  1. Ya-know, the best part of this will be that it's a self-inflicted wound: On the tribes, By the tribes. The tribal governments? They're exposing what kind of neighbors they really are. Neighbors deal with neighbors in kind. (Remember that at the next Legislative session.) Leigh Jeanotte and that cadre? They're kicking their only soapbox out from under themselves. Can you say "one trick pony" (and it just came up lame). Good luck, Leigh, jumping ahead of any other department on President Kupchella's or Kelley's (or any future) schedule to voice your issues. You'll just be "next in line" just like everyone else. And the rest of us get to sit back, smirk, and say, "You wanted 'equal.' It's not our fault it's the opposite direction from what you thought it was."
  2. Ralph Engelstad was born in 1930. WWII ran from 1939 to 1945. A poor (at the time) 9 to 15 years old kid from Thief River Falls, MN, was tell me what again ....

That double standard bothers me (and I'm sure it bothers TRIOUXPER also).

Mussman cut him loose and he's got a long list to deal with down at the court house. T'ain't much more to say. The question that should be asked is: Why was none of this in the public eye before it got to this?
  5. Mercury - a Ford with chrome Lincoln - a Mercury with a hood ornament and $20k higher asking price But I don't believe Mercury was ever President.
  6. Really? Show me where the NDHSAA sponsors softball: http://www.ndhsaa.com/athletics/index.htm (Hint: You can't because ND schools play it as a club, non-NDHSAA, sport.)
  7. Over-arching Themes (everything on his schedule should point to either) Costs/Finances Conference Immediate Actions Staffing Transition Plan Facilties Plan Athletics Endowment and an obligatory ... Add mens lacrosse <-- That was just for you, Geaux.
  8. It sure is. But comes the rub: I choose to see the Vandal tribal name used as anything other than the root word of "vandalism" as a positive, even if it's a moniker of a sports team. I choose to not be offended by Idaho's Vandals.
  9. Seems fair, so .... Go Vandals! (See, it's being done onto me.)
  10. At risk of repeating myself ... See posts 17, 18, and 21 in the link. It's clear that 2007-08 should not count as a year of competition for Forney. By my understanding of the rule book, he'd be coming back this fall as a sophomore.
  11. Handcuff the defense? No. But they are being given too many liberties in the WCHA. My two simplest examples (from the NCAA 2006-2008 rulebook): Holding SECTION 24. A player shall not hold or grab an opponent in any manner (stick, hand, etc.). PENALTY
  12. Dave, 20 years ago, 1988, the average was 8.58 goals scored (total) per game. That'd be 17 total goals to see in a weekend. And that is about the average throughout the 1980s. Now, in 2008, the average is 5.01 total goals scored per WCHA game. Go to a weekend series and you'll see 10 total goals. 1988: Average WCHA weekend was 5-4, 5-3 2008: Average WCHA game is 3-2, 3-2 Better one? In 1987 Bob Joyce scored 52 goals (all games). In 2006 Anchorage as a team in WCHA play scored 51 goals. I don't hate goalies but I do hate soccer; I'd like to see the other players allowed to showcase their talents and move us away from soccer scoring. And like dead_rabbit said, you aren't going to grab new fans with "exciting" one-nil scores.
  13. It's more than a possibility. Who in the league really wants to open it up? Minnesota. SCSU. CC. UND. Denver's talking a nice game right now but look what they reverted to at the end of the season. Bruce loves to chat up "parity" and how the league is so even top to bottom. It gets the lower tier rinks full for home games. He gets to brag up 1.5 million fans attended WCHA games. However, how happy was McLeod and the league (who gets the playoff revenues) when Kohl and Mariucci were idle during the first round?
  14. More from Florida. Verbals http://www.grandforksherald.com/articles/index.cfm?id=75528 Calling the rule book http://www.grandforksherald.com/articles/index.cfm?id=75533 McLeod "senses a movement toward NHL-style" but his words up to this point say he doesn't see a problem with the current officiating. He was bragging up the WCHA as UND was being skated past in Denver. Best line overheard in Denver: "The WCHA plays on a 10-foot wide oval and other leagues play down the middle of a full sheet."
  15. WCHA TV? http://www.startribune.com/sports/gophers/18550594.html Early departures for the pro ranks. http://www.startribune.com/sports/gophers/18551049.html But was there anything about bringing WCHA officiating into alignment with the NHL standards?
