    Coal and nuke plants are best run (most efficient) when set at a level and left there, normally it's full power. On days when there's sun or wind (renewables actually on-line and producing) Xcel's Red Wing (Prairie Island) is at 100% but no one needs the energy so they've been cracking water to make hydrogen on those kinds of days. https://www.ans.org/news/article-4346/hydrogen-production-coming-to-prairie-island/
