  1. I didn't assume. I asked a question. Actually, I asked two questions.
  2. Got this in the old email inbox today:
  3. I'm sure Rob finds that frustrating. I'd like final decision made too. The rest of the concern can be dealt with with that sentence above. The only Athletic Department administrator on the committee this time is Buning himself. (The rest are coaches.) It's not like Rob got shunned for some other AAD to sit on the committee. And like that sentence says ....
  4. This bugs me because there's a strong sense of personal spite in what I read there. Like I said before, you never know who is reading here. We have Schepp's bio (link before). Here's Rob Bollinger's. I'm sure BSU read it before approaching him. http://www.UND.edu/news/NEW_SCRIPTS/newsrelease.jsp?id=1603 The casual observer might say Schepp has better credentials to be teaching a sport finance class. I believe it was John Wooden who once said that you don't build anything up by tearing something else down.
  5. Did his assumptions include only 5223 showing up (lowest Alerus Center attendance for a UND FB game ever) to a game? It's alwasy pretty easy to pick people apart in retrospect. And you never know who is reading here. ("jimdahl" can say thank you to me for that later.)
  6. Of course I agree with this sentiment. I have to; look what I said in the other thread:
  7. More on Portland State's transition to DI: http://www.in-forum.com/articles/index.cfm...&section=Sports
  8. Bad word choice. They could make another $300k if they sold those seats to other fans (and that sounds low to me almost). That roughly matches the projected FY 04 budget numbers I have. Back then mens hockey tickets were about 40% of the budget and Fighting Sioux Club dues were another 25%. UNH's enrollment isn't that much bigger than UND's. (14300 v. 13000). UND now --> $900k/13000 = ~$70 per student. UNH now --> $6 MM/14300 = ~$420 per student. UND at UNH levels --> $6MM/13000 = ~$460 per student, a mere $400 more per year. Who's up for seven times today's student fees? Look what you'd get! That'd solve the standing problem. What do you want? What are you willing to pay? Season ticket holders have to make those same decisions. (Do they want lower bowl? Can they afford it?)
  9. I've dealt with enough reporters to know they do misunderstand things and do make mistakes. ("Sudo"-reporters never have these issues, right PCM? ) What's the issue here? We have UND's numbers. That's what matters, what is reported by the school, not what your eyes or other folks may report. (We've learned this many times from fans of various other programs.) 6 regular season games: 10126 average (and a really horrible turnout v. UMD at 5223).
  10. I never saw a purple cow, I never hope to see one; But I can tell you, anyhow, I'd rather see than be one. -- Gelett Burgess
  11. A lot of Bucky's success this year is "system". Losing Elliot might mean that they may go through a stretch where their winning percentage may dip as low as (gasp!) 0.750.
  12. I agree: - don't stand just to stand, especially in someone else's view - don't run the "R"-rated mouth - public drunkeness is against the law (ask Ron White, he was thrown out of a bar in New York City ) Seems simple to me.
  13. I saw a well-spoken young lady interviewed by KVLY TV-11 last night. (KFGO ran the audio during the morning news also.) She gave her view well, but was in error on a key point: The students of my generation (The Hrkac Circus era), and those before us, did not stand for the entire game, even when we had the entire east half of the old Engelstad Arena. As to the POV of "Hollywood": I'm a UND alumnus. I paid my tuition. I have my degrees. (Yes, plural.) I also have my North Dakota tax forms on the desk at home now too. And my bill for my season hockey tickets is in the receipt drawer as is my receipt for a donation to the UND Alumni Association and Foundation this year. UND is an enterprise that we all work together to make work: students, alumni, taxpayers, and friends and other contributors. You'd be outraged if I dared to say UND wouldn't be without me, yet you dare claim it. As far as the alcohol consumption: Public drunkeness is against the law in ND. (Note the period.) I don't care who you are. When it came to language, Buning said he'd like language like in church; but he also said something about not being that naive. (Whew! ) And this "stay home concept" hits on a a key point: One side says stay home in your living room if you want to watch the game. However, the other side believes that the student section is their living room at home and that they can do whatever they want; however, it's not their living room. What you do in your living room at home is your business. When you are in public, as in a public building on a university campus, the rules of public courtesy come into play. Want a simple example: Try standing up in front of folks in a movie theatre, even watching "Miracle" or "Rocky".
  14. First, why bring up Schepp? Second, he seems to have the background to teach that course (except for that NDSU degree thing ). http://www.fightingsioux.com/sports/mhocke...?PLAYER_ID=3310

  17. ... protesting the University of Idaho and it's "Vandals" moniker. Van-dal (noun): 2. A member of a Germanic people that overran Gaul, Spain, and northern Africa in the fourth and fifth centuries A.D. and sacked Rome in 455. (Definition from http://www.answers.com/topic/vandal ) You're a mascot and should be offended. Here's a history of your people. You'll be able to protest locally in Fargo as NDSU plays Idaho in hoop this season.
  18. The Irish were as oppressed as any group when they were new immigrants to this country. Yet, there it is in South Bend, IN: Notre Dame's Fighting Irish.
  19. Your answer is in a quote of Dr. Phil Harmeson by Fargo Forum columnist Mike McFeely from fall of 2004:
  20. The phrase you're looking for is "goes ad hominem."