  16. Davidson was brought in knowing he was a project. I don't see the coaches moving away from that stance any time soon. Forney hasn't seen a healthy season yet. And I'll note again that Hakstol played him in Game 17 of the 35 game schedule and he only played 3 games this season (see posts 18 and 21 here). Hak spoke of Forney in "top six forward" terms in the fall of 2007. I just want to see a healthy Michael Forney for more than two games in a row before rushing to conclusions. Like I said elsewhere, the numbers of forwards lined up to come between now and September 2009 (yes, 9) matches the number to run out of eligibility plus one (VV) so the assumption in there is Davidson and Forney are on the roster. My questions are all "who and when". That's controlled by departures. What does all that tell me? There is no off-season for Dave Hakstol.
  17. Truer words never spoken. Interesting datapoints along the way: NDSU has adopted the model of buying air time and doing their own production and sales (be it radio or TV). If you can't get folks to say enough nice things about you on your own merits I guess you buy the time and hire someone to fill it with such things. It's good to know Phil Hansen has gainful employment. Leighton's had the problem of not having a "big stick" (a low frequency mid-power or plain-old 50 kW monster) in the Fargo area in the past. That really hasn't changed. Or has it .... Hennen is already claiming "AM 1100 will be the new home for North Dakota's original radio talk show...news, opinion, passion will be heard throughout all of North Dakota and Minnesota on AM 1100 and on a brand new regional radio network coming soon to a radio near you." Hennen's AM 1100 is a 50 kW station licensed in Dilworth, MN with studios in Fargo. Is this Leighton's solution, or ... If Hennen is working on a new regional network, is SMAHH Communications (his new group) going to bid on UND Athletics? Then there's Radio Fargo-Moorhead with KFGO and 50 kW "The Fan" 740. Would they sell their time to NDSU to stick it to WDAY-AM? WDAY-AM is part of Forum Communications, which owns The Forum, The GF Herald, WDAY-TV, and WDAZ-TV. WDAY-AM could, if Radio FM and SMAHH both push, be left on the outside. Then again, WDAZ is the orginal and remains the production host of Fighting Sioux Sports Network (television). If ForumComm was odd-man out in the radio game would they refocus on FSSN? Like the man said,
  18. Then riddle me this: Oklahoma Seminole tribe members: no. Florida Seminole tribe members: yes. FSU: OK Five, yes 5, Chippewa bands in Michigan and yet Central Michigan has tribal approval from only one, yes 1, (the closest geographically) of them. The other four are on record as no. CMU: OK Two Sioux bands in ND (and should it not be 3 considering the Sisseton-Wahpeton have a casino on I-29 at the ND/SD border). Yet UND needs approval from both, not just the nearest one like CMU. Consistency not. It seems WCHA referee Don Adam is in charge. (Some of you will get that reference. )
  19. Exactly. Who's going, who's coming, led me to do some pondering .... As things stand now, there are really only four open roster slots, and it looks to me like they are accounted for: Lamoureux --> Eidsness Bina --> Blood Kaip --> Hextall Radke --> Lamoureux (he's age 20+ this fall) So, where do Gregoire, Bruneteau, Toews, and Cichy find playing time? Mario Lamoureux is eligible to play another USHL season and Gregoire could be the guy, but again, where are the other slots?
  20. I'll be sure to send your "stick it to the man" sentiment to my legislators as well. If "Go Sioux!" is wrong, and really means "Sitting Bull ____s" as some would try to tell you ... quite simply the answer is obvious: "Go Cavalry!" Thus, "Custer ____s!" <-- fourwindsboy should love that! (Don't blame me. It's someone else's "logic" strung to it's logical extension.)
  21. Think you don't like that? Imagine the horrors of being of German ancestry and hearing the Idaho Vandals moniker. Those are my fellow Germanic tribesmen and no one asked me for permission. I'm nearly as mad as those folks in South Bend, IN, ... you know, the Fightin' Irish.
  22. Sioux-cia (that dirty girl) explained the problem with the inconsistency. Me? I'll point out the moniker at http://www.yu.edu/athletics Go Maccabees!
  23. Wrong. First, the "workplace" is by definition an NCAA championship event, not a campus, or so sayeth the NCAA. Next, certain members of the (albeit Oklahoma) Seminole Nation declared an issue with FSU. By your own words: We had that one person from the Seminole Nation just as we have that one from the Sioux Nation. We have one person with a problem with it in the "workplace". Yet, FSU got off.
  24. "We've moved on." Oh yeah, sure you have .... that's why that video is about SDSU. And they had to rip the notion off! Just another case of "chucklehead Bison fans who believe that the idea of thinking for oneself is vastly overrated."
