  1. With this the NCAA shows again that although it talks a great "all about student-athletes" game it's really all about one and only one thing: The Benjamins.
  2. They'd better leave the "allowed in-state" rule in place. If not, UND's recent moves to bring sports camps to Spirit Lake Reservation (90 miles) at Devils Lake, ND, would be a violation of NCAA rules. Then again, Spirit Lake is a "separate nation". Does the rule cover "international camps".
  3. Where's the poster called "BringDeanBack" when ya need 'em?
  4. Let's play "Logic 101": The NCAA policy is against American Indian related monikers, logos, and mascots. How would changing the moniker, but not the logo(!), solve anything? Even that small logical process thought, alone, proves that this "rumor" was hokum. Plus, they haven't come to me yet for my "Cavalry" logo design.
  5. Yup, Erik Schmidt (sp) wore 40 and Digger was a R/S in 2001 (and played 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005).
  6. Oh no. Dave Kolpack and the Forum Sport Editorial Staff set Lennon's roster. The real question is: Are they of the calibre to make immediate impact ala Weston Dressler or Jim Kleinsasser? Those are the last two to not redshirt at UND (save for maybe a long-snapper I'm forgetting). If yes, they'll play. If no, they'll redshirt, get bigger, and play in fall 2008.
  7. Looks like the Jacks are getting a lesson from the Cos ... "I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody." -- William Henry "Bill" Cosby, Jr., Ph.D.
  8. Dennis Miller on The O'Reilly Factor last night (paraphrased): The discussion of racism in this country is no longer about the color of skin, but the thinness of it.
  9. Excuse me, but exactly which? The most active organization on this issue I see is the polar opposite of "conservative".
  10. That OT was insane! Each team won it at least twice in OT if not for those goalies.
  11. You'd think that'd be the case if the justification was 'academics' based. If the justification for "five years" is something else, say 'business decision', they probably would not waive it. They don't waive it. You decide.
  12. You wouldn't be saying some student-athletes are 'better' or deserve more protection than others, would you? It should take, at worst, two years to certify your athletes are to the new standard. Five years is a business, not an academic or student-athlete based, decision. (I'm not arguing with you. I'm arguing against the current procedure.)
  13. This is just getting more strange. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?i...e=NCAAHeadlines
  14. 2007-08 - exploratory year (1 of 5) 2008-09 - 2 of 5 2009-10 - 3 of 5 2010-11 - 4 of 5 2011-12 - 5 of 5 2012-13 - playoff eligible PS - This system is good for student-athletes because the NCAA is all about student-athletes.
  15. Choose your answer: A verbal commitment is i. as good as the word of the person who made it ii. worth exactly the same as the paper it's written down on when made* iii. as good as a verbal real estate deal. * think about this one a little, because it's first made verbally
  16. How does the DS editorial reconcile with ... NOISE ORDINANCE: Students fight City Hall today (Face it, the 'noise' ordinance is a loud party ordinance.)
  17. I admitted earlier in this thread to getting an MIP in my youth. I hereby challenge the editorial staff of the Dakota Student to step up and, for the record, tell us if any of them, and specifically whom, have ever consumed alcohol or been in a bar as a minor. Heal thy self oh DS editorial board.
  18. But did you stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night?
  19. I've been told (by someone who should know) is that the initial plan* is to jump to 57 FB scholarships right away. The "57" is 90% of 63 which startes the DI-A counter clock --> You have to average 90% of max for three years to count as a DI game if you play a DI-A. Dig deep enough into UND's DI report and you can see it's in there, but you really have to scrub through the numbers. * The corresponding womens scholarships to stay in Title IX complaince are also in that same plan.
  20. People, people, people, we have a one game schedule right now: Friday, February 9, versus Minnesota State - Mankato. That is all.
  21. Gee, would it be a good idea for me to post a picture of the dashboard of my car with the tach hangin' over 4000 rpm and the speedometer reading about 120 mph when you can see from the picture that I'm on an interstate highway? Was I an angel? No. Did I pick up an MIP in my youth? Yes. Was I smart enough to not flaunt my questionable behavior to the whole world? Yes. The internet is the whole world. Assume everyone is watching, because they will, and normally just when you don't want them to.
  22. The bolded portion is the strawman consistently trotted out. The italicized portion is what some folks don't want to talk about. As far as Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa, read the Holmes quote in my signature. Homes to intellectualism and freedom of the mind are they indeed. Put another way: Those schools can't handle any thought outside of their little box. Feel sorry for them, and the students who are being indoctrinated there.
  23. Is that "Jeopardy" theme music in the background?
  24. Again, if I believe everything since the last compilation .... Brock Bellmore DL West Fargo, ND Dan Hendrickson LB Minot, ND Drew Daggett WR Frazee, MN Chris Anderson WR Duluth, MN Josh Murray RB Pepin, WI Brent Goska QB/DB Wisconsin Rapids, WI Code Rose QB Elmwood, WI Kris Ankenbauer DB Plano, TX Tru Nguyen LB Burnsville, MN Catlin Solum RB Fargo, ND John Carruth WR Eden Prairie, MN Brandon Quesenberry OL Billings, MT Mike Ebanks DL Hibbing CommColl Matt Simmons OL Racine Park, WI Chris Schann DE Chandler, AZ Deryk Van Zee WR Billings, MT Mitch Goertz LB Everest(?), WI Mark Kubacki LB Stillwater, MN Brad Kelly, LB Coon Rapids, MN Troy Bryant, DB Menomime(sp), WI Nick Bylin, OL Adams, ND Domique Hawkins, DB Minneapolis, MN Mitch Kudrna, DB Dickinson, ND And updating this: In 2006 the signees brief listed 3 specialists, 3 skills, and 13 heavy recruits. In 2005 the signees brief listed 2 specialists, 6 skills, and 17 heavy recruits. In 2004 the signees brief listed 1 specialists, 12 skills, and 8 heavy recruits. In 2007 the verbals so far seem to be 2 specialists, 10 skills, and 11 heavy recruits. * specialists: QB, P, K skills: RB, WR, TE, DB heavy: OL, DL, LB
  25. With UND ties on one sideline, and a former NDSU coach on the other, you just knew how this one would turn out.
