly "Cooperall" hockey pants and sell them as BB shorts.

"Since the policy includes references to Indians but not to Vikings or Irish, it discriminates on the basis of race, which is not only wrong but also probably illegal." "Who is empowered to grant or deny the use of words in the public domain? Who controls the use of Irish, Scandinavians (Vikings), Mountaineers,

The First Amendment is much more important than "Fighting Sioux". Universities have to have the First Amendment or they have nothing. That's why fight the fight if it comes to it.
-
If it went to court and UND won, would UND keep the name? That would be the ultimate victory --> we defended the principle, we were right on principle, and now we'll choose whatever we want. Welcome to true freedom. This isn't about "Fighting Sioux", this is about "First Amendment".
-
Yo "ESPN Insider", when ESPN calls you'll lose that handle. It's their trademark. However, a word in the public domain is a whole other matter. Controlling which people can use and how they can use words that are clearly public domain (e.g. Sioux Falls and Sioux City) is "probably" a First Amendment issue. Universities should be standing up for First Amendment protections and rights.

Which to have on your side, the law or the NCAA? Hmmm.....

The redshirt rule (last time I read it) says that you can't have played in more than 20% of your team's scheduled regular season games and none that you play in can be in the second half of the schedule. Given UND's 11 game schedule, game 2 is 18.2% of games and neither was in the second half of the year (obviously). Seems like these two games won't cost him the full year of eligibility.

I was thinking more like restraints, administrative variety. Why? I smell poseur. -
So only Democrats could tell us about Mr. Clinton and only Republicans could tell us about Mr. Bush. George Orwell would be so proud.

I'll believe Foyt changed from jersey "4" to jersey "25" but not that he's gone from shooting right to shooting left.

Here's another scenario: What if the Florida Seminoles say "aye" but the Oklahoma really did say "nay". Or if Chippewas in Wisconsin or Minnesota say "nay" but others say "aye"? Who do you listen to ("respect") and who do you not ("dis"?).
-
A construed right to exclusive self-portrayal by you for you about you will disallow and nullify my enumerated right of free expression. Ah, conundrum. And the "free expression" wins except in cases of the extreme or direct physical danger. "ScottM" addressed the "extreme" already.

For example: Capital One credit cards. The pillaging hoard of what looks to be Huns and Goths and Vandals. The University of Idaho Vandals. Don't say all the Vandals are gone. There were a Germanic tribe. Who knows where the bloodline is today. PS - The UND "Pillaging Hoard" has a nice ring to it.
